Stomata are randomly distributed throughout the surface of the root zones which possess mature vascular tissues, i.e. from the zone of root hairs to the transition zone. Stomatal orientation does not follow that of the root epidermal cells whilst their distribution does not seem to form a regular pattern. © 1987 Annals of Botany Company.</style></abstract><issue><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">3</style></issue><notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Cited By :7Export Date: 7 February 2017CODEN: ANBOACorrespondence Address: Christodoulakis, N.S.; Institute of General Botany, University of Athens, Greece 157 84, GreeceReferences: Esau, K., (1965) Plant Anatomy, p. 767. , 2nd edn, Wiley, New York;Fahn, A., (1974) Plant Anatomy, p. 611. , 2nd edn, Pergamon Press, Oxford;
