I studied at the Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (1983-1989) and then did post doctoral research in Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University USA (1990-1991) and the University of Minnesota USA (1991-1992). In 1993 I received my doctorate degree from the Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. I completed my residency in Psychiatry at the Psychiatry Department of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens at Eginition Hospital (1996-1999).
I was a research scientist at the University Mental Health Research Institute (1999-2001) and a research fellow at the Neurology and Psychiatry Department at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Medical School at Eginition Hospital (2001-2004). In 2004 I was appointed Lecturer of Psychiatry, in 2010 Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, in 2014 Associate Professor of Psychiatry and in 2019 Full Professor at at the Psychiatry Department of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, Medical School at Eginition Hospital.
From 2012 I direct the Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Sensorimotor Control at the University Mental Health, Neurosciences and Precision Medicine Research Institute "COSTAS STEFANIS". The laboratory is devoted in the study of fundamental sensorimotor and cognitive processes in healthy humans and patients with psychiatric disorders of the psychotic spectrum using psychophysical, electrophysiological and functional imaging methods.
From 2020 I am appointed as the chairman of the 2nd Psychiatry Department of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens located in "ATTIKON" University General Hopsital which is a inpatient, outpatient and liasson service for adult and child psychiatry providing clinical service as well as educational activities at all levels (undergraduate and post graduate) and research activities in the field of psychiatry.
