Angeliki Papoutsa is a geologist specializing in Ore Deposit Geology, Mineralogy and Geochemistry. Since 2023, she has served as Laboratory and Teaching Staff, and she is currently Assistant Professor of Economic Geology at the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
She holds a PhD in Earth Sciences from Dalhousie University, Canada (2015), an MSc in Applied Science from Saint Mary’s University, Canada (2012), and a BSc in Geology from the University of Patras, Greece (2009). In 2012, she received the Governor General’s Gold Medal of Canada for the best graduate thesis completed at Saint Mary’s University.
Her research focuses on the processes controlling the concentration, mobilization and deposition of metals in magmatic and hydrothermal systems. Her doctoral and early research investigated the petrological evolution of A-type granitic systems in Nova Scotia, Canada, with particular emphasis on rare earth elements and rare-metal mineralization. Her subsequent work has expanded to critical-metal enrichment in Greek magmatic and hydrothermal systems and, more recently, to seafloor hydrothermal mineralization in the Aegean volcanic arc, including Sb-As-rich polymetallic sulfide systems at Kolumbo submarine volcano.
Her research combines petrography, mineral chemistry and advanced analytical techniques, including SEM-EDS, electron-probe microanalysis (EPMA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy.
She has extensive laboratory and teaching experience in ore geology, mineral exploration, analytical methods, mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry, and supervises undergraduate research projects in economic geology, and geochemistry.
