COMANITY

The main objective of COMANITY is to train youth workers and volunteers for a new role in youth work – the ‘Community Animateur(CA).

The CA’s role is to bridge the existing gap between young people on the margins and ‘mainstream’ institutions by acting as a “Social Mediator”. Community Animateurs come from the community, and are trusted by their peer group. They act as a point of mediation between young people who don’t trust ‘the system’ and the system itself.

COMANITY was developed in a frame of European project (2017-2019) led by a consortium of nine organisations, from the UK, Greece, Belgium, Spain and Italy, active in social inclusion, youth work, research and active citizenship. From 2020, other organisations interested in the programme can follow the guidelines of a Toolkit and/or contact the project partners if they are interested in knowing more about how to replicate the programme in their context.
