Christos Pitelis is Professor of Economics at the University of Athens and Fellow in Economics at Queens’ College University of Cambridge. Christos has published over a hundred articles in books and scholarly journals, such as Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies and Organization Studies. He has served as a chairperson, panelist, organiser, keynote speaker and paper presenter in over a hundred conferences worldwide. He is Editor of the Cambridge Journal of Economics, the Collected Papers of Edith Penrose, and on the editorial boards of, among others, Organization Science, Organization Studies and Management International Review, and has served as Guest Editor for leading journals, on the theory of the firm, globalisation, international business, regulation, global governance and global finance.
Dr Pitelis has researched, consulted and co-ordinated projects for governments, the European Commission, the United Nations, USAID, the Commonwealth Secretariat and the private sector. He currently is a member of the FESSUD project, an international consortium of academics working on 'Financialisation, Economy, Society and Sustainable Development' (funded by the European Commission within its Seventh Framework Programme).
Previous appointments
Dr Pitelis has taught at the Universities of Warwick, Nottingham and St Andrews and Cambridge. He has been advisor to the Greek Minister of Industry and the Ministry of Development, coordinating "The Future of Greek Industry" project, which led to the "Consensus-based Industrial Strategy" for the country and its cluster policy. He also served, among others, as President of the Hellenic Organisation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, international consultant for the EC Netwin project on European clusters, Partner in the EU-funded project "Dynamic Regions in a Knowledge-driven Global Economy: Lessons and Policy Implications for the EU" (DYNREG), and co-ordinator and partner in three Action for Co-operation in Economics (ACE) programmes of the European Commission.
He has consulted extensively for international organisations (UN, USAID, EC), national governments (Albania, Barbados, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Estonia, Ethiopia, Lithuania, Romania, Taiwan), The Commonwealth Secretariat, non-governmental organisations, business innovation centres, business associations, trade unions, and private companies such as Ernst & Young, Deloitte and Rolls Royce. He has also participated in high-level fora with leaders of companies such as WPP, Diageo, Access Industries, Kroll, Klesch & Co., A.T. Kearney and Baring Vostok. He has wide MBA and executive teaching experience.
Christos has held visiting appointments at the University of California Berkeley, Copenhagen Business School, MIT, China-Europe Management Institute, University of Utrecht, University of St Petersburg and University of Technology Sydney.
