Bio

Dimitrios P. Balios is Assistant Professor of Financial Accounting at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Economics. He received his BSc, MsC and Phd degree from the same University in 1999, 2001 and 2006 respectively. Dr. Balios possesses an extensive academic and professional experience. He has worked as a research assistant in many academic projects of the National and Kapodistrian University and University of Piraeus and has worked as head of the Departments of Research in two Athens Exchange Securities Market Members. He has taught at the University of Piraeus (Department of Economics) at undergraduate courses and at the Open University of Cyprus, the Hellenic Open University, the National Technical University and the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus at postgraduate courses. He has lectured extensively at a postgraduate and undergraduate level on Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Cost Accounting, and Special Topics in Financial Accounting and Finance. Moreover, he has taught in numerous executive educational programs organized by various organizations (e.g. Alpha Bank, Piraeus Bank, Power Public Corporation, Alfa – Beta Vassilopoulos S.A., etc.). His research interests revolve around the areas of International Financial Reporting Standards, International Public Sector’s Accounting Standards, cost accounting, the value relevance of accounting numbers, SMEs and delisting.
Dr. Balios is a current member of the Governing Committees at the UoA MBA (http://www.mba.econ.uoa.gr/) and at the Laboratories of 1. Accounting and 2. Banking (http://www.executive-programs.econ.uoa.gr/).
