Dina Tiniakos, MD PhD FRCPath

Dina Tiniakos is Professor of Pathology & Director, Dept of Pathology, Aretaieion Hospital, Medical School, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUoA), Greece and Visiting Professor at the Translational and Clinical Research Institute, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University, UK. She is Past President of the European Society of Pathology (ESP) and past Chair, Equality & Diversity Taskforce, United European Gastroenterology (2020-2023). She currently serves as Chair, ESP Advisory Board (2023-2025).

Dina’s main research interests are fatty and autoimmune liver disease and hepatocarcinogenesis. She is co-leading European and international research consortia on liver pathology, including the LITMUS and SALVE Histopathology Group on steatoticliver disease and the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Pathology Group and is central pathologist in major international clinical trials for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis. She is  external assessor for international research institutes, academic departments of pathology and grant awarding bodies. Dina is an invited member of the prestigious International Liver Study Group “Gnomes” and the Laennec Liver Pathology Society.

Dina has authored/co-authored  ~220 peer-reviewed scientific articles and chapters in textbooks of liver pathology (H index 64, ~17,000 citations. She is Associate Editor of “Histopathology” and “Journal of Hepatology” (2025-2029) and Editorial Board member of “Annals of Gastroenterology”.
