Dimitrios A. Vrachatis (MD, MSc, PhD, FESC) is Assistant Profesor of Biomedical Engineering at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). 

Since 2026 he serves as Predident Elect of the Digital Cardiology Working Group of the Hellenic Society of Cardiology.

He holds a PhD (2014) from the NKUA. His PhD research was conducted in the Biomedical Engineering Unit of the 1st University Department of Cardiology, with focus in transcatheter aortic valve implantation. He also holds an MSc in Health Unit Administration from Hellenic Open University, Patras, Greece. He has been elected Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.

He is an interventional cardiologist - electrophysiologist. He graduated Medical School from the NKUA where he had been admitted 3rd in rank after nationwide examinations. He followed the cardiology residence program in Greek National Health System; in General Hospital of Athens “G. Gennimatas”. Beyond Greek board certification as a specialist in cardiology in Greece, he successfully completed the European Exam of Cardiology held by the European Society of Cardiology Following his core training, he pursued a clinical research fellowship in Humanitas Clinical and Research Center IRCCS (Milan, Italy) supported by a scholarship by Hellenic Society of Cardiology.

He has been an author in highly cited scientific international journals (h-index 20 | 2026). He has served as peer-reviewer in international journals and has participated as Guest Editor of Special Issues. He has also served as an editorial board member in international journals, among which “European Heart Journal – Case Reports”.

He has authored a series of with Greek and International book chapters. He has also participated in the review process of international research proposals. He has participated with presentation of more than 200 abstracts in Greek and International medical congresses. He has activelly participated in the design and conduction of Randomized Controlled Trials.
