Dr Evangelos Liberopoulos is an Internist-Lipidologist-Diabetologist. He graduated from the University of Ioannina Medical School, Greece, in 1996. He trained as an Internist at the University Hospital of Ioannina, Greece (board qualification 2004). He acquired his doctoral degree by the University of Ioannina Medical School, Greece in 2004. He specialized in lipid disorders and cardiovascular disease prevention at the Royal Free Hospital, UCL, London, UK, and in diabetes at the Diabetology Centre of ‘Laikon’ General Hospitalof Athens (board qualification 2020). He has been nominated as Fellow of the American Society of Angiology (US), Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (UK) and Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Scientists (US). He has served as a consultant at the 2nd Internal Medicine Clinic of the University Hospital of Ioannina (2006-2007), and at the School of Medicine, University of Ioannina, up to the degree of Associate Professor of Medicine (2007-2021).

He currently serves as a Professor of Medicine-Metabolic Diseases, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and 1st Propedeutic Department of Medicine, General Hospital of Athens ‘Laiko’. His main academic and clinical interests include dyslipidemia, diabetes, obesity, hypertension as well as acid-base and electrolyte abnormalities. He has gained 29 awards for his research activities. He has published 263 papers in international peer-reviewed journals with 9.157 citations and an H factor of 52 on Google Scholar (18 Dec 2021). He is a member of 21 scientific societies. He is also a member of the writing committee for guidelines issued by the Hellenic Diabetes Association and the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society. He has given over 500 talks in national and international meetings on topics related to lipids, diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention. He has acted as a referee for 81 journals and is an Associate Editor for 2 journals and a member of the Editorial Board of 3 other journals. He has co-organized several Hellenic congresses and European courses. He has participated as primary investigator or sub-investigator in many international studies and was the National Coordinator for the ODYSSEY-OUTCOMES study. He is currently the National Leader for the HELLAS-FH registry and member of the Steering Committee of Familial Hypercholesterolemia Studies Collaboration (FHSC).
Dr Liberopoulos is currently serving as President of the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society (HAS).
