The course deals with the archaeological record from the cemeteries of the Early and Middle Bronze Age Aegean: tomb architecture, spatial organization of cemeteries, mortuary practices, burial offerings, funerary rituals and ritual equipment. We critically examine theoretical schemes and methods of approach that have been implemented for the intepretation of the relevant evidence. We also discuss the potential and limitations in the use of moruary data to reconstruct mortuary beliefs, demography and social organization of the Aegean communities in the 3rd and early 2nd millenium B.C.
