I am Lecturer of Micropaleontology-Environmental Micropaleontology in Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment of the University of Athens, where I also received my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. My primary research activity is in the areas of Marine Micropaleontology. I have used both coccolithophores and benthic foraminifera as research organisms and my interests are focused on their life cycles, taxonomy, distribution and biodiversity in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, as well as on their application in environmental and earth science problems. Currently, I am working on applications of microfossils of the Aegean Sea in the context of environmental monitoring of marine ecosystems.
I have participated in several national and international research projects (PENED, Pythagoras, MedEcos/MarinERA, PERSEUS/FP7). I have authored two books and more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Since 2012, when I was appointed lecturer in Faculty of Geology & Geoenvironment of the University of Athens, I teach Micropaleontology and general earth and marine sciences at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
