Nikolaos (Nikos) Papadopoulos is Professor of Allergy & Pediatric Allergy and Head of the Allergy Department at the 2nd Pediatric Clinic, University of Athens. He also holds Honorary Professorships at the University of Manchester and OPRI, Singapore. His research focuses on the role of microbes in allergic inflammation, interactions of the immune system with the environment and the use of real-world evidence to advance clinical practice. He has made significant contributions to pediatric asthma, respiratory virology, and food allergies.
He has supervised over 20 PhDs, trained numerous doctors and researchers, and organized more than 100 national and international educational events. A sought-after speaker, he delivers over 30 invited lectures annually. For over two decades, he has led and participated in high-impact EU research projects, including GA2LEN, PreDicta, CURE, and SynAir-G. He is Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Allergy and a recipient of multiple international awards.
He has served as EAACI President (2013-2015), REG President (2018-2020), and is currently a Board Member of the World Allergy Organization.
With over 1000 publications, >80,000 citations, an h-index of 125 and an i10-index of ~570 (Google scholar), he is among the top in his field globally. He ranks number 5 in the world for ‘common cold’ (Expertscape), within 1% of scientists worldwide (ResearchGate , Loop), a Top Scholar according to ScholarGPS (0.39% of overall scientists), and within the top 10 of medical scientists (AD Scientific Index) or immunology (Research.com) in Greece.
His current work explores the respiratory virome, particularly bacteriophages, in airway disease, interactions between chemical and biological pollution in the air and their effects on health, and innovative nutritional treatments for allergies. He also leads PeARL (Pediatric Asthma in Real-Life), a global think tank dedicated to optimizing pediatric asthma management.
