Performance and Digital Technologies

In this course we investigate the questions, theoretical and methodological, that anthropology poses to the wide and interdisciplinary field of digital performing arts (e.g. music, theatre, performance art, dance). More specifically, through presentating and analysing various examples, we discuss definitions of digital performing arts, what do they have in common and how do they differ from other (western and non western) artistic traditions, what is the relationship between humans and (digital) technologies, and how anthropological/ethnographic research may shed light to the variety of the ways in which participants in digital performances experience and conceptualize time, space and the body.
