Panagiotis Kountouris (PhD)

Panagiotis Kountouris is Associate Professor in Volleyball Training and teaches the modules "Volleyball" (1984 to date) and "Advanced level Volleyball» (2010 to date) at the degree of undergraduate studies. Since 2006 he has also been teaching the module of "Special issues of Team Games" in the program of Postgraduate studies "Physical Education and Sports" at the School of Physical Education & Sport Science (www.phed.uoa.gr) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (www.uoa.gr).

Dr. Kountouris received his PhD degree in Volleyball from the School of Physical Education & Sport Science (2000) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. His studies also include BSc in Physical Education from the Athens Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Science and International Volleyball Coach Diploma from the International Volleyball Federation F.I.V.B. (1983). Areas of interest include motor learning, performance analysis, training, and new regulations in Volleyball. He has many publications and presentations in Greek and foreign journals and a number of citations (see Google Scholar).

He is also a supervisor of Postgraduate and Doctoral students, a member of the scientific committees of conferences, sport reviewer in Greek and foreign scientific journals, he has written and edited books and notes for Volleyball and drafted proposals for improvement and upgrading of the sport.

Furthermore, he worked as a physical education teacher in all education levels and taught volleyball in many seminars, schools for volleyball trainers and physical education teachers. As an athlete he was a member for two decades in Greek first division Volleyball teams, winning many championships and victories nationwide. As a coach he won major national and international distinctions with many teams, most important of which is winning the bronze medal in the first African Volleyball Cup matches with the national men team of Libya (1977) and the silver medal at the young women Balkan Championship with Greek National team (1993). In addition, he was associate head coach in the National women’s team of Greece (1992-1993) and technical advisor of Greek Volleyball Federation (1998).

A founding member of the Hellenic Volleyball Coach Federation, member of organizing committees of the Ministry of Education, Field of Play Supervisor at 28th Olympic Games and the 12th Paralympics Games of "Athens 2004" in the sport of Volleyball. He has received many honours from sporting clubs, organizations and associations for his contribution to sport and especially to Volleyball.
