Panos Sophoulis is a specialist in the History of Southeastern Europe, with a particular interest in the Balkans during the Middle Ages. He received his Doctoral Degree (D.Phil.) from Oxford University (2005). His academic interests cover a wide range of subjects in the field of medieval studies. His first monograph, Byzantium and Bulgaria, 775-831, published by Brill, has been awarded the 2013 John D. Bell Book Prize. He is the author of one other book (Banditry in the Medieval Balkans, 800-1500, Palgrave Macmillan 2020), and has edited several collections of studies focusing on the history and culture of Southeastern Europe.
