Petros Galanis is Assistant Professor of Research Methodology and Evidence Based Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is director of the Clinical Epidemiology Laboratory. He studied at the Faculty of Nursing of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and received his Master's of Public Health Degree and a PhD from the same University.
He teaches Research Methodology, Evidence Based Nursing, Epidemiology, Prevention and Biostatistics at the undergraduate level in the Faculty of Nursing of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. At the postgraduate level, he teaches Research Methodology, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Demography, and Clinical Decision Making in MSc programs of (a) the Faculty of Nursing of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, (b) the Faculty of Medicine of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, (c) the Faculty of Nursing of University of West Attica, (d) the Faculty of Midwifery of University of West Attica, (e) the Department of Economics of University of Piraeus, (f) the Faculty of Nursing of University of Thessaly, and (g) the Faculty of Medicine of University of Thessaly. He has supervised over 35 diploma theses of MSc students. He has been the main supervisor of five PhDs.
He has participated or continues to participate in numerous research projects funded by several sources, e.g. World Health Organization, Ministry of Health, etc. He has been or continues to be the principal investigator in nine research projects. His main academic interests include Research Methodology, Evidence Based Nursing, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics.
Petros Galanis has published over 450 papers in international academic peer-reviewed journals with more than 5,800 citations and an h-index of 41.
For the years 2020 and 2021, he ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists in his main discipline for citation impact. This ranking, considered the most prestigious worldwide, is based on the bibliometric information contained in the Scopus database and includes more than 180,000 researchers from the more than 8 million scientists considered to be active worldwide.
He is the author-coauthor of the following books in Greek: (i) Epidemiology I, (ii) Essays in Epidemiology, (iii) Textbook of Epidemiology, (iv) Clinical and Epidemiological Research, (v) Data analysis methodology in health sciences. Applications with IBM SPSS Statistics, (vi) Writing and publication papers in health sciences, and (vii) Research methodology in health sciences.
He has acted as a referee for 32 journals and is a Guest Editor for one journal and a member of the Editorial Board of six other journals. He is a member of 25 scientific societies. He has been awarded for his research papers in 19 congresses.
