Dr. Theodore Syriopoulos is Professor of Shipping Finance, at the Port Management & Shipping Dpt., School of Economics & Political Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He also holds adjunct visiting posts in international and domestic Schools, including Audencia Business School, Nantes, France; Newcastle University, UK; Shanghai Maritime University, China; Athens University of Economics and Business; University of Piraeus; International Hellenic University; University of Western Attica; and, Hellenic Open University, Greece, inter alia. For the last 20 years, Prof. Syriopoulos has served as Professor of Finance, Shipping, Trade and Transport Dpt., School of Business Studies, University of the Aegean.
Prior to joining the academia and for nearly two decades, Prof. Syriopoulos has held top executive management posts in banking, investment, asset management, corporate finance, and consulting business.
Prof. Syriopoulos publishes regularly in accredited international financial journals, as well as in edited volumes and books in topics of finance and shipping. Research fields of interest include applied corporate finance; global capital markets and portfolio management; mergers & acquisitions; financial derivatives and risk management; shipping finance and banking; corporate governance and social responsibility. Prof. Syriopoulos has gained extensive experience in research programs and executive education, as instructor, academic director and organizer of executive programs and distance-learning education seminars.
Prof. Syriopoulos is a member of international academic and professional bodies and associations including: European Finance Association; American Finance Association; European Financial Management Association; Multinational Finance Society; International Association of Maritime Economists; Hellenic Association of Maritime Economists; Hellenic Finance and Accounting Association; Hellenic Economic Chamber; Federation of Institutional Investors; Federation of European Stock Exchanges; International Money-Laundering Committee.
Prof. Syriopoulos holds a Ph.D. Diploma in Applied Economics (1990), University of Kent at Canterbury, UK; a M.A. Diploma in Development Economics (1987), University of Kent at Canterbury, UK; and a B.A. Diploma in Economics (1985), University of Piraeus, Greece.
