Short Bio

Victoria Magrioti studied Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 2003, she obtained her Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Violetta Constantinou at the Agricultural University of Athens. During her Ph.D. studies she joined the group of Dr. Robert Verger at the CNRS, Marseille for a few months where she studied assays for digestive lipase inhibition. She continued her postdoctoral studies in the group of Prof. George Kokotos at the University of Athens and in the group of Prof. Alexandros Makriyannis at the Center for Drug Discovery of Northeastern University in Boston. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, University of Athens. She has published 32 articles in peer-reviewed journals, presented 9 oral presentations in national and international conferences and she is co-inventor in 2 international patents. Her research mainly focuses on the design and development of novel inhibitors of lipolytic enzymes, such as human digestive lipases and phospholipases A2. She is also working on new synthetic methodologies for medicinally interesting compounds.
