Polychromo

POLYCHROMO is an online dictionary created with the aim of systematically collecting, recording and describing the expressions formed on the basis of colour terms in Modern Greek and their correlation with corresponding expressions in other languages.
The encoding and categorization of colours in the language and their conceptual implications (metaphorical uses, connotations) are at the centre of the research interest of almost all individual linguistic disciplines and approaches. Contemporary theoretical pursuits in the field of phraseology are increasingly oriented towards the interaction between cognitive, linguistic and cultural approaches. In this context, colour is examined as an element that reveals culturally dependent elements of knowledge.
POLYCHROMO offers a dynamic, open and collaborative environment for the encoding of lexicographic information. At this stage, the dictionary includes 450 entries (consolidated and semi-consolidated lexical synonyms, idioms, metaphors, metonymies), in 5 languages (Greek, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish) and in 8 colour fields (black, white, red, green, yellow, blue, grey and pink).
