Short CV

Pantelis C. Kostis is an Associate Professor of Economic Development at the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He teaches in postgraduate programmes of the Department of Economics and is an instructor in distance learning programmes at the same institution. He is the academic coordinator of the Erasmus+ Student Mobility, Erasmus+ Traineeship and Erasmus+ CIVIS Student Mobility programmes for the Department of Economics of NKUA. He also serves as President of the Board of the Faculty Association of the School of Economics and Political Sciences of NKUA and as a delegate to the Hellenic Federation of University Teachers' Associations (POSDEP) for 2024–2027. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Centre of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE). He is also a member of the Adjunct Teaching Staff of the Hellenic Open University, and he has previously taught as a Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Management Rohtak, India.

His research has been published in leading international journals, including the Journal of Comparative Economics, Economic Modelling, the Journal of Socio-Economics, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Technovation, the Journal of Business Research and Science, Technology and Society. He has authored numerous books on economic development and growth and on the European and Greek economies, published by Palgrave Macmillan, Springer, Edward Elgar, IGI Global and IntechOpen. For the academic year 2023–2024 he received NKUA's Research Excellence Award.

His research interests focus on economic development, and in particular on the role of institutions and cultural background in shaping economic development performance, quality of life, education, innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as on the design of economic policy for more resilient, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies, with particular emphasis on the Greek and European economies at the national and regional levels.

He is the Principal Investigator of the Horizon Europe research project "EDU-LAB: European youth in education and in transition to the labour market," funded by the European Union for the period 2025–2027. He has also served as a principal investigator and as a research team member in numerous other research projects.

He is the Editor of the Palgrave Macmillan book series "Palgrave Studies in the Future of the European Economies and Societies." He also serves as Senior Associate Editor of the Journal of the Knowledge Economy, the Journal of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the International Journal of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development, as Guest Editor of special issues, and as a member of the editorial boards of academic journals.

Ο Παντελής X. Κωστής είναι Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής Οικονομικής Ανάπτυξης στο Τμήμα Οικονομικών Επιστημών (TOE) του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών (ΕΚΠΑ). Εναι διδάσκων σε Μεταπτυχιακά Προγράμματα του ΤΟΕ του ΕΚΠΑ και εκπαιδευτής σε προγράμματα εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευσης στο ίδιο ίδρυμα. Είναι ο ακαδημαϊκός υπεύθυνος των προγραμμάτων Erasmus+ μετακίνηση φοιτητών, Erasmus+ πρακτική άσκηση και Erasmus+ CIVIS για το ΤΟΕ του ΕΚΠΑ. Επιπρόσθετα, διατελεί Πρόεδρος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Συλλόγου Διδασκόντων της Σχολής Οικονομικών και Πολιτικών Επιστημών του ΕΚΠΑ και είναι Σύνεδρος της Πανελλήνιας Ομοσπονδίας Συλλόγων Διδακτικού και Ερευνητικού Προσωπικού (ΠΟΣΔΕΠ) (2024-2027). Επιπλέον, αποτελεί μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Κέντρου Προγραμματισμού και Οικονομικών Ερευνών (ΚΕΠΕ). Είναι επίσης μέλος Συνεργαζόμενου Εκπαιδευτικού Προσωπικού στο Ελληνικό Ανοιχτό Πανεπιστήμιο, ενώ παλαιότερα, έχει διδάξει ως Επισκέπτης Καθηγητής στο Indian Institute of Management Rohtak στην Ινδία. 

Η έρευνά του έχει δημοσιευτεί σε διακεκριμένα διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του Journal of Comparative Economics, του Economic Modelling, του Journal of Socio-Economics, του Technological Forecasting and Social Change, του Technovation,του Journal of Business Research και του Science, Technology and Society. Είναι συγγραφέας πλήθους βιβλίων για την οικονομική ανάπτυξη και μεγέθυνση και την ευρωπαϊκή και την ελληνική οικονομία που έχουν εκδοθεί από τους διεθνείς εκδοτικούς οίκους Palgrave MacMillan, Springer, Edward Elgar, IGI Global και IntechOpen. Για το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2023-2024 έλαβε το τιμητικό βραβείο «Αριστείας στην Έρευνα» από το ΕΚΠΑ (ΑΔΑ: 98ΣΗ46ΨΖ2Ν-ΙΔ6).

Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζουν στην οικονομική ανάπτυξη και ειδικότερα στον ρόλο των θεσμών και του πολιτισμικού υποβάθρου στη διαμόρφωση των αναπτυξιακών επιδόσεων, στην ποιότητα ζωής, στην εκπαίδευση, στην καινοτομία και την επιχειρηματικότητα, καθώς και στον σχεδιασμό οικονομικής πολιτικής για πιο ανθεκτικές, συμπεριληπτικές και βιώσιμες οικονομίες και κοινωνίες, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στην ελληνική και την ευρωπαϊκή οικονομία σε εθνικό και περιφερειακό επίπεδο.

Είναι Επιστημονικός Υπεύθυνος του ερευνητικού προγράμματος “HORIZON EUROPE” για το ερευνητικό έργο με τίτλο «EDU-LAB: European youth in education and in transition to the labour market» το οποίο χρηματοδοτείται από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση για την χρονική περίοδο 2025-2027. Επιπρόσθετα, έχει διατελέσει επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος και μέλος της ερευνητικής ομάδας πλήθους ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων. 

Είναι Editor της σειράς βιβλίων "Palgrave Studies in the Future of the European Economies and Societies" της Palgrave MacMillan. Επίσης, υπηρετεί ως Senior Associate Editor στο “Journal of the Knowledge Economy,” στο “Journal of Innovation and Entrepreneurship” και στο“International Journal of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development” καθώς και ως Guest Editor σε Special Issues επιστημονικών περιοδικών και ως μέλος των Editorial Boards επιστημονικών περιοδικών.
