Spiros Gardelis was born in Athens in 1966. He received his B.Sc. degree in Physics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1988, the M.Sc. and the PhD from the University of Manchester, England, in 1989 and 1993, respectively. In the years 1993-2000, he was Research Associate at the University of Manchester, University of Warwick and at Cavendish Laboratory (Physics Department) at the University of Cambridge in England. In 2000-2001, he served his Military Service. In 2001-2004, he was Reseach Associate at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) in Heraklion, Crete and concurrently taught as Visiting Associate Professor at the Materials Science Department of the University of Crete. From 2005 until 2015 he was Senior Researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the National Center for Scientific Research "DEMOKRITOS" in Athens, Greece. Since 2015, he is Associate Professor at the Physics Department of National and Kapodistrian Univerity of Athens. In 2019-2022, he was director of the Solid State Physics Laboratory at the Physics Depatment. He is a member of the internal evaluation commitee and a member of the Assembly of the Physics Department. His research interests include the physics of semiconductors, nanoelectronics, photonics, spintronics, MEMS and solar cell applications. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed scientific papers with more than 2000 citations.
