Experimental investigations of electromagnetic properties and lifetimes in low-energy states of mid-heavy nuclei
PhD candidate: Ahmed Khaliel (UoA)

Abstract
The main subject of this project is the experimental study of the structure of unknown electromagnetic properties and lifetimes in mid-heavy isotopes (A ~ 80-130). In the framework of this thesis, special attention will be given in the research of experimental signatures related to critical symmetries in mid-heavy nuclei via measurements of lifetimes, transition rates and spectroscopic magnetic moments in isotopic systems that have not yet been measured. Initially, important parts of the thesis consist of the preparation of the experimental setup and the optimization of any parameters regarding the success of the experimental procedure with modern techniques (RDDS, DSAM). Data analysis will focus on the nuclear structure properties of low energy states, aiming at an understanding of the development of the shape of the studied nuclei and the properties, which are related with it. Additional work consists of simulation of the experimental setup, theoretical calculations with the appropriate nuclear structure models and other side-activities (target construction and characterization, etc)
