Overview
Brain development is a highly orchestrated process where the coordinated sequence of progenitors’ proliferation, neuronal differentiation and migration is essential for proper brain development and function. The focus in the lab is to decipher the events that modulate brain development, evolution and diseases, which arise when such processes are disrupted or altered. Using animal and human-specific in vitro model systems we are modeling malformation of the cortical development, such as heterotopias, alterations of the gyrification index of the cortex, or total brain size changes as well as other neurodevelopmental, psychiatric and neurological disorders.
