Dr. Stavros Kolios obtained his undergraduate degree in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he also completed a Master’s Degree in Environmental Physics within the same department. During the course of his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, he developed specialized expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geostatistics. He subsequently earned his Doctorate from the University of the Aegean, Department of Geography, specializing in Physical Geography with a focus on satellite meteorology. Dr. Kolios has contributed to more than 15 research and development projects, serving as Principal Investigator in two of them. He is the primary author of the majority of his peer-reviewed journal publications, which collectively have over 300 citations, with an h-index of 10 and an average journal impact factor of 2.4 (source: Scopus, 01/07/2024). He is also the lead author of the scientific book entitled “GIS and Environmental Monitoring: Applications in the Marine, Atmospheric and Geomagnetic Fields”, published by Springer. Since 2021, Dr. Kolios has held the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Science & Technology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His teaching and research activities are primarily focused on digital image processing and satellite remote sensing.
