Short Bio

Yiannis Roussakis is  Assistant Professor of Education Policy and Teacher Education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Department of Educational Studies (EDS). He holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Education and Education Policy (University of Athens), M.Ed. in Pedagogy (University of Crete), B.Sc. in Physics and B.Ed. in Primary Education.

He is a Member of the Governing Board of the Authority for Quality Assurance in Primary and Secondary Education (2014-2017, 2018- Date). He also served as a Member of the Governing Board of the Greek Institute of Education Policy, where he worked for 5 years as member of the scientific staff and Counsellor for Primary Education and In-Service Training of Teachers.

Author of one book (“European Union: Policies for Education”, Greek Pedagogical Institute, 2008, with Chiristos Govaris) and co-editor of two collective volumes. Also author of many collective-volume chapters and scientific journal papers in Greek and in English.

Before joining NKUA / EDS he was Assistant Professor at the University of Thessaly, Department of Special (Teacher) Education, where he taught Comparative Education, Introduction to Pedagogy and supervised the Teaching Practicum of student teachers. He has also taught at the International Hellenic University, the European University Cyprus, the University of Oulu, the University of West Attica and the Alexander Technical Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, courses in Comparative Education, Education Policy, Entrepreneurship Education, Education and European Integration and Research Management. He has also taught in numerous in-service training seminars, European projects and programs for primary and secondary school teachers, mainly subjects relevant to European and International Education Policies, Teacher Education, Quality of Education and Educational Assessment.

His main research interests include European education policies in comparative perspective, teacher education policies and practices, educational assessment and quality improvement, education for sustainable development and ICTs in education. He has worked as a researcher in many research programs funded by European and national agencies and university research grants.

He is a member of the editorial board of the Scientific Journal “Comparative and International Education Review” published by the Greek Comparative and International Education Society and the University of Athens. He has served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Comparative Education Society in Europe (CESE) from 2008 to 2010.
