Marilou has completed her undergraduate studies in Biology, majored in Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology, at the University of Crete, in the course of which she was trained in molecular biology and genetics by studying malaria parasites at the IMBB, FORTH. Next, she developed her skills in handling genetically engineered insect cell lines and high throughput screenings of natural compounds through her postgraduate training at the IBA, NCSR Demokritos. After that, she obtained her Master’s degree 'Application of Biology in Medicine' at the department of Cell Biology and Biophysics at the NKUA's faculty of Biology. In 2022, she completed her PhD at the lab of 'Age and Ageing related diseases' under the supervision of Professor Ioannis Trougakos investigating the role of the proteostasis network during ageing and in age-related diseases. Now, she continues as a Post Doctoral Researcher at the same lab investigating the systemic effects of tissue specific proteomic instability in the model organism Drosophila melanogaster.  She has participated in Eu-funded projects, contributed to the authorship of research articles and presented her work in national and international conferences.
