At a glance, the current research themes pursued in our lab involve
a) New ligand synthesis leading (eventually) to syn-bimetallic and in some case tri-metallic complexes. These new complexes re currently being explored further in the CEPTr project.
b)The use of the venerable Cp (Cp = cyclopentadienyl) ligand, decorated with different R groups, in an effort to stabilise and consequently isolate low valent complexes of the d, f and p elements
c) Tailor made ligands that can stabilise low coordinate metal complexes via M-arene interactions of variable strength
d) Electrochemistry of organometallic complexes; these studies inform in general inform on our ability to access low valent organometallic species and point to new reactivity. We are also looking into using electrochemical methods to access other rare organometallic species by substituting stoichiometric redox reagents with electrons.
