Currently, I am Professor in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment, with subject "Geomorphology and Geographical Information Systems". I am also Deputy Director and Scientific Supervisor of Master Program «Geographic Information Systems», in the same Department.
I am a distinguished Doctor in both the Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment of the University of Athens (PhD entitled: "Geomorphological and Environmental study in Naxos Island (Cyclades) using remote sensing and GIS") and the Faculty of Geoarchaeology of the University of Franche Compte of France (PhD entitled: "Analyse spatiale, méthodologies et modélisation: géomorphologie et géoarchéologie dans le Sud Biterrois") and, also, I am actively involved in the research fields of geomorphology, sea level changes, palaeogeography, geoarchaeology, spatial technologies, study and modeling of natural hazards, while emphasizing on the use of new technologies and innovation.
I count more than 390 publications in scientific journals and 30 books and textbooks, while I have given many lectures in Greece and abroad.
My applied research has been supported both at a national level (Research Committee of the University of Athens, General Secretariat for Research and Technology, Ministry of Education, Municipalities) and internationally with numerous funds (Community Initiative Interreg, Leonardo DaVinci, FP7). Furthermore, I have participated in COST actions G2, A27, 634, C22, ES0701 and ES0907 of the European Science Foundation.
I have earned a number of awards and recognitions, with most prominents those of 2013 and 2019 from the Academy of Athens for work promoting the geological knowledge of the Greek region. Finally, I have organized 42 training schools and educational seminars and I have participated in organization of 48 conferences of national and international interest.
