Abstract:
Περίληψη Η παρούσα μελέτη διερευνά την επίδραση της χρήσης του εργαλείου τεχνητής νοημοσύνης ChatGPT στην κατανόηση των βασικών εννοιών του κεφαλαίου "Εξέλιξη" στη Γ' Γυμνασίου. Η έρευνα πραγματοποιήθηκε σε τρία τμήματα (72 μαθητές), εκ των οποίων τα δύο αποτέλεσαν την πειραματική ομάδα και το ένα την ομάδα ελέγχου. Η παρέμβαση περιλάμβανε καθοδηγούμενη διερεύνηση με ερωτήσεις προς το ChatGPT και σύνθεση εργασίας. Τα αποτελέσματα έδειξαν στατιστικά σημαντική βελτίωση στην τελική επίδοση των μαθητών της πειραματικής ομάδας σε σχέση με την ομάδα ελέγχου. ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ Η τεχνητή νοημοσύνη (ΤΝ) εισέρχεται δυναμικά στον χώρο της εκπαίδευσης, δημιουργώντας νέες προοπτικές για εξατομικευμένη μάθηση και ενίσχυση της κατανόησης σύνθετων εννοιών όπως η Θεωρία της Εξέλιξης που αποτελεί μία από τις πιο αφηρημένες και δύσκολες ενότητες για τους μαθητές. Στην εποχή της Εκπαίδευσης 4.0, οι τρόποι μάθησης διακρίνονται σε αυτούς που δίνουν έμφαση στην ενεργητική συμμετοχή των μαθητών, σε αυτούς που αξιοποιούν ψηφιακές πλατφόρμες και τεχνολογίες για σύγχρονες και ασύγχρονες δραστηριότητες και σε αυτούς που συνδυάζουν φυσική και διαδικτυακή εκπαίδευση μέσω τεχνικών όπως η μεικτή μάθηση και η ανεστραμμένη τάξη (Miranda et al., 2021). Πρόσφατες μελέτες δείχνουν ότι εργαλεία όπως το ChatGPT μπορούν να επηρεάσουν θετικά τη διδασκαλία της βιολογίας και τις περιβαλλοντικές επιστήμες, προσφέροντας εξατομικευμένη υποστήριξη και διευκολύνοντας την κατανόηση σύνθετων θεμάτων, όπως η εξέλιξη, μέσω διαδραστικών ερωτήσεων και παραδειγμάτων (Agathokleous et al., 2023). Επιπλέον, έρευνα σε μαθητές δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης στη Γερμανία έδειξε ότι η χρήση ChatGPT στη διδασκαλία της Εξέλιξης προσέφερε περιορισμένη βελτίωση στη γνωστική κατανόηση και υπογραμμίζει την ανάγκη για κριτική καθοδήγηση από τον εκπαιδευτικό, καθώς και την ανάγκη της κατάρτισης εκπαιδευτικών για τη χρήση τέτοιων εργαλείων (Aptyka et al., 2025; Hartelt & Aptyka, 2024). Παράλληλα, έρευνες σε εργαστηριακά περιβάλλοντα βιολογίας δείχνουν ότι το ChatGPT μπορεί να λειτουργήσει ως εικονικός βοηθός διδασκαλίας, βελτιώνοντας τη διδακτική αποτελεσματικότητα, αν και με περιορισμούς σε βάθος και συνέπεια (Doğru & Faulconer, 2025). Φαίνεται να αποτελεί αποτελεσματικό εργαλείο για την ενίσχυση της διδασκαλίας της βιολογίας, διευκολύνοντας την κατανόηση σύνθετων εννοιών (Jmoula, 2024) προσφέροντας παιδαγωγική υποστήριξη, επιτρέποντας στους μαθητές να μαθαίνουν με τον δικό τους ρυθμό και να καλύπτουν τις εκπαιδευτικές τους ανάγκες (Holmes & Tuomi, 2022; Qureshi, 2023). Επιπλέον, εξερευνητικές έρευνες δείχνουν ότι η χρήση ChatGPT στην εκπαίδευση μπορεί να ενισχύσει την ακαδημαϊκή ανθεκτικότητα και να βελτιώσει τις επιδόσεις στη βιολογία, ιδιαίτερα σε μαθητές δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης (Jamaluddin et al., 2025), ενώ η διερεύνηση της εφαρμογής του σε ποικίλα πεδία, όπως η υγεία και η έρευνα, καταδεικνύει την ευελιξία του εργαλείου (Hosseini et al., 2023). Στόχος της παρούσας μελέτης είναι να διερευνηθεί κατά πόσο η χρήση του ChatGPT μπορεί να συνεισφέρει ουσιαστικά στη βελτίωση του γνωστικού επιπέδου των μαθητών μέσα από μια διδακτική παρέμβαση που συνδέει τον ψηφιακό κόσμο με την παραδοσιακή διδασκαλία. Κατατάσσεται στο μοντέλο της μικτής μάθησης (blended learning) όπου ο ρόλος του εκπαιδευτικού είναι ουσιαστικός όχι μόνο ως μέντορας αλλά και ως διαμεσολαβητής (Bizami et al., 2023), και προσφέρει την μέγιστη ευελιξία στην μαθησιακή εμπειρία καθώς οι μαθητές συνδυάζουν τη μάθηση στο σχολείο με διαδικτυακές μαθησιακές εμπειρίες που σχεδιάστηκαν από τον εκπαιδευτικό (αντεστραμμένη μάθηση) (Boltsi et al., 2024; Chen et al., 2022; Jones & Sharma, 2017). ΜΕΘΟΔΟΛΟΓΙΑ Η έρευνα αξιολογεί την επίδραση του ChatGPT στα μαθησιακά αποτελέσματα, υιοθετώντας οιονεί-πειραματική προσέγγιση με ομάδα ελέγχου (ΟΕ) και πειραματική ομάδα (ΠΟ), προκειμένου να ελεγχθεί η αποτελεσματικότητα της παρέμβασης (Kerlinger, 1973). Η επιλογή αυτού του σχεδιασμού βασίστηκε στη δομή του σχολικού πλαισίου, όπου η τυχαία ανάθεση μαθητών σε ομάδες δεν είναι πάντα εφικτή (Shadish et al., 2002). Εξετάζεται η σχέση της ανεξάρτητης μεταβλητής (αλληλεπίδραση με το ChatGPT) και της εξαρτημένης (γνωστική πρόοδος μαθητών) (Cohen et al., 2000, pp. 211–212). Η ΠΟ συνδυάζει παραδοσιακή διδασκαλία και αλληλεπίδραση με το ChatGPT για σύνθεση εργασίας, ενώ η ΟΕ ακολουθεί μόνο παραδοσιακή διδασκαλία. Και οι δύο ομάδες αξιολογούνται μέσω κοινού τεστ (Hein, 1998, pp. 121–122). Περιγραφή δείγματος Στην έρευνα συμμετείχαν τρία τμήματα της Γ' Γυμνασίου. Τα δύο τμήματα (Ν=48) αποτέλεσαν την ΠΟ, ενώ το τρίτο (Ν=24) την ΟΕ. Η κατανομή των τμημάτων στις ομάδες έγινε με τυχαία επιλογή και για να επιβεβαιωθεί η ισοδυναμία των ομάδων, συγκρίθηκαν οι γενικοί ετήσιοι μέσοι όροι επίδοσης και η κατανομή του φύλου. Τα δεδομένα και για τις δυο ομάδες ακολουθούν κανονική κατανομή και ικανοποιούν το κριτήριο ομοιογένειας της διασποράς. Έτσι επιλέχθηκε το t-test ανεξαρτήτων δειγμάτων το οποίο έδειξε ότι δεν υπήρχε στατιστικά σημαντική διαφορά στους γενικούς ετήσιους μέσους όρους μεταξύ των ομάδων (πειραματικής M=16,8733, SD=0,29919 - ελέγχου M=16,2896, SD=0,32707) όπως αυτές διαμορφώθηκαν t(76)=1,228, p=0,223. Επιπλέον το Chi-square test για το φύλο έδειξε παρόμοια κατανομή αγοριών – κοριτσιών μεταξύ των δύο ομάδων x2(2)=0,452, p=0,798. Αυτά τα ευρήματα υποστηρίζουν την ισοδυναμία των δυο ομάδων όπως αυτές σχηματίστηκαν πριν την παρέμβαση. Η ισοδυναμία των ομάδων ελαχιστοποιεί κινδύνους για την εγκυρότητα, παρά τους περιορισμούς στην τυχαιοποίηση (Abbott, 2011, pp. 150–154; Creemers et al., 2010, pp. 102–114; Creswell, 2012, pp. 309–310; Muijs, 2004, pp. 26–32). Ερευνητικά ερωτήματα Ως μηδενική υπόθεση θεωρούμε την πιο συντηρητική υπόθεση εργασίας και διατυπώνεται για τους ελέγχους που ακολουθούν ως εξής: (Best & Kahn, 2006, pp. 11–12; Litwin, 1995, p. 6; Schreiber & Asner-Self, 2011, pp. 244–245). μηδενική υπόθεση Η0 : ∆ΕΝ υπάρχει σημαντικά στατιστική διαφορά της επίδοσης μεταξύ της ΠΟ και της ΟΕ. Αντίστοιχα διατυπώνεται η εναλλακτική υπόθεση Η1 : Υπάρχει σημαντικά στατιστική διαφορά της επίδοσης μεταξύ της μεταξύ της ΠΟ και της ΟΕ. Η διδακτική παρέμβαση Σε όλα τα τμήματα, διδάχθηκε το σχετικό 7ο κεφάλαιο του σχολικού βιβλίου και αφιερώθηκε επιπλέον μια διδακτική ώρα. Στο τμήμα που αποτελούσε την ΟΕ δόθηκε φύλλο εργασίας με ερωτήσεις όπως «Τι είναι η φυσική επιλογή και ποιοι είναι οι βασικοί της μηχανισμοί;», «Τι είναι τα απολιθώματα και πώς μας βοηθούν να κατανοήσουμε την εξέλιξη των οργανισμών;», «Τι ρόλο παίζουν οι μεταλλάξεις και η γενετική ποικιλότητα στην εξέλιξη;», «Υπάρχουν παραδείγματα φυσικής επιλογής που μπορούμε να παρατηρήσουμε σήμερα;», «Ποιες παρανοήσεις υπάρχουν γύρω από τη θεωρία της εξέλιξης και πώς μπορούμε να τις διορθώσουμε;» και ζητήθηκε από τους μαθητές να αναζητήσουν πληροφορίες στο σχολικό εγχειρίδιο και να ανακαλέσουν πληροφορίες από το εποπτικό υλικό που χρησιμοποιήθηκε. Τέλος ανατέθηκε στους μαθητές να συνθέσουν μια εργασία με θεματικές ενότητες όπως «Η φυσική επιλογή», «Ο Κάρολος Δαρβίνος και η θεωρία της εξέλιξης», «Απολιθώματα και απόδειξη της εξέλιξης», «Ο ρόλος των μεταλλάξεων», «Παραδείγματα φυσικής επιλογής σήμερα», «Επιστημονικά επιχειρήματα υπέρ της εξέλιξης». Στην πειραματική ομάδα ζητήθηκε να εργαστούν στο σπίτι θέτοντας τις ίδιες ερωτήσεις στο ChatGPT και να προχωρήσουν στην σύνθεση εργασίας. Παράλληλα τους δόθηκαν και οδηγίες στο πώς να ρωτούν πιο αποτελεσματικά ώστε να λαμβάνουν πιο κατανοητές σε αυτούς απαντήσεις. Για παράδειγμα να ζητάνε απλοποίηση «Ξαναγράψτο το σαν να μιλάς σε μαθητή Γ’ Γυμνασίου», να ζητάνε παραδείγματα «Δώσε μου ένα παράδειγμα από την καθημερινή ζωή.», συγκρίσεις «Μπορείς να το συγκρίνεις με κάτι που ήδη ξέρω;», αναλογίες «Εξήγησέ το με μια παρομοίωση.». Για όλα τα τμήματα χρησιμοποιήθηκε κοινό τελικό τεστ αξιολόγησης με 10 ερωτήσεις κλειστού τύπου (πολλαπλής επιλογής και σωστού/λάθους). ΑΠΟΤΕΛΕΣΜΑΤΑ Περιγραφική Στατιστική και Έλεγχος Κανονικότητας Το πλήθος των τεστ αξιολόγησης που τελικά συλλέχθηκαν και ο μέσος όρος βαθμολογίας για κάθε ομάδα φαίνονται στον πίνακα 1: Πίνακας 1. Απομένει να ελεγχθεί εάν αυτή είναι στατιστικά σημαντική. Για την επιλογή του κατάλληλου στατιστικού εργαλείου σύγκρισης έγινε έλεγχος κανονικότητας με το κριτήριο των Shapiro-Wilk καθώς είναι κατάλληλο για Ν<50 όπως στην περίπτωση μας (Δαφέρμος, 2011, pp. 268–273). Για την ΟΕ το αποτέλεσμα ήταν W = 0,888 (df = 21, p = 0,021), υποδεικνύοντας ότι τα δεδομένα αποκλίνουν σημαντικά από την κανονική κατανομή. Ομοίως, για την ΠΟ, το αποτέλεσμα ήταν W = 0,884 (df = 40, p = 0,001), υποδεικνύοντας επίσης σημαντική απόκλιση από την κανονική κατανομή. Σύγκριση ομάδων Αφού λοιπόν τα δεδομένα και των δύο ομάδων δεν ακολουθούν κανονική κατανομή, δεν συνιστάται η χρήση παραμετρικών στατιστικών ελέγχων χωρίς περαιτέρω διερεύνηση. Αντ’ αυτού, μη παραμετρικοί έλεγχοι, όπως ο Mann-Whitney U για σύγκριση των δύο ομάδων, είναι πιο κατάλληλοι (Field, 2009). Στον πίνακα 2 βλέπουμε τα αποτελέσματα της στατιστικής δοκιμής. Πίνακας 2. Grouping Variable: Group ,004 Ο έλεγχος Mann-Whitney U κατέδειξε στατιστικά σημαντική διαφορά στις βαθμολογίες μεταξύ της ΠΟ (N = 40, Mean Rank = 35,66) και της ΟΕ (N = 21, Mean Rank = 22,12), U = 233,500, Z = -2,864, p = 0,004. Το μέγεθος της επίδρασης που υπολογίστηκε (rrb = 0,44) υποδεικνύει μέτρια προς ισχυρή πρακτική σημασία, με την ΠΟ να παρουσιάζει υψηλότερη γνωστική πρόοδο σε σχέση με την ΟΕ. ΣΥΖΗΤΗΣΗ – ΣΥΜΠΕΡΑΣΜΑΤΑ Τα ευρήματα της παρούσας μελέτης επιβεβαιώνουν την αρχική υπόθεση ότι η ενσωμάτωση του ChatGPT ως εργαλείου διερεύνησης μπορεί να ενισχύσει σημαντικά την κατανόηση σύνθετων εννοιών όπως η θεωρία της εξέλιξης στους μαθητές της Γ' Γυμνασίου. Η στατιστικά σημαντική διαφορά στις βαθμολογίες μεταξύ της πειραματικής ομάδας (M = 6,23) και της ομάδας ελέγχου (M = 4,57), με μέγεθος επίδρασης rrb = 0,44, υποδηλώνει ότι η καθοδηγούμενη αλληλεπίδραση με το AI όχι μόνο βελτιώνει τα μαθησιακά αποτελέσματα αλλά και προάγει την ενεργητική μάθηση μέσα από ερωτήσεις, παραδείγματα και αναλογίες, σύμφωνα με τα μοντέλα της blended learning και της ανεστραμμένης τάξης (Boltsi et al., 2024; Chen et al., 2022). Αυτή η προσέγγιση ευθυγραμμίζεται με προηγούμενες έρευνες που τονίζουν τον ρόλο της ΤΝ στην εξατομίκευση της εκπαίδευσης και στην κάλυψη γνωστικών κενών (Agathokleous et al., 2023; Jmoula, 2024), ιδιαίτερα σε αφηρημένες ενότητες όπως η εξέλιξη, όπου οι μαθητές συχνά δυσκολεύονται να κατανοήσουν. Τα ευρήματά μας ευθυγραμμίζονται με άλλες έρευνες, που δείχνουν θετική γνωστική βελτίωση η οποία είναι περιορισμένη σε βαθύτερες έννοιες. Οι έρευνες αυτές προτείνουν τον αναστοχασμό και την εκπαίδευση των μαθητών και υπογραμμίζουν την σημασία της μικτής μάθησης με απαραίτητο στοιχείο την ανθρώπινη καθοδήγηση. Παράλληλα τονίζουν την ανάγκη για κατάρτιση των εκπαιδευτικών (Doğru & Faulconer, 2025; Hartelt & Aptyka, 2024). Παρά τα ενθαρρυντικά αποτελέσματα, η μελέτη αντιμετωπίζει περιορισμούς, που απορρέουν από το μέγεθος του δείγματος, την έλλειψη πλήρους τυχαιοποίησης. Επιπλέον δεν εξετάζεται η μακροπρόθεσμη διατήρηση των αποκτηθέντων γνώσεων ή οι πιθανές αρνητικές επιδράσεις, όπως η εξάρτηση από την ΤΝ. Τα αποτελέσματα καταδεικνύουν τη δυνητική αξία της ΤΝ ως γνωστικού και διδακτικού υποστηρικτή. Μελλοντικές μελέτες θα μπορούσαν να επεκταθούν σε μεγαλύτερα δείγματα, να ενσωματώσουν ποιοτικές αναλύσεις (π.χ. συνεντεύξεις μαθητών) και να συγκρίνουν διαφορετικά εργαλεία ΤΝ, προκειμένου να διερευνηθούν οι παιδαγωγικές προκλήσεις και ευκαιρίες στην Εκπαίδευση 4.0. Ο ρόλος του εκπαιδευτικού παραμένει κρίσιμος, καθώς η αποτελεσματικότητα τέτοιων παρεμβάσεων εξαρτάται από τη διδακτική διαμεσολάβηση και την ικανότητα πλαισίωσης της χρήσης των εργαλείων ΤΝ σε σαφές μαθησιακό και παιδαγωγικό πλαίσιο. Συμπερασματικά, η χρήση του ChatGPT αποδεικνύεται πολύτιμο συμπλήρωμα στην παραδοσιακή διδασκαλία που ενισχύει την προσβασιμότητα στη γνώση και προετοιμάζει τους μαθητές για έναν ψηφιακό κόσμο, υπό την προϋπόθεση κατάλληλης καθοδήγησης από τον εκπαιδευτικό. Abstract
This work aims to constructively use the differences between physics, as a typical representative branch of science, and biology, to enhance science education. It advocates for the use of a common science, technology, engineering, and mathematics teaching framework as a pedagogical tool for conveying concepts related to the epistemology of these two disciplines, highlighting their epistemological distinctions. Notable disparities include the absence of “universal” laws in biology, combined with the presence of a unifying theory in its instruction. Additionally, the differing roles of experimentation, mathematics, and history in these fields are examined. The text also addresses the distinction between the concepts of “social implications” and “social science,” alongside a discussion of essentialism in physics compared to the non-typological “population perspective” in biology, where the constant interplay of random errors and mutations serves as the universal driving force behind all biological phenomena.

The paper is an attempt to constructively use the differences between Science, led by Physics, on one hand and Biology on the other. More specifically, the common framework of STEM teaching is encouraged as a teaching tool for teaching concepts related to the epistemology of the two disciplines, through their epistemological differences. As such disparities, the following are proposed: The existence of a unifying theory in their teaching, and the absence of "universal" laws in Biology. Furthermore, the dissimilar roles played among them by the experiment, mathematics and history. Abstract:
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and its integration into education create newopportunities for teaching natural sciences, offering dynamic tools that enhance the learning process. Thisstudy explores the use of ChatGPT as a support tool for teaching the age of the Earth in secondary education.Specifically, it presents a teaching scenario that combines active inquiry, collaborative learning, and criticalthinking, enabling students to interact with ChatGPT for searching, processing, and evaluating scientificinformation.The methodology is based on a blended learning model, which combines traditional teaching withtechnology. In this approach, students formulate questions, analyze responses, and compare ChatGPT’sinformation with established scientific sources. Additionally, the study investigates the challenges associatedwith AI use in education, such as the need for digital literacy, information reliability, and the role of teachersas mediators in the learning process. The proposed teaching scenario consists of three parts: 1. Introductoryteaching, where fundamental concepts about the age of the Earth and scientific dating methods are presented.2. Interaction with ChatGPT, where students organized into groups, pose questions, search for answers, andevaluate the information received. 3. Evaluation and feedback to compare learning progress and explorestudents' experience of using the tool.The quantitative analysis of the research is based on the following data collection tools: Pre-test andpost-test, measuring students’ cognitive development before and after using ChatGPT. Likert-scalequestionnaires to capture students' experience and their perception of the reliability and usefulness of suchtools. Statistical data analysis, extracting conclusions about the effectiveness of integrating ChatGPT intoteaching practices.It was concluded that the use of ChatGPT enhanced learning engagement, encouraged an enquiryapproach and the development of students' critical thinking. Through statistical analysis of the data, it wasconcluded that it improved the cognitive level and the degree of understanding of the concepts. School Health Education and Teachers’ Preservice Training: The Case of Greece

Abstract:
Background: School health education (SHE) serves as a primary pedagogical aspect of public health. This study aims to explore the curricula of preservice schoolteachers, examining whether graduate courses in Greek universities include SHE, how it is structured, and whether critical pedagogy principles are integrated. Methods: A corpus of n = 21 documents was compiled, encompassing all educational departments in Greek higher education, including Departments of Early Childhood Education and Care (n = 3), Departments of Preschool Education (n = 9), and Departments of Primary Education (n = 9). Results: Content analysis revealed the presence of SHE in 11 out of 21 educational departments. Thematic analysis uncovered significant variability in the curricula, with greater emphasis placed on health-related topics rather than the methodologies and values of SHE. Critical pedagogy principles were not explicitly evident in the curricula, while a persistent biomedical orientation left little room for the development of concepts related to social justice. Conclusions: This study represents the first of its kind in Greece and among the few internationally to examine preservice training for schoolteachers in SHE. The findings underscore the need for revisions to align with the key lessons learned from the major public health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study aims to investigate questions related, on one hand, to the degree of familiarity that SecondaryScience Education teachers show with the Nature of Science and, on the other hand, to their understanding ofthe Theory of Evolution through Natural Selection. To what extent, e.g. better Epistemological Adequacy(knowledge of the Nature of Science) can influence the understanding and acceptance of the Evolution Theorythrough Natural Selection. Employing a closed-ended electronic questionnaire, the epistemologicalperceptions, understanding, and knowledge of the Evolution Theory via natural selection were assessed amonga cohort of 200 secondary education educators who teach or have taught biology-related subjects. Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate whether an epistemological adequacy (knowledge of the Nature of Science, NOS) contributes to a better understanding and the acceptance of the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection (ThENS). It was performed in two parts with the help of two questionnaires: 1. with students of Education, with a minimum familiarity to ThENS and NOS, before and after the application of a general biology course, and 2. with 200 Science Education teachers of various specialties who teach or have taught biology-related subjects. The education students showed some moderate levels of profi ciency regarding NOS that was improved statistically signifi cantly, even after a limited teaching intervention. An interesting founding was that, while their understanding of the ThENS was not very much improved by the course, it was found a positive correlation between their NOS familiarity and acceptance of evolution. As for the Science teachers, besides the above queries, some other variables were additionally investigated: E.g. to what extent, a better Epistemological Adequacy (knowledge of the Nature of Science) can infl uence their understanding and acceptance of the ThENS, or whether this affi liation could have been affected by their college or university instruction. The work is part of a larger project of teaching interdisciplinary teaching of physics concepts in biology within the science education class. It concerns the application of a thought experiment (ThE) about the movement of water in tracheophytes under different gravity conditions, i.e., the behavior of plants on another planet, for
example the Moon or Mars. The ThE was designed and implemented in a science class of 25 students who were instructed to perform it in a simulation environment using a software file that we created with the help of Interactive Physics software. The evaluation of the ThE carried out with a written questionnaire showed that the
use of such educational procedures can significantly help students to better understand the concepts related to capillary phenomena, the way water is transported to plants from roots to leaves and, generally, to contribute to
the interdisciplinary teaching of physics concepts in modules related to the teaching of biological phenomena and functions.

Darwin and Newton: Lives (Non) Parallels. On the 20th of March, we are to honor the death of Isaac Newton as we celebrated previously, Darwin's Day in middle February. Much has been written about their work, but I just want to remind that in 1859 Darwin published his findings in the book "The Origin of Species", arguing that the species of living organisms do not remain unchanged, as Aristotle and the book of Genesis argued, but have a common origin and through natural selection evolve over millennia. This position generated strong reactions from the first moment, mainly from the Church, who believes that the creation of the world is the result of Divine Grace. Darwin was labeled an atheist and mocked as a descendant of monkeys, while some of his supporters were dragged to court (Trial of the Apes). Today, more than a century after his death, the scientific community has accepted his theory, which has since been verified through numerous observations and newer discoveries. Abstract:
The present work is an attempt at a bibliographic overview in the field of paleontology and specifically in the field of fossils regarding their value and connection with history and mythology, and how it has been used to teach theory of evolution through natural selection (TENS) in a university course. To make our case, we use as our paradigm two well-known historical locations of Greece, namely Thermopiles and Marathon. The area of Marathon includes the location of Pikermi, which is very well known for its fossils that historically have been one of the first locations rich in fossils that have been studied so extensively. Before we make a short tour of other similar locations of the Greek peninsula that are good cases for teaching evolution using paleontology, we present an example of how fossils can be formed via sedimentation. For that, we are using the case of Thermopile, while in antiquity was chosen as the field of the famous battle as it was a very narrow strip of land between the mountain and the sea, nowadays, due to sedimentary alluvial deposits, has become a rather large field. To make the reader familiar with the fossils found around Greece and their topology, we present a short tour and some history about the fossils found throughout its territory. ABSTRACT: The aim of the presentation is to discuss the findings of a series of research projects that we have been carried out with various groups of students in the University of Athens and concern the teaching of biology by means of evolution through natural selection (THES). In the article it is discussed the conclusions after teaching a biology course based on evolution as the unifying theory, while at the same time more general issues are raised: Is it, for example, a realistic goal to teach biology by means of this kind of teaching? Secondly, what is the usefulness of such a perspective. Which was studied by quantitative and qualitative studies on the conceptual ecology (CE) of the evolution of Greek students. The latter showed the value of this kind of approach in the acceptance and understanding of the THES, as part of students’ CI. Thirdly, ccomparative studies with beginners and advanced students in terms of evolution education showed, that, merely teaching evolution within a course, even if the latter is based on the THES, it is not enough to make someone in-depth connoisseur. It seems that to be acquainted with it to more depth the learners need to go through two stages: in the first, they may move from the stage of owing Aristotelian views of the issue, i.e., from typology, to the early “Darwinian” ones. And they need to go through a second one, where via, in-depth educational training, they might move to the next, namely, the population view of thinking.Environmental Health issues: an imperative need for scientific literacy.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to highlight issues of scientific literacy that characterize the Greek society in environmental and health issues, and the need to integrate the Teaching of Science and Biology with Health and Environmental Education. This is accomplished by the means of presentation of previous examples from the literature and through the presentation of studies of my own, as well. Thus, it is indicated that this and of course, other societies are characterized by a significant deficit in the familiarity with these matters. Next, I make a historical and personal appraisal on the evolution of the field of environmental health and genetics and try to make some review on its history, due to having the privilege of experiencing close correlation with it almost on its birth. Lastly, it is presented, a proposal for a university course adapted to the needs of present and future teachers combined to its evaluation. The latter was made through a questionnaire and the response of 153 students of education that highly rated the course as it was shown on the Likert scale. All this reveals emphatically the need for integrating the field of Environmental Health Education to Science and Biology teaching. ΑΠΟ ΤΗ ΡΩΜΙΟΣΥΝΗ ΣΤΑ ΛΙΑΝΟΤΡΑΓΟΥΔΑ Μία βιωματική αναδρομή στην πορεία των ανθρώπων της μετεμφυλιακής γενιάς με αφορμή τραγούδια του Μ. Θεοδωράκη
Το βιβλίο φιλοδοξεί να αποτελέσει μία συνέχεια του προηγούμενου βιβλίου του συγγραφέα με τίτλο «Υιός Συμμορίτου», το οποίο θεωρείται πλέον βιβλίο αναφοράς σε ότι αφορά στα βιώματα της γενιάς των επιγόνων του Ελληνικού Εμφυλίου.
Με πρόσχημα 20 τραγούδια του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη που χρησιμεύουν ως σημεία αναφοράς ή αναδρομής, περιγράφονται 20 διαφορετικά περιστατικά, από τη ζωή του συγγραφέα. Τα περιστατικά αυτά, καλύπτουν πέντε σημαντικές περιόδους που βίωσε η γενιά αυτή, ξεκινώντας από τα πρώτα μετεμφυλιακά χρόνια:
Παιδικά και χρόνια της εφηβείας.
Φοιτητικά χρόνια.
Δικτατορία και χρόνια του στρατού.
Περίοδος της μετανάστευσης.
Επιστροφή στην Ελλάδα- πρώτα χρόνια της Μεταπολίτευσης.

Abstract:
Darwin's Day has been celebrated, worldwide, a few weeks ago. This communication does not intend to address Darwin's scientific views, but aims to focus on his religious beliefs and, above all, on the reasons why Darwin was led to reject religion. Which, in the opinion of the writer, it is not related to his scientific views, i.e. the Theory of Evolution through Natural Selection but, mainly, with reasons that go back to the field of Ethics in the broad sense, and to logical considerations, as well.- 1 of 8
