Theodore Papaioannou is Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Head of the Biomedical Engineering Unit of the First Department of Cardiology at Hippokration General Hospital of Athens and Director of the Department of History of Medicine and Medical Ethics at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA).

He received the Diploma of Mechanical Engineer from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and his Ph.D. from the Medical School (UoA). He is Visiting Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland and "Carol Davila" University, Bucharest, Romania. He was external consultant of Microsoft Research (Microsoft, USA), research fellow at the Computational Biomedicine Lab, Department of Computer Science, Houston University, USA, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Biofluid Mechanics and Biomedical Technology at the School of Mechanical Engineering (NTUA) and external research associate at Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens.
Prof. Papaioannou is Chair of the Committee for Negotiation of Reimbursement Prices of Healthcare Services and Medical Devices of the National Organization for Healthcare Service (EOPYY, Greece) and National Representative in the European Coordination Group on HTA for Medical Devices. He is Vice-President of the Hellenic Society of Digital Medicine and the Hellenic Department of the Balkan Medical Union.

He received scholarships from the State Scholarship Foundation, the Hellenic Society of Cardiology and the Hellenic Cardiology Foundation. He is Vice-President of the Hellenic Society of Digital Medicine and the Hellenic Department of the Balkan Medical Union.
