Bio

I am a Professor of Didactics of Geography at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece. I received my PhD (thesis entitled “Approaches to Teaching Dynamic Geographical Phenomena”) from the Democritus University of Thrace, and I am specialized in Teaching Advanced Placement Human Geography at the University of Oregon, USA.

At NKUA, I head the Laboratory of Teaching & Epistemology of Science and Educational Technology in the Department of Pedagogy and Primary Education. I also lead a joint PhD program between NKUA and TSU, titled “Governance and Administration in Education and Science.”

At the graduate level, I teach courses related to Physical Geography and Natural Phenomena, Climate and Climate Change, Natural Disasters, Geological Time, Cartography and Map Projections, Sociocultural Geography, and STEM-based approaches to Geography Education through robotics and digital technologies.

At the Master’s level, I teach Science Communication, Remote Sensing applications for the study of natural disasters, research methodology and I am responsible for the practical training in science communication. My academic interests focus on interdisciplinary learning, climate literacy, geospatial technologies, astronomy education, disaster education, and innovative pedagogical approaches that integrate STEM and digital tools into Geography teaching.

My work emphasizes the connection between scientific knowledge, technology, education, and society, with a particular focus on helping students understand complex environmental and geographical phenomena through interactive, inquiry-based, and technology-enhanced learning approaches.

From my position, I instruct the research work of Master's students, PhD students, and Post-docs students in the above-mentioned fields.

I serve as Coordinator and Senior Researcher in many international, European, and national research projects in my areas of specialization. I am also an active member of national, European, and international academic associations related to my field.

Earlier in my career, I spent ten years at the Pedagogical Institute of Greece, where I developed more than six curricula for primary and secondary education, two for inclusive education, and three for the professional development of teachers and school leaders. I have given over 40 lectures and workshops on capacity building for educators, and I have evaluated numerous research projects and educational materials.

I have had the opportunity to collaborate with leading institutions in Greece such as the Gennadius Library, the Archaeological Society at Athens, and the Ancient Agora, contributing to the design of educational tools and digital applications for enhancing museum and library visits. I also work with the Laskaridis Foundation and the Foundation of the Hellenic World on non-formal education projects related to science and cultural geography.

To date, my publications consist of books (more than 15), scientific articles, and invited chapters in peer-reviewed journals and academic volumes. I am a reviewer of many scientific papers the field of my expertese and conferences.
