Abstract:

Erosion represents a natural process, during which particles of geological
formations are carried away by water, wind or by their combination. It is a
significant social and economic problem, which makes research on land and water
management necessary. Monitoring of erosion is needed in order to predict the
development of the incident and moderate it.
The selected study area is the Syros Island, a small Cycladic island. In order to
assess erosion risk index, a number of effective factors were used. These factors
were used as input variables of the risk model, from which derived the output
variable that lead to the production of the erosion risk map.
