Σκοπός της παρούσας έρευνας ήταν να διερευνηθούν οι διαστάσεις του αναγνωστικού κινήτρου των Ελλήνων μαθητών Δ΄ και Στ΄ δημοτικού. Αναλυτικότερα, εξετάζεται κατά πόσον οι διαστάσεις του θεωρητικού μοντέλου των Wigfield και Guthrie (1995) ανιχνεύονται στο αναγνωστικό κίνητρο των Ελλήνων μαθητών δημοτικού σχολείου, η σπουδαιότητα των διαστάσεων αυτών για τους μαθητές, καθώς και οι μεταξύ τους συσχετίσεις. Ένα αντιπροσωπευτικό δείγμα 1.136 μαθητών Δ΄ και Στ΄ Δημοτικού από σχολεία της Αθήνας και του Πειραιά συμπλήρωσαν την ελληνική προσαρμογή του Ερωτηματολογίου Αναγνωστικών Κινήτρων ( Motivations for Reading Questionnaire, Wigfield & Guthrie, 1995), το οποίο επιτρέπει μια λεπτομερή ανίχνευση της πολυδιάστατης φύσης του αναγνωστικού κινήτρου. Αναδείχθηκαν τέσσερις διακριτές, αν και σχετιζόμενες μεταξύ τους, διαστάσεις: Σχολική Επίδοση, Κοινωνικοί Λόγοι, Βαθμός Δυσκολίας Αναγνώσματος και Είδος Αναγνώσματος. Οι διαστάσεις αυτές είναι λιγότερες από τις διαστάσεις του πρωτότυπου ερωτηματολογίου. Ισχυρότερο κίνητρο για ανάγνωση προέκυψε η Σχολική Επίδοση και ακολουθούν το Είδος του Αναγνώσματος και ο Βαθμός Δυσκολίας του Αναγνώσματος, ενώ το χαμηλότερο κίνητρο για ανάγνωση είναι οι Κοινωνικοί Λόγοι. Παρατηρήθηκαν στατιστικά σημαντικές συνάφειες ανάμεσα σε ορισμένες διαστάσεις του αναγνωστικού κινήτρου. Τα ευρήματα συζητούνται με αναφορά στα ευρήματα της σχετικής διεθνούς βιβλιογραφίας με τα οποία είναι σύστοιχα, καθώς σε όλες τις έρευνες αναγνωρίζεται η πολυδιάστατη φύση του αναγνωστικού κινήτρου. Τέλος, με βάση τα ευρήματα της έρευνας, προτείνονται παιδαγωγικές πρακτικές για την ενίσχυση του αναγνωστικού κινήτρου, με στόχο την καλλιέργεια της φιλαναγνωσίας και την ολόπλευρη ανάπτυξη του παιδιού.

Dans cet article, nous présentons la revue Le Tour du monde : journal des voyages, qui a été publiée par Édouard Charton, et nous nous attardons sur l’importance de son illustration. Plus précisément nous traitons de la représentation de l’Autre dans les récits des voyages, qui étaient publiés entre 1860 et le début du XXe sièle. Constituant un corpus hétérogène, les articles rédigés par des auteurs comme Henri Cammas, Ernest Chantre, Bellonie Chantre, Louis Lortet, Charles Grad et Paul Merruaut et illustrés par des artistes célèbres comme Édouard Riou, Henriette Browne et Adalabert de Beaumont, communiquent des informations importantes sur les populations des endroits parcourus. Quoique les auteurs de la TdM, qui avaient des relations superficielles avec les populations des contrées parcourues, n’aient pas évité une représentation stéréotypée de l’Autre, leurs descriptions et leurs commentaires sur l’apparence extérieure ainsi que leurs références à la religion, au dogme, aux moeurs et aux coutumes des habitants ont reconstitué une image vivante et variée de l’Orient. Notre étude s’attarde également sur l’illustration des articles, qui, appuyée sur un matiériel iconographique varié (dessins, photographies), fournit des informations précieuses sur les sujets traités.

The liar and kindred paradoxes make it difficult to construct a consistent and plausible formal theory of truth. One approach is to tackle them not by restricting the principles about truth that pre-theoretically seem correct, but by deviating from classical logic. I outline a nonclassical propositional logic I have constructed within that approach, as well as a theory of truth embedded in the framework of the logic. Ο Αριστείδης Παρίσης, ψευδώνυμο του ηθοποιού Αριστείδη Σακκά, γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στο Ληξούρι της Κεφαλλονιάς στα τέλη του 19ου αι. Παντρεύτηκε τη Δέσποινα Παρίση και απέκτησε δύο κόρες : την Κατίνα και την Ευαγγελία. Ως έφεδρος αξιωματικός υπηρέτησε στην Εθνική Άμυνα της Θεσσαλονίκης. Λόγω των πολιτικών αντιβασιλικών φρονημάτων του καταδιώχθηκε, τόσο από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, όσο και από τη Λάρισα όπου είχε καταφύγει. Παράλληλα δρούσε ως ηθοποιός σε θιάσους, όπως στο θίασο Σαμαρτζή, αλλά και ως θιασάρχης. Τα μέλη της οικογένειάς του συγκροτούσαν, κατά κύριο λόγο, το θίασο. Οι κόρες του έπαιζαν στην σκηνή, τραγουδούσαν και χόρευαν από πολύ μικρή ηλικία. Στη Λάρισα, παρουσία αξιωματικών, τον πυροβόλησαν την ώρα όπου βρισκόταν επί σκηνής και παιζόταν μια αντιβασιλική επιθεώρηση, την οποία μάλιστα είχε γράψει ο ίδιος. Έπειτα από τα δραματικά γεγονότα στη Θεσσαλία, η οικογένεια Παρίση ξεκίνησε περιοδεία σε ολόκληρη την Ελλάδα και ακολούθησε μια συγκλονιστική θεατρική περιπέτεια με σταθμούς την Κωνσταντινούπολη, τη Σερβία, την Ιταλία, την Αίγυπτο, τη Ρουμανία, το Παρίσι, τη Μασσαλία, τις Βρυξέλλες και την Αμερική. Οι περιοδείες του Παρίση διήρκεσαν δεκαετίες, προσφέροντας αποφασιστικά στις εστίες του ελληνισμού της διασποράς. Το ρεπερτόριο του θιάσου αποτελείτο από κωμωδίες, πολύπρακτες και μονόπρακτες, επιθεωρήσεις, οπερέτες, κωμειδύλλια, δραματικά ειδύλλια και πατριωτικά δράματα. Ο Παρίσης επιδίωκε να ικανοποιεί τα γούστα του κοινού, προσκολλημένος στα έργα της σίγουρης σκηνικής επιτυχίας, χαρίζοντας γενναιόδωρα άλλοτε γέλιο και άλλοτε συγκίνηση. Ο Αριστείδης Παρίσης υπήρξε πολυσχιδής προσωπικότητα και η δράση του εκτείνεται σχεδόν σε όλους τους κλάδους του θεάτρου: σκηνοθέτης, ηθοποιός, δάσκαλος θεάτρου, θεατρικός επιχειρηματίας, σκηνογράφος, ενδυματολόγος, συγγραφέας αλλά και μεταφραστής θεατρικών έργων.

Αντικείμενο του άρθρου αποτελεί η ιστορία και η διαδρομή των Επτανήσιων Γεράσιμου Κουρούκλη και Παναγή Σβορώνου, άγνωστων ή λιγότερο γνωστών καλλιτεχνών του μουσικού θεάτρου αλλά και της νεοελληνικής σκηνής του πρώτου μισού του 20ου αι. Γεννήθηκαν στην Κεφαλονιά στα τέλη του 19ου αι. και εν συνεχεία βρέθηκαν στην πρωτεύουσα όπου εντάχθηκαν σε αθηναϊκούς θιάσους παίζοντας μικρούς ρόλους, κυρίως σε επιθεωρήσεις και οπερέτες. Σύντομα ο Κουρούκλης εγκατέλειψε την Ελλάδα και περιπλανήθηκε σε όλο τον κόσμο (Αφρική, Αυστραλία, Αμερική κ.α.) αρχικά συμπράττοντας με περιοδεύονται θιάσους και αργότερα ως θιασάρχης, όπως και ο Σβορώνος, ο οποίος είχε μια αντίστοιχη περιπετειώδη καλλιτεχνική πορεία. Στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1930 οι δύο Κεφαλλονίτες κατάφεραν να γίνουν οι κυρίαρχοι των ελληνοαμερικανικών σκηνών της Αμερικής ως επικεφαλής οπερετικών θιάσων. Ο Κουρούκλης παρέμεινε στην Νέα Υόρκη, όπου έλαβε και την αμερικανική υπηκοότητα ενώ ο Σβορώνος επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα, όπου όχι μόνο συνέχισε την θεατρική του πορεία αλλά δραστηριοποιήθηκε και στον κινηματογράφο. Οι δύο ηθοποιοί, έχουν πολλά κοινά σημεία επαφής, καθώς οι διαδρομές τους διασταυρώνονται στην Κεφαλονιά, σε αθηναϊκούς θιάσους, στην Αίγυπτο, στις αμερικανικές πολιτείες κ.α. δίνοντας μια ιδιότυπη συνοχή στην καλλιτεχνική τους πορεία.

Έλληνες μετανάστες στην Αμερική των αρχών του 20ου αι., όντας αυτοδίδακτοι, επιδόθηκαν στην συγγραφή αυτοσχέδιων θεατρικών έργων: κωμικών, ιστορικών, ηθικοπλαστικών αλλά κυρίως νοσταλγικών ή αλλιώς μεταναστευτικών δραμάτων. Οι δημιουργοί, αν και διαφορετικοί ως ιδιοσυγκρασίες, έχουν πολλά σημεία επαφής, καθώς εσωτερικές σχέσεις και διαδρομές διασταυρώνονται στις αμερικανικές πολιτείες δίνοντας μια ιδιότυπη συνοχή στην εργογραφία τους. Απ’ τη μια οι συνθήκες στέρησης και απ’ την άλλη η ανάγκη διατήρησης της ελληνικότητας τους οδήγησαν στη νοσταλγική δραματουργία. Το ύφος των έργων σε πολλά σημεία συγκλίνει διατηρώντας το ίδιο μοτίβο ως προς το σχήμα και το περιεχόμενο, ενώ ο αναγνώστης εύκολα αισθάνεται την αμηχανία συναισθηματολογίας και τον άκαιρο ρομαντισμό, την εσωστρέφεια και την αδυναμία προσαρμογής. Τα χρόνια που ακολούθησαν, όταν πλέον οι συνθήκες διαβίωσης των μεταναστών είχαν βελτιωθεί, παραμόνευε η παγίδα της επανάληψης, η μανιέρα. Η νέα γενιά δραματουργών της δεκαετίας του 30’, μετατοπίζουν την θεματολογία απομακρύνοντάς την από τις τραυματικές μεταναστευτικές εμπειρίες και εστιάζοντας στην ανάγκη απόκτησης μιας νέας ταυτότητας. Απ’ την μια λοιπόν διαιωνίζεται η νοσταλγική δραματουργία, «της μνήμης», από μερίδα παλαίμαχων δραματουργών και από την άλλη καλλιεργείται η γραφή της νέας εποχής, όπου συγκεράζει την ελληνική παράδοση με τον αμερικανικό τρόπο ζωής. Ωστόσο ούτε η νέα οπτική είναι ψύχραιμη αφού σχεδόν πάντα διαφαίνεται η ανοικτή πληγή της ξενιτιάς.

Στόχος της εργασίας αυτής είναι να συνοψίσει και να παρουσιάσει τα ευρήματα των πιο πρόσφατων μετα-αναλύσεων και ανασκοπήσεων για την αποτελεσματικότητα των προληπτικών και παρεμβατικών προγραμμάτων κατά του σχολικού εκφοβισμού. Γίνονται αναφορές στα ερευνητικά σχέδια με τα οποία έχει αξιολογηθεί η αποτελεσματικότητα των προγραμμάτων, καθώς και στους τρόπους αξιολόγησης του εκφοβισμού και της θυματοποίησης στα προγράμματα αυτά. Με δεδομένη την ελάχιστη έως μέτρια επιτυχία των περισσότερων παρεμβάσεων, διατυπώνονται ερμηνείες για την περιορισμένη αυτή αποτελεσματικότητα. Η ερευνητικά τεκμηριωμένη γνώση των αρχών, των συστατικών και των επιπέδων παρέμβασης που επιφέρουν τη μεγαλύτερη μείωση του σχολικού εκφοβισμού είναι απολύτως απαραίτητη για τη διαμόρφωση της αντι-εκφοβιστικής πολιτικής και στην Ελλάδα.

The aim of my participation in the Round Table entitled “Victimization and bullying in school (kindergarten, primary school, secondary school)” is to present a number of dysfunctional beliefs of educators about school bullying, which impede the implementation of preventive and interventive anti-bullying programs. Data are drawn from empirical research in various countries, and from recent Greek studies. Identifying and challenging these dysfunctional beliefs is a necessary first step before anti-bullying intervention, as it is well documented that the effectiveness of this intervention depends largely on the educator.

Σκοπός αυτής της έρευνας ήταν να εξετάσει το κλίμα της σχολικής τάξης όπως το αντιλαμβάνονται τα παιδιά που έχουν προβλήματα συμπεριφοράς. Η συμβολή της έρευνας είναι ότι συμπεριέλαβε μια μεγάλη ποικιλία διαστάσεων του κλίματος της σχολικής τάξης και μια μεγάλη ποικιλία προβλημάτων συμπεριφοράς. Σε 221 μαθητές Ε΄ και Στ΄ τάξης από σχολεία της Αθήνας δόθηκε το Ερωτηματολόγιο της Ζωής στη Σχολική Τάξη (Johnson & Johnson, 1983). Από αυτούς, 46 μαθητές παρουσίαζαν προβλήματα συμπεριφοράς, σύμφωνα με το Achenbach Ερωτηματολόγιο για Εκπαιδευτικούς (Achenbach & Rescorla, 2001) και συγκρίθηκαν, ως προς το αντιληπτό κλίμα της σχολικής τάξης, με 50 μαθητές ίδιας ηλικίας και φύλου χωρίς προβλήματα συμπεριφοράς. Τα ευρήματα έδειξαν ότι οι μαθητές με προβλήματα συμπεριφοράς είχαν χαμηλότερη σχολική αυτοεκτίμηση, την τάση να βιώνουν αποξένωση, να έχουν εξωγενές κίνητρο και να βιώνουν ανταγωνισμό περισσότερο από τους συμμαθητές τους χωρίς προβλήματα συμπεριφοράς. Για κάθε σύνδρομο προβλημάτων συμπεριφοράς προέκυψαν διαφορετικές συνδέσεις με τη σχολική προσαρμογή και το αντιληπτό κλίμα της σχολικής τάξης. Συζητούνται και οι εκπαιδευτικές υποδηλώσεις των ευρημάτων.

Το κοινωνικό κεφάλαιο, πρωτεύων και απαραίτητος συντελεστής ανάπτυξης, αποτελεί σήμερα πηγή δυναμικής επιστημονικής έρευνας. Θεωρείται πυρηνική έννοια στην κοινωνιολογία, στην πολιτική επιστήμη, στην επιστήμη της συμπεριφοράς, στην οικονομία, στους τομείς της διοίκησης και της οικονομικής επιχειρηματικότητας αλλά αποτελεί σχετικά καινούργια έννοια στον αθλητισμό, στην αθλητική διοίκηση και ηγεσία. Η εργασία αυτή προβαίνει σε μία συστηματική ανασκόπηση των θεωρητικών προσεγγίσεων και εμπειρικών ερευνών περί κοινωνικού κεφαλαίου με στόχο την προσέγγιση της κοινωνικής περιοχής του αθλητισμού υπό την οπτική της ανάλυσης του κοινωνικού κεφαλαίου. Η διεθνής βιβλιογραφία στο θέμα Αθλητισμός ως Κοινωνικό Κεφάλαιο (Walseth 2008, Nicholson & Hoye 2008, Tonts 2005), μολονότι περιορισμένη, αναδεικνύει ότι όσο ισχυρότερο είναι το κοινωνικό κεφάλαιο που αποκτάται στο πεδίο του αθλητισμού τόσο διευκολύνεται-προωθείται η κοινωνική ενσωμάτωση. Με επίκεντρο τη θεωρητική προσέγγιση και τα τεκμηριωμένα στοιχεία του Robert Putnam (2000, 2004) - και ιδιαίτερα η διάκριση μεταξύ των δύο διαστάσεων του κοινωνικού κεφαλαίου: «γεφυροποιό-έμμεσο» και «περιοριστικό-αποκλειστικό» - πραγματευόμαστε την κοινωνική περιοχή του αθλητισμού. Οι θεωρητικές προσεγγίσεις του Putnam - που διαφέρουν από εκείνες του Bourdieu (1983,1986) - έχουν δεχτεί έντονη κριτική (Adkins 2005, Misztal 2005, Morrow 2003, 2004, Etzioni 2001). Ωστόσο έχουν συμβάλλει δυναμικά στην έρευνα και αποτελούν χρήσιμο εργαλείο ανάλυσης, ειδικά στις έρευνες που εξετάζουν το κοινωνικό κεφάλαιο του αθλητισμού (Walseth 2008, et al). Εξερευνώντας τη συνάφεια του αθλητισμού και του κοινωνικού κεφαλαίου, διακρίνουμε ότι θεωρητικά και πρακτικά ο αθλητισμός είναι δυνατόν να προσδιοριστεί ως «γεφυροποιό- έμμεσο» κοινωνικό κεφάλαιο που προωθεί κοινωνική ενσωμάτωση, αλληλεγγύη, ισότητα, κτλ., όπως δείχνει και η ανασκόπηση των δραστηριοτήτων μη-κυβερνητικών οργανώσεων, όπως οι PeaceFirst (Peace Games) και Sport in Society (SIS), που αγωνίζονται για την εισαγωγή μιας παιδαγωγικής ειρήνης (peace education) στη δημόσια εκπαίδευση. Ταυτόχρονα, ο αθλητισμός μπορεί να προσεγγιστεί και ως κοινωνική περιοχή που αναπαράγει «περιοριστικό-αποκλειστικό» κοινωνικό κεφάλαιο ή ακόμα και σκοτεινό κοινωνικό κεφάλαιο, δεδομένου ότι η πολιτική του αθλητισμού δεν συντελεί πάντα στην πρόοδο - αν λάβουμε υπόψη την εμπορευματοποίηση, το ντόπινγκ, τη φυλετική βία στα γήπεδα, τις περιβαλλοντικές επιπτώσεις των Ολυμπιακών έργων, την κραυγαλέα υποεκπροσώπηση των γυναικών στους αθλητικούς θεσμούς, την «αθλητική μετανάστευση», το «αθλητικό εργατικό δυναμικό», την αφαίρεση της εθνικής ταυτότητας του «παγκόσμιου αθλητή-μετανάστη» (Takahashi & Horne, 2006) και ειδικά την απώλεια αυτού του αθλητικού δυναμικού στη χώρα προέλευσης (social capital drain). Ο αθλητισμός-ανεκμετάλλευτη πηγή κοινωνικής ενέργειας—έχει τη δυνατότητα να εξελιχθεί σε μια μορφή «γεφυροποιού» κοινωνικού κεφαλαίου. Στη λογική αυτή, δεδομένου ότι ο αθλητισμός αποτελεί παγκόσμιο φαινόμενο και πολιτιστικό θεσμό, προτείνεται ο επαναπροσδιορισμός των ηθικών του πλαισίων: διαμόρφωση εναλλακτικών προτάσεων, αθλητικών μοντέλων και προτύπων, επανενεργοποίηση των Ολυμπιακών αξιών. It seems we've come a long way since women‘s exclusion from the so-called male fields of the hard sciences. Women constitute over half the student population (52,9%) in the technological institutions in Greece and represent 58.7% of the total university student population. In the European Union (EU) 29.7 million women work in the science and technology (S&T) sectors, the highest percentage in Lithuania (72%) followed by Estonia (69.7%). On the other hand, the ―glass escalator (Hultin 2003, Williams 1992) is not yet gender inclusive since women today continue to be exceedingly under-represented in the workplace and especially in decision making positions: research, engineering, science and technology (S&T) and the academic hierarchies. An abundance of evidence indicates that men usually ride up the glass escalator as opposed to women who hit the glass ceiling and run into the ―sticky floor (Kimmel 2004). Gender diversity mainstreaming has given the impression that gender issues at work have been resolved, making subtle discrimination harder to spot. Current research indicates the need to focus on innovative approaches to getting gender back onto the agenda, namely to re-evaluate how we can move from ―gender fatigue (Kelan 2010, Merriman 2009) to gender energy. In examining international dialogue on the effects of the glass ceiling, the glass escalator and―gender fatigue, this paper discusses the 2009 ICT status report (European Commission 2010) which confirms that women’s interest in an academic career or in a career in the ICT sector is decreasing and presents an overview of the gender distribution in scientific research and in the academic hierarchies in Greece, where women still comprise a minority.   Keywords: gender pay gap, glass escalator, glass ceiling, sticky floor, tokenism, gender fatigue.    

Historical buildings are important structures and their preservation and restoration is a vital issue worldwide. A crucial step before interventions is the definition of potential hazards and the monument’s vulnerability estimation. The Kapnikarea chapel is one of the most important and popular Byzantine monuments in Athens and dates back to the 11th century. In 1994, construction of the Athens underground Metro system began, with the tunnels passing underneath Kapnikarea foundations. During excavations, sounds of the approaching underground activities (heavy drilling and hydraulic hammer equipment) were heard in the interior of the chapel, and several failures were observed inside the church. Additional reasons reduced the structure’s rigidity are deterioration in time and past severe earthquakes. Towards the restoration planning of the monument, the University of Athens together with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism, assigned to our research group the task to investigate the fundamental frequencies of the monument and of its soil foundation in order to determine resonance phenomena capable of compromising building stability during an earthquake. For this purpose, we conducted a microtremor survey. Ambient noise measurements were taken for 87 points located both on the ground and the chapel. Using the HVSR technique we determined the response of the ground, the monument’s predominant frequency and the spatial variations of the peak frequencies on the monument. Based on the experimental observations we discuss the possibility that differentiations are due to the structural members’ particularity and/or health.

(2009). Η συμβολή της ‘Ολυμπιακής Παιδείας’ στην αντιμετώπιση της παραβατικότητας των νέων. Η νεολαία, διαχρονικά, δεν είναι μόνο αντικείμενο διαπαιδαγώγησης, αλλά και υποκείμενο δράσης, με ιδιαίτερες επιδιώξεις και επιθυμίες. Η καθημερινότητα και ο δυτικός πολιτισμός αποδεικνύουν, μάλιστα, πως η σύγχρονη νεολαία είναι εκτεθειμένη σε μια πληθώρα ατομικών και κοινωνικών προβλημάτων, τα οποία κάθε νέος αντιμετωπίζει με εντελώς διαφορετικό τρόπο. Ο τρόπος με τον οποίο αντιμετωπίζει ο νεολαίος τα προβλήματα της πολιτισμικής κρίσης, εξαρτάται κυρίως από δύο παράγοντες: α) από την προσωπικότητα του ιδίου, και β) από το σύστημα αξιών της κοινωνίας. Ο πρώτος παράγοντας είναι αποτέλεσμα κυρίως της σχέσης του νέου με τους γονείς του, καθώς με την αποδοχή ή την απόρριψή τους αποτελούν το θετικό ή το διαλυτικό μοτίβο επάνω στο οποίο βασίζεται ολόκληρος ο ψυχισμός του. Το δεύτερο, το σύστημα αξιών, συνιστά το σύνολο των ηθικών αρχών που διέπει την κοινωνία. Εάν η τελευταία λειτουργεί με τις αρχές του σεβασμού της προσωπικότητας και της απόδοσης δικαιοσύνης, αυτές αντανακλώνται στην παιδεία της, και από εκεί στην ομάδα και το άτομο. Δια της παιδείας, επομένως, οι αξίες της κοινωνίας εξακτινώνονται σε κάθε τομέα της κοινωνικής ζωής. Ποιός είναι, όμως, ο ορισμός της ‘παραβατικότητας’; Ποια είναι τα χαρακτηριστικά ειδικά της ‘εφηβικής παραβατικότητας’ και ποια φαινόμενα την επηρεάζουν; Πώς λειτουργεί το γονεϊκό πρότυπο, την ανάγκη αποκήρυξης του οποίου έχει ο νέος, προκειμένου να επιδιώξει την αυτονομία του; Πόσο έντονη είναι η δραματοποίηση (acting-out) στον έφηβο, από ποια συναισθήματα και ανάγκες κατακλύζεται, και πιο ρόλο ελέγχου μπορεί να διαδραματίσει το εφηβικό «εγώ»; (Georges Mauco (1948), De l'inconscient à l'âme enfantine: La psychologie de l'enfant dans ses rapports avec la psychologie de l'inconscientReliure inconnue). Το ίδιο ισχύει και για τις αθλητικές δραστηριότητες, υπό τον όρο οτι δεν αναπαράγουν ένα αυστηρό σύστημα επιλογής και κατάταξης, αλλά εκεί αναγνωρίζεται κάθε είδους προσφορά. Η εφαρμογή της ολυμπιακής παιδείας, προϋποθέτει, εν προκειμένω, την υιοθέτηση εκ μέρους της πολιτείας μιας νέας αθλητικής ιδεολογίας, η οποία μεταξύ άλλων σημαίνει: Την αναγνώριση της μοναδικότητας του ατόμου. Την αξιοποίηση του ψυχαγωγικού και παιγνιώδους χαρακτήρα του αθλητισμού. Τον περιορισμό του κατακερματισμού του χρόνου των μαθητών. Τη βελτίωση των αθλητικών υποδομών, ώστε να μπορεί να δημιουργηθεί η αίσθηση της ομαδικότητας και της κοινότητας. Κυρίως, όμως, την αλλαγή νοοτροπίας, ώστε ν’ απαλλαγεί ο αθλητισμός από τον ψυχαναγκασμό της πρωτιάς ή την περιφρόνηση του ηττημένου, στοχεύοντας στην αποκατάσταση μιας επαφής με τη φύση, το σώμα του και την ομάδα. Στόχος της εργασίας αυτής είναι να συνοψίσει και να παρουσιάσει τα ευρήματα των πιο πρόσφατων μετα-αναλύσεων και ανασκοπήσεων για την αποτελεσματικότητα των προληπτικών και παρεμβατικών προγραμμάτων κατά του σχολικού εκφοβισμού. Γίνονται αναφορές στα ερευνητικά σχέδια με τα οποία έχει αξιολογηθεί η αποτελεσματικότητα των προγραμμάτων, καθώς και στους τρόπους αξιολόγησης του εκφοβισμού και της θυματοποίησης στα προγράμματα αυτά. Με δεδομένη την ελάχιστη έως μέτρια επιτυχία των περισσότερων παρεμβάσεων, διατυπώνονται ερμηνείες για την περιορισμένη αυτή αποτελεσματικότητα. Η ερευνητικά τεκμηριωμένη γνώση των αρχών, των συστατικών και των επιπέδων παρέμβασης που επιφέρουν τη μεγαλύτερη μείωση του σχολικού εκφοβισμού είναι απολύτως απαραίτητη για τη διαμόρφωση της αντι-εκφοβιστικής πολιτικής και στην Ελλάδα.

This paper presents some of the most important known evidence up to this day, proving the defining British interference in the case of the Pogrom in Istanbul-Constantinople (Events of September 1955) and how these tragic events completely destroyed Hellenism of Constantinople are connected to the British colonial interests in Middle East. The theoretical methodological is based on the geopolitical analysis and, in particular, on the model proposed by the Anglo-Saxon Geographers - Geopoliticians Sir Halford Mackinder (1861-1947, School of Geography-London School of Economics) and especially in its elaborated form presented in 1944 by the American Professor of Yale, Nicolas Spykman (1893-1943, Yale Institute for International Studies, Yale University - USA). Therefore, this paper supports the theoretical hypothesis of the desire to preserve Rimland on the part of Britain and explains, based on the same theoretical model, the final approach of the USA towards the British stances. Naturally, the aforementioned model explains the role of Turkey. The presence of the secret paramilitary networks “Stay Behind”, known as Gladio also validates and fully supports the writer’s hypothesis.

Karlovassi basin area has been studied for long period by the team from University of Athens. This area suffers from frequent floods which frequency even raised after large area of forests in Kerketeas Mountain area was burned down in year 2000. In recent period the area has been studied from the point of view of flood risk. High volume of data was collected and processed as an input to the flood risk model. The model was built using Arc Hydro toolset in ArcGIS environment (Maidment, 2002). Based on this model a GIS based flood risk map was created. In order to get more detail description of rainfall-runoff process a decision has been made to apply hydrologic model which works with more detail description of runoff process. For these purposes fully HEC-1 model (Hydrologic Engineering Center, 1998) was chosen. HEC-1 describes runoff process with semi-distributed approach. Results for modeling of precipitation event from November 2001 are presented here.

The fragmented nature of physical education and sport in European schools is a cause in the decline in interest of youth sport. XIII OLYMPIC CONGRESS, Contributions, International Olympic Committee, Copenhagen, pp. 634-635.  Sport is not an integral part of mainstream education in most European schools and as a result is inadequate as an education tool. Gymnastics for example, is an activity that is practically devoid of pedagogical content and is reduced to being a secondary activity that is not connected to the overall educational process. The modern school system does not have real substance and absorbs the students’ leisure time through the implementation of a static curriculum. How can this situation be changed? In what way can the Olympic family intervene in a case which seems to be the sole responsibility of governments? And how can this intervention be effective? There is much more that needs to be done in this area.

A combined study of extant nannoflora (calcareous nannoplankton/coccolithophores) and microfauna (ostracods, benthic foraminifera) was conducted in summer period between 2001 and 2003 at Kastro and Korthi gulfs, Andros Island (central Aegean Sea). The results of our study showed that the studied three groups can provide evidence of stress on the natural assemblages and therefore can be used as proxies of declining coastal environments. In particular, the existence of coccolithophore communities with low species diversities, high dominance values and the predominance of Emiliania huxleyi with malformed coccoliths indicate unstable environmental conditions. The environmental stress in ostracod assemblages is mainly proved by the decreasing abundances of Xestoleberis spp. specimens. The response of benthic foraminifers was demonstrated by the increase of foraminiferal tests with morphological abnormalities and the replacement of Amphistegina lobifera – an environmental health proxy- by miliolids and small rotalliid forms.

Volos, a coastal medium-sized city in the region of Thessaly and extended along the northern part of the Pagassitikos Gulf at the eastern seaboard of Central Greece, is among the cities which suffer from the air pollution in Greece. The case of Volos is an interesting example, where in the last decades the urbanization and the increased industrialization have resulted in the degradation of the air quality in the area. Meteorological factors play an important role in the air pollution development, while the complex topography of Volos exacerbates air pollution episodes. In this study, the relationships between PM10 (particulate matter with diameter less than 10 ΞΌm) and meteorological parameters such as wind speed, relative humidity and air temperature have been analyzed from 2005 to 2007 on the basis of 24-hour continuous measurements. According to the results obtained from the multiple linear regression analysis, there is a strong relation between meteorological parameters and the particulate matter concentrations in Volos city. Moreover, the calculation of the 72-hour air mass back trajectories during (eight) Saharan dust events, took place within the examined period, was carried out by applying the HYSPLIT 4 model of Air Resources Laboratory of NOAA for three different levels: 500, 1500 and 4000 m (a.m.s.1.). It is worthy to remark the high PM 10 values observed, indicating the contribution of such natural events in exacerbating the air quality in the area of Volos. Β© 2009 American Institute of Physics.

Από τα μέσα της δεκαετίας του 20΄ όλοι οι γηγενείς ελληνικοί θίασοι της Αμερικής συμπεριλαμβάνουν στο δραματολόγιο τους οπερέτες, κωμικές ή δραματικές. Την ίδια περίοδο στις αθηναϊκές σκηνές το ελαφρό θέατρο εκπροσωπείται από δεκάδες θιάσους και παράλληλα διώκεται από τους εκπροσώπους του «σοβαρού» θεάτρου. Αντίθετα στην Αμερική δεν προκύπτει διαμάχη και μάλιστα ακόμα και οι σοσιαλιστικοί θίασοι εντάσσουν στο ρεπερτόριο τους την οπερέτα. Οι θίασοι εμφανίζονται ευέλικτοι και εύκολα μεταπηδούν από το «ελαφρό» στο «σοβαρό» θέατρο, προσπαθώντας να ικανοποιήσουν το ευρύτερο κοινό. Τα έργα κοινωνικοπολιτικού προβληματισμού και «θεάτρου των ιδεών» δεν έβρισκαν απήχηση στην ομογένεια του χαμηλού μορφωτικού επιπέδου, κυρίως την δεκαετία του 1930. Επίσης τα περισσότερα δράματα των Ελλήνων δραματουργών πρόβαλαν διαρκώς το μοντέλο της συμβατικής αστικής οικογένειας προκαλώντας δυσαρέσκεια. Παράλληλα, η οικονομική ανέλιξη των μεταναστών απομάκρυνε το κοινό από τα «σοβαρά» έργα και απαιτούσε το νέο θεατρικό είδος να μην έχει διδακτικό χαρακτήρα και να αποσκοπά στην αβίαστη τέρψη του κοινού μέσω της μουσικής. Τα έργα των Νικόλαου Χατζηαποστόλου και Θεόφραστου Σακελλαρίδη γνώρισαν θριαμβευτική επιτυχία και κυριάρχησαν στις ελληνοαμερικανικές σκηνές. Ωστόσο η παραστατική παραγωγή των Ελλήνων καλλιτεχνών δεν ήταν δυνατόν να καλύψει τις ανάγκες των θιάσων και γι’ αυτό επιστρατεύτηκαν οι ξένες οπερέτες, κυρίως οι γαλλικές, βιεννέζικες και γερμανικές. Η μόδα της ελληνικής οπερέτας θα κρατήσει στην Αμερική έως τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1930.

The aim of the lab was to combine the theory of orthophony science with the empirical art of theatre education, just as it should be taught in primary education. Blending the science of phonetics and theatrical art constitutes an attractive methodology for the group to which it is addressed (age of reference 8-12 years old). The lab particularly focused on the practice –by means of theatrical games- of the theoretical base of Orthophony. Breathing: Benefits and ways of achieving breathing through the diaphragm. Vocalization: Structure and practice of phonetic organs, which are the organs that produce the sound. Articulation: Proper formation of phonemes and their practice. Those participating in the lab had the opportunity to learn the principles of Orthophony first on a theoretical level and then, on an empirical one; the final stage aimed at creating collective exercises, and its ulterior purpose was to apply them at school.

The present contribution examines the various geomorphological, sedimentological and coastal hydrodymamic conditions that are related to the present erosive situation along the broader coastal area of the N/NW coast of Samos Island. The extended erosion, particularly evident during the past 2-3 decades, is attributed to the rise of sea level (>10 cm over the past 100 years according to IPCC report of 2007) in conjunction with the incoming relatively high wave energy, which favouring the offshore transfer of fine-grained beach material. In addition, the various man-made constructions either inhibit the terrigenous sediment fluxes to reach the coast and/or by altering coastal hydrodynamics contribute to erosion. Finally, the existed defence constructions seem to have served only to the stabilisation of the coastline and not to its natural recovery.

As flash flood events are becoming more frequent, the development of flood estimation methods for areas with limited or lack of data has attracted the interest of many scientists. The aim of the present paper is to develop a GIS based methodology in order to study the flood risk in Karlovassi basin. The annual probability of a flood event is relatively high at Karlovassi area (Samos Island – Greece). Especially, after the forest fires that took place in the summer of 2000, during which 90.000 hectares were burnt in Kerketeas Mountain, the phenomenon has become more intense. Primary data were collected from maps, literature, aerial photos and field work. The collected information data were analyzed through the use of the software ArcGIS in order to generate the appropriate background for the formation of the flood risk model. All the input parameters were weighted and the model was calibrated in situ through field work. The proposed methodology and the preliminary results, as exported for the Karlovassi area, prove the suitability of GIS-based methods in the creation of flood risk maps.

Η παρούσα δημοσίευση αποτελεί την εισήγηση στο Θεολογικό Σεμινάριο που πραγματοποιήθηκε στην Λευκωσία στην  Κύπρο τον Μάιο του 2009 και αποτελεί πρωτότυπη προσπάθεια για τη διατύπωση θεολογικής άποψης για τον προγεννητικό έλεγχο και την προεμφυτευτική διάγνωση των εμβρύων. Στο τέλος της εισήγησης, που δημοσιεύθηκε στον τόμο των πρακτικών, παρουσιάζονται  πραγματικές περιπτώσεις αντιμετώπισης διαγνώσεων προγεννητικού ελέγχου από γονείς, οι οποίες συγκίνησαν και προβλημάτισαν το πολυπληθές κοινό στην αίθουσα του Μακαρίου β’ της Ιεράς Αρχιεπισκοπής Κύπρου, όπου πραγματοποιήθηκε η εισήγηση.

The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of bullying/victimization during preadolescence and early adolescence in Greece, in relation to age and gender. Participants were 655 fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth graders from Athenian schools. They completed the Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (Olweus, 2006). Data showed a high prevalence of bullying and victimization, with verbal bullying and social exclusion as the most frequent forms. Self-reported victimization decreased with age, with the exception of electronic victimization which increased, whereas self-reported verbal, sexual, and electronic bullying increased with age. Boys preferred verbal, physical, racial, sexual, and electronic bullying significantly more than girls. More boys felt bullied for racial reasons than girls, whereas girls felt more sexually victimized than boys. Results are discussed in the framework of the existing literature on bullying and victimization, and some implications for interventions are presented.

The purpose of the present study was to examine children’s loneliness and social dissatisfaction in relation to social support in school, that is, personal and academic support by teachers and classmates. Participants were 221 fifth- and sixth-grade students from primary schools in Athens, Greece. They completed the Loneliness and Social Dissatisfaction Scale (Greek version; Galanaki & Kalantzi-Azizi, 1999) and the Social Support subscales of the Classroom Life Measure (Johnson, Johnson, Buckman, & Scott-Richards, 1985). Results showed high feelings of loneliness and social dissatisfaction in the school, both of which were significantly associated only with personal support from classmates. The associations were stronger for sixth-grade students and girls. Results are discussed in light of the importance of interpersonal relations for the emergence of loneliness during late childhood. Some suggestions for educational practice are also made.

This study presents results of ambient noise measurements carried out in 78locations in the town of Lefkada. The horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios of ambient noise were used to approximate the fundamental resonance frequencies of the subsurface and their associated amplitudes. Summarizing the experiences of different authors with respect to ambient vibration processing, we selected transient free time windows for further analysis. Additionally, we calculated the site responses with respect to the reference site and compared the results with those obtained from the H/V technique. The fundamental frequency and the corresponding amplification factor were calculated for each site. Under the assumption that the H/V spectral ratios of ambient noise coincide with the amplification levels at the dominant frequency of the site response functions, the fundamental frequencies (f0) and amplification factors (A0) were compiled on ARC-INFO GIS software and corresponding maps were developed.

The increasing worldwide apprehension of groundwater contamination problems generated the concept of groundwater vulnerability, which is based on the theory that the natural environment can offer some degree of protection to groundwater, against the natural and human impacts,especially considering, contaminants entering the subsurface environment. Although there are several methods related to the vulnerability risk assessment and mapping for porous and karstic media, there is no relative method concerning the discontinuous media. Studying groundwatervulnerability on the smaller islands of the Aegean Sea is important, because water supplies are few and avoiding contaminants entering the groundwater is vital. Tinos Island has significant water tables, as far as quantity and quality is concerned. The selected study area is theFalatados-Livada drainage system, which is developed along the lithological contact of granites and schists. In order to assess groundwater intrinsic vulnerability, a number of effective factors were used. These factors were used as input variables of the risk model, from which derived theoutput variable that lead to the production of the groundwater intrinsic vulnerability risk map.

La présente étude analyse les rapports de Jacques Lacarrière avec l’art grec. Sa première partie, qui s’appuie sur sa préface de L’érotisme sculpté (2005) et sur les entrées de son Dictionnaire amoureux de la Grèce (2001) ainsi que sur sa communication sur la Corè de Samos (2001) traite de sa perception de la sculpture grecque ancienne. Lacarrière ne s’est pas limité à l’analyse esthétique de l’art de la Grèce ancienne, mais a voulu tracer son évolution. La deuxième partie notre article étudie sa perception de l’oeuvre des artistes grecs contemporains (Alkis Pierrakos, Yannis Tsarouchis, Alecos Fassianos). L’écrivain, qui a souvent présenté les oeuvres des artistes grecs dans le cadre d’expositions individuelles et collectives présentées dans des galeries et musées grecs et français, était influencé par leur esthétique, mise en lumière dans ses écrits.

The city planning of Heraklion in Crete included the construction of the new Courthouse building at the eastern part of the town where several active fault have been mapped during an earlier microzonation study. The significance of the new building required detailed studies for the exact tracing of the faults and the period of their latest activation. The proposed methodology included trenching across the fault traces which are either controlling a morphological discontinuity or covered by human activities. Sampling for radiocarbon and optical luminance dating was carried out aiming for the exact age of the ruptured strata by the active faults. The combination of the described methodologies resulted the modification of the city plan, as constructions were designed to be built on the fault trace.

This paper presents a new shear velocity and attenuation model for the lower crust and litho-sphere of the Aegean region, obtained by inversion of broadband surface-wave phase veloci-ties and attenuation coefficients. We have two main motivations for conducting this study. First, knowledge of the regional structure of the Aegean lithosphere is fundamental for understanding the tectonic framework and mantle dynamics, posing constraints on possible models of deformation and evolution. Second, the exponential dependence of Q with temperature implies that attenuation tomography could explain better hot regions (high attenuation) than elastic tomography. Furthermore, elastic velocity is highly influenced by the constitution of the medium. In case of strong lateral Q variations, elastic parameters also vary. Hence, it is important to combine results of elastic and anelastic tomography. Apparently, the high rates of deformation in the Aegean constitute this region particularly interesting in this perspective.

Οι θέσεις των Ρωμαιοκαθολικών, προτεσταντών, όσο και της ιουδαϊκής και μουσουλμανικής θρησκείας για την τεκνογονία στο θεσμό του γάμου αποτελούν πρωτότυπο έργο και βασίζονται σε δημοσιευμένα κείμενα που βρίσκονται είτε σε έντυπη μορφή είτε στο διαδίκτυο.

Οἱ δύο θεμελιωτὲς τῆς ἀγγλοσαξωνικῆς σχολῆς τῆς γεωπολιτικῆς, οἱ γεωγράφοι Sir Halford Mackinder (1861-1947) καὶ Nicholas J. Spykman (1893-1943) καὶ τὰ ἀντίστοιχα γεωστρατηγικά τους Ὑποδείγματα ἔχουν ἀσφαλῶς ἔντονες ἐπιρροὲς ἀπὸ τὶς διπλωματικὲς πραγματικότητες τοῦ ΙΘ΄ αἰῶνος. Οἱ δύο γεωγράφοι κατέγραψαν κάθε φυσικο-γεωγραφικὸ καὶ οἰκονομικο-γεωγραφικὸ παράγοντα τῆς Εὐρασίας, στὴν ὁποίαν περιλαμβάνονται καὶ τὰ Βαλκάνια. Η παρούσα εισήγηση αναφέρεται στους Βαλκανικούς Πολέμους τοῦ 1912-13 ὡς περιπτωσιολογικὴ μελέτη στὰ Γεωπολιτικὰ καὶ Γεωστρατηγικὰ Ὑποδείγματα τῶν Sir Halford Mackinder καὶ Nicholas Spykman.

Τὸ παρὸν κείμενον, χρησιμοποιῶντας τὴν μεθοδολογία τῆς Συστημικῆς Γεωπολιτικῆς Ἀναλύσεως (Systemic Geopolitical Analysis), προσεγγίζει τὸ ζήτημα τῶν δυνατοτήτων σταθεροποιήσεως τοῦ γεωστρατηγικοῦ περιβάλλοντος τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ θεωρῶντας ὅτι ἡ διανυομένη συγκυρία παρουσιάζει ἰδιαίτερη εὐπάθεια ἀναφορικῶς πρὸς τὴν βελτίωση τῆς σταθερότητος στὸ κομβικὸ αὐτὸ σημεῖο γιὰ τὶς γεωστρατηγικὲς ἰσορροπίες τῆς Μέσης Ἀνατολῆς. Στὸ παρὸν κείμενο ὁρίζονται τὰ κατωτέρω τρία, γεωστρατηγικῆς φύσεως καὶ μέσου Συστημικοῦ ἐπιπέδου1 δεδομένα, ἀλλὰ μὲ τὰ ποιοτικὰ χαρακτηριστικὰ τῆς προ-Ὀμπάμα ἐποχῆς: i) τοῦ διατηρουμένου συγκρουσιακοῦ κλίματος μεταξὺ PKK καὶ τουρκικῶν στρατευμάτων στὴν Ν/Α Τουρκία καὶ στὸ βόρειο Ἰρὰκ μὲ τὶς ἐπακόλουθες τουρκικὲς ἐπιθέσεις, ii) τῆς διαφαινομένης ἀσταθείας στὸν νότιο Λίβανο, ὅπου ἡ ἀνάμιξις τῆς ∆αμασκοῦ προκαλεῖ ἀντιδράσεις ἀπὸ πλευρᾶς της χειραφετημένης πλέον, καὶ μὲ ὑψηλὸν κῦρος στοὺς σηιτικοὺς πληθυσμοὺς τῆς χώρας, Χεζμπαλᾶ. Τὰ γεγονότα αὐτὰ δὲν ἐπιτρέπουν τὴν σταθεροποίηση τῶν ὅποιων θετικῶν ὑπερσυστημικῶν καὶ ἐνδοσυστημικῶν πολιτικο-οἰκονομικῶν συντελεστῶν τῆς παρούσης συγκυρίας καὶ iii) τῆς ὑπαρχούσης στασιμότητος στὴν δυναμικὴ τῆς Ἀναπόλεως (26-28 Νοεμβρίου 2007), λόγῳ τῆς ἀμφισήμου στάσεως τῆς ∆αμασκοῦ.

ualitative research conducted with specific focus groups in areas representative of Greece - urban, industrial and agricultural populations, confirms the gender impact factor on digital illiteracy. A large part of the population in Greek society today is displaying technophobia, women in particular, as is the case internationally. Gender-constrained attitudes against science and technology are formulated very early. The compatibility of private life and career is essentially a female problem, a factor that is clearly evident in the latest EU average employment quota for women which is marked by a decrease of 14.3 percent, in contrast to the 5.6 percent increase in the employment quota for men. The situation is even worse in the science and technology fields. Alarming are the results of the latest study of the EU-Commission ‘She Figures 2006’, according to which women remain a minority among researchers in the EU. The first part of the study is based on questionnaires, group interviews and discourse analyses with specific focus group: (1) female and male university students, (2) female students, and (3) primary and secondary male and female school teachers. In the second unity, social theories and theoretical approaches are used to examine the multivariable inclusive vs. exclusionary factors that result in the ‘leaky pipeline’ and the ‘glass ceiling’, namely the digital divide, the under-representation of women in science and technology. The present contribution is dealing with the outcrops and the hydrogeological behaviour of the fractured rocks (mainly igneous, metamorphic and not karstified carbonate rocks, as they have been defined by the I.A.H Commission of the Hardrock Hydrogeology). The presentation starts with the description of the geotectonic regime of the Hellenic territory into the adopted different geotectoniczones. For each zone a general lithological and structural description is attempted accompanied by the description of the main aquifers and the general directions of the groundwater flow related to the formation of the rock mass fractures. Finally, an analytical description of some case studies is presented.

Korissia lagoon located in the southwest end of Corfu separated from the open Ionian Sea by a narrow (<250 m) stip of land. It has a surface of 4,2 km2 and depths <2m, communicating with the sea via an artificial-dredged channel. The bed of the lagoon consists of fine-grainned sediment (sandy silt – silty sand). Its drainage basin covers an area of 16 km2 and is characterized by low relief. It receives the freshwater inputs form a low relief (maximum elevation 319 m) of the drainage basin. The influx of fresh water is surficial includes also an underground flow, as indicated by the presence of a phreatic aquifer and a large number of wells at its nearby surrounding area. The water budget of the lagoon is characterised by a wet (October-March) and a dry (April-September) period. During the wet period the incoming volume of fresh water (5,3x106 m3 ) is much larger than its total volume (2,5 x 106 m3 ); this implies an outflow of lagoonal waters whilst lagoonal waters are characterised by relatively lower salinity values (<20 ppt) compare to those of the Ionian Sea (38 ppt). In contrast, during the dry period, the fresh water influx (1,2 x106 m3 ) is smaller than the volume of the lagoon; this induces an influx of sea water, which in association with the high levels of evaporation moduled hyper-saline (>50 ppt) hydrologic conditions within the lagoonal basin.

Greek is assumed to be particularly conservative in terms of its verbal system, which is supposed to have always been organised on the basis of the grammatical category of aspect. This paper claims that, on the contrary, a major change has occurred between the early stages, as seen in the Homeric poems, and Modern Greek. Originally, the three stems of the verb represented the three main types of Aktionsart: states (Perfect), telic activities (Aorist) and atelic activities (Present). Through a gradual grammaticalization process the Aorist and Present stems came to express the binary aspectual distinction of perfectivity and imperfectivity, a change that explains the loss of the third stem. Christidis’s astute observations about the role of ideological constructs in the perception of language change explain the failure of scholars to notice this rather striking difference between the ancient and the modern system. 

During November 2004 – June 2005 a digital seismological network was deployed in the eastern part of central Greek mainland, in an area seismically active in the 20th century, particularly in the decade of fifties. The strongest earthquake (M=7.0) occurred in 1954, while the last strong one in 1980 (M=6.5). In total 18 Reftek digital loggers (both 72A–07 and R–130) were installed assembled with fifteen guralp CMG40T broadband and three Le_1Hz seismometers. The average spacing between stations was of the order of 20 km to ensure earthquake depth accuracy. Local earthquakes with P– and S– arrivals at four or more stations were located using HYPOINVERSE computer program. Data analysis using the Double Difference technique did not changeconsiderably the spatial distribution of the earthquake foci. The best–recorded earthquakes were used to define a reasonable crustal structure. Lateral variations of the crustal model taken into account, calculating time delays for each station. By this way, earthquakes inside the network or close to its boundaries were located with high accuracy in both the epicenter and focal depth. In addition, focal mechanisms of earthquakes with proper azimuthal coverage were computed. Seismicity covers most of the area and is distributed mainly in clusters along active structures. A magnitude M=3.9 earthquake, was the largest local one recorded by this network (5 December 2004, 17:58 UTC), close to the focal area of the 1980 strong earthquake. Several cross sectionsstriking normal to the trend of the clusters of the epicenters reveal the geometry of the active structures as well as the width of the seismogenic layer. Most of the focal mechanisms exhibit normal faulting and were used along with the microseismicity foci in the cross sections for the definition of the properties of the faults that activated during the experiment.

A first approach on the reconstruction of the climate history of SE Aegean Sea during the last 18kyrs is recorded in the 400cm-long high sedimentation NS14 core collected in the vicinity of Nisyros Island. The results concerning the sea surface conditions during late Pleistocene-Holocene are acquainted through multi-proxy analyses of algal and organic biomarkers and comparison with pollen assemblages, defining eight paleoenvironmental units that imply their response to climatic changes.

Rhythmic Gymnastics has been established as an exclusively female sport. Current issues and questions repeatedly arise concerning women´s participation in all sports, namely access into all traditionally male dominated sports, whereas they have not been developed in reference to the participation of men in rhythmic gymnastics. The purpose of this study is to explore and investigate these gender issues and present the views and perceptions of rhythmic gymnastics´ internal environment (structural elements: scoring of evaluations codes, judges, etc) as well those of the external environment (audiences, journalists, etc) concerning a) the imminent participation on men in rhythmic gymnastics, b) rules and regulations pertaining to the female gymnast's appearance. In this study 299 individuals from around the world, representing different social groups (journalists, trainers/coaches, parents, etc), responded to a closed questionnaire during an international championship. The results showed that the overwhelming majority (76.5%) of the responds favor the participation of men in rhythmic gymnastics. Additionally, the results reveal the necessity for redefinition, in other words that the restrictive character of the regulations concerning the appearance of female gymnasts must be redefined, as well as the possibility, prospect or opportunity for access to men, particularly in the framework of recent issues concerning gender in sports.

The widespread use of the GIS tools, besides the simple mapping of areas also enabled the visualization of various spatially referenced parameters for earth sciences. Parameters such as the slope or the drainage density of an area can be calculated with the GIS tools and can be depicted in maps. In many environmental problems though, the involved variables present inexact knowledge and spatial uncertainty. This is a problem appear also when we treat erosional processes, where a number of the system input variables are of fuzzy nature, such as the erodibility, the topography’s gradient, the drainage density and the vegetation - land use. The fuzzy nature of these physical parameters, if it is to be approached by mapping tools, requires the use of special methods that will assure that the geographicaldistribution of the results will be accurate. Dealing with such uncertainties and the visualization methodologies that should follow them, is the ultimate aim of this paper. In the approach that is described here, MapInfo GIS software and Matlab are used in combination to study the erosional processes on a volcanic landscape, such us Thira Island, Greece. Mapinfo software was used for the creation of the input parameters. The management of the database was created during the digitization and the creation of the input parameters and finally for the rendering of the geographical output of the study in the form of thematic maps. Matlab software wasused for the calculations within the different parameters and the gradient leveling that were applied to the logical results. The transformation of the input variables to the output ones (erosion risk) was achieved by formulating a number of fuzzy logical rules. The final step of these processes is the development of the thematic maps.Thira Island has been chosen for this case study, because its volcanic landscape and its susceptibility to erosional phenomena appeals great scientific interest and requires the introduction of different approaches for the solution of the natural problems. Besides, the output of this study can constitute an important tool for the local authorities of the island.

Using a given data set (the Kefallinia erosion data) with only 3 dimensions and with fractal correlation dimension rGP ¼ 1:60, we wanted to see, what really by the kernel methods is provided.We have used Gaussian kernels with various kernel width ¾. In particular we wanted to ¯nd out, whether the GDA (Generalized Discrimination Analysis) as proposed by Baudat and Anouar (2000), permits to distinguish better the high, medium and low erosion classes as compared to theclassical Fisherian discriminant analysis. The general result is that the GDA yields discriminant variates permitting for better differentiation among groups, however the calculations are more lengthy.

Concerning the present situation we must bear into mind the following: A) No external mediation can replace the interested parties in a recommencement of talks for a jointly accepted solution in the Cyprus Issue. B) The Turkish occupation troops must withdraw from the Island shortly and certainly before the implementation of the new solution. C) The last wave of Turkish settlers must return to Turkish territories, where it originally came from. D) The complete demilitarization of the Island and its accession to NATO, as the unique reliable figure of regional and international security. This means that Ankara can no longer promote claims of “insecurity” for the Turkish population of the Island. Furthermore it means that the “Sovereign British Bases” have no place in Cyprus. E) In order for all this to be achieved, the government of Athens must not pressure in any way the legitimate Government of the Republic of Cyprus of Mr. Tassos Papadopoulos and it must allow as it has already done in the case or the April 4th Referendum, the Cypriot people to express freely and without bias its opinion. The line of action adopted by Mr. Karamanlis and Mr. Molyviatis in this case must be continued. On the other hand, the talks with the legitimate Cypriot government of the now European Republic of Cyprus for its accession to NATO must begin. This will constitute the most important key-point of the century-old Cyprus Issue.

A short shear (SH) wave profile was collected as a part of a wider experiment involving P- and S-wave reflection and refraction measurements for further processing. The purpose of the experiment was to examine the efficiency of ultra shallow bedrock surface by SH reflection imaging commonly implemented in engineering applications. The original SH data suffer from direct, refracted, guided and surface waves interference. In some Common Shot Gathers the presence of significant P wave energy is also obvious, despite the use of special designed SH-wave detectors and the use of a pure horizontal energy source, i.e. a hydraulic seismic generator device. We tested the efficiency of successive processing steps focusing on multiple energy attenuation, followed by the implementation of a technique for reducing the source generated noise, both based on forward and reverse linear and parabolic Radon transformations. The proposed scheme was applied on the data collected along a 49-shot records SH wave reflection profile.

The surface waves method was used in this case study as an alternative and efficient tool for geological and geotechnical investigation. The site is located at Glyfada, Athens where neogene formations, mainly composed by clayish layers with intercalations of conglomerates, are present. The results were compared with data from geotechnical investigation and seismic refraction data.

Στην εργασία αυτή ανασκοπούνται κριτικά τα ευρήματα της διεθνούς βιβλιογραφίας για την πρόληψη και αντιμετώπιση της μοναξιάς του παιδιού και του εφήβου, ιδίως στο σχολικό πλαίσιο. Μέχρι σήμερα, δεν υπάρχει μια τέτοια ανασκόπηση, ο αριθμός των σχετικών ερευνών είναι μικρός και δεν έχει ελεγχθεί εμπειρικά η αποτελεσματικότητα των αντίστοιχων σχολικών παρεμβάσεων. Ειδικότερα, αποσαφηνίζονται εννοιολογικά οι επιμέρους μορφές μοναξιάς και ανασκοπούνται ευρήματα για τη σχέση του εκπαιδευτικού με τη μοναξιά των μαθητών του και τις αντίστοιχες σχολικές παρεμβάσεις. Εντοπίζονται κενά και προτείνονται οδοί περαιτέρω ερευνητικής ενασχόλησης με το θέμα.

The elaboration of analytical microzoning studies involves a multidisciplinary approach comprising geological, geotechnical, seismological, geophysical and dynamic soil analysis data. In an attempt to incorporate the maximum available amount of information and in the view of the continuously expanding use of GIS, as a tool for analyzing and integrating data, a new software environment called AUTOSEISMO-GEOTECH has been developed for handling these multi-parameter data. This user friendly package is presently implemented for the cities of Heraklion (Crete island) and Thiva (province of Beotia) in Greece.

In this paper we are studying the erosional procedures on the basis of Geographical InformationSystems (GIS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods. More precisely we use fuzzy logic rules toestimate the erosion risk index for the surface rocks and a model of neural networks to spatially categorisethe erosion risk index. The described procedure is applied at Zakynthos island, where acomplete spatial database already exists.

Deep seismic and gravity measurements were conducted along profiles in CW Attica to investigate the subsurface structure of the area that suffered heavy damages after the Mw=5.9 of September, 7th 1999 earthquake. Within the framework of this investigation the following tasks were accomplished: a) Three long seismic lines of about 10km each, two of which in the epicentral area of Thriassion plain (west part of Athens) and one along the Parnitha Mtn-Penteli Mtn axis (central part of Athens) and b) eight gravity profiles, comprising 338 gravity measurements, four of which in the Thriassion plain, three in the meizoseismal area of Petroupoli, Aharnes and Thrakomacedones (east of Parnitha Mtn) and one along the Parnitha Mtn-Penteli Mtn axis.

Ἡ ἠθικὴ πλευρὰ τοῦ ζητήματος, ὅπως καὶ τὸ ἀνακῦψαν ζήτημα τοῦ σεβασμοῦ τῶν διεθνῶν θεσμῶν καὶ τῆς διεθνοῦς νομιμότητας ἀπὸ πλευρᾶς τῆς βρετανο-ἀμερικανικῆς συμμαχίας ἔχει νομίζομε ἀναλυθεῖ καὶ ἀπαντηθεῖ καὶ μάλιστα ἐντόνως ἀπὸ τοὺς λαοὺς ὅλου τοῦ κόσμου καὶ βεβαίως καὶ ἀπὸ τὸν ἑλληνικὸ λαὸ σύσσωμο. Benthic foraminifera widespread occurrence, numerical abundance and high fossilization potential rank them among the most powerful biological tools to reconstruct paleoenvironments. Their diversity and composition by suborder sometimes provide a general indication of the past environment, but the benthic taxonomic composition and recognition of faunal assemblages allow more detailed assessments of water depth, intertidal level, salinity, exposure to water turbulence, bottom oxygen concentrations, water temperature and carbon flux. The distribution of benthic foraminifera group is determined, and an analysis of the data is made in an effort to isolate and identify  important relationships between the distribution of organisms studied and the parameters of the physical environment. Benthic Foraminifera of the Upper Pliocene Tsoutsouras section (southern Crete) are analysed in order to investigate their relationship with paleodepth, sediment grain size and climatic changes. This paper encompasses the first detailed quantitative paleoenvironmental analysis based on benthic foraminifera from this area. Q-mode analysis revealed the existence of three associations. A. beccarii-Miliolids association corresponds to a rather shallow marine environment with vegetation in the neighbourhood. A. planorbis-Agglutinants is characterized by a decline in the salinity and the existence of moderate environmental stress which is associated by oxygen depletion and increase of primary productivity. In the upper part of the section V.bradyana – C. carinata association represents theestablishment of a restricted environment with abundant nutrient, where organic matter accumulates and infaunal opportunistic species capable of surviving in stressed conditions dominate.

A. beccarii-Miliolids association corresponds to a rather shallow marine environment with vegetation in the neighbourhood. A. planorbis-Agglutinants is characterized by a decline in the salinity and the existence of moderate environmental stress which is associated by oxygen depletion and increase of primary productivity. In the upper part of the section V.bradyana – C. carinata association represents theestablishment of a restricted environment with abundant nutrient, where organic matter accumulates and infaunal opportunistic species capable of surviving in stressed conditions dominate.

Water samples for coccolithophorid analysis were collected in August 2001, from 8 stations along a transect in the gulf of Korthi (Andros Island, Aegean sea). Samples were collected from 0-120m water-depth. Holococcolithophorid absolute abundances usually range between 7.29x103 and 0.06x103 cells/l. The derived distribution patterns indicate that holococcolithophorids bearing holococcoliths with convex cover above the tube, may constitute a significant part of the summer flora in the uppermost photic zone of the coastal waters of Andros island, showing affinities to shallower environments.

We developed a multiple scattering method for the calculation of the frequency band structure of a phononic crystal consisting of non-overlapping elastic spheres arranged periodically in a host medium of different elastic properties. Using a variation of the same method we can also calculate, with the same ease and accuracy, the coefficients of transmission, reflection and absorption of elastic waves incident on a slab of the material of finite thickness. The elastic coefficients of the spheres and/or the host medium can be complex and frequency dependent. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the method by applying it to specific examples.

Using a coherent-potential approximation, in conjunction with the on-shell method we developed for the study of photonic crystals, we study the effect of moderate disorder on light absorption by composite materials consisting of plasma spheres embedded in a host dielectric medium. We analyze our results by reference to the properties of a single sphere and to those of an infinite crystal. We find, in particular, that the absorption of light by a thin slab (a two-dimensional array of plasma spheres) is affected more strongly by disorder, in comparison to the absorbance of thick slabs consisting of many layers of spheres.

Τα θεμέλια της γεωπολιτικής, ως σύγχρονης γεωγραφικής ἀναλυτικής μεθόδου, ἐτέθησαν απὸ τον γεωγράφο, Friedrich Ratzel. Το παρόν, πραγματεύεται τη γερμανική γεωγραφία και τη γέννηση της γεωπολιτικής, ως γεωγραφικής αναλυτικής μεθόδου.

We review first-principles calculations of the size effect in dilute transition-metal alloys. The calculations apply local density functional theory and a Green's function method based on the KKR multiple-scattering formalism. In each cell, the full anisotropic potential in included and the forces on the atoms are calculated by the Hellmann-Feynman theorem. The method is applied to predict the atomic positions around d+sp impurities in Cu and Al. The results compare favorably with experimental data from extended X-ray-absorption-fine-structure and lattice-parameter measurements.

Στα Πρακτικά δημοσιεύεται η εισήγηση στο συνέδριο που απευθυνόταν κυρίως σε φιλοσόφους και ιατρούς απ’ όλο τον κόσμο. Δύο χρόνια πριν από την υποβολή της διδακτορικής μας διατριβής, η παρούσα εισήγηση απετέλεσε καλή δοκιμή των απόψεων μας  για το θέμα της υποβοηθούμενης αναπαραγωγής από θεολογική άποψη, σε ακαδημαϊκό κοινό. Αρκετές από τις θέσεις και απόψεις της εισήγησης αυτής  συμπεριλήφθηκαν στη διδακτορική διατριβή.

Η εργασία διερευνά το νόημα της Ολυμπιακής νίκης, όπως αυτό απορρέει από τα κλασικά  κείμενα. Η νίκη στην κλασική αρχαιότητα αποτελεί ‘αρετή’, για  την  οποία ο νικητής δικαιούται τον έπαινο και τη δόξα. Η νίκη αποτελεί την απόδειξη της εύνοιας του θεού και έχει επομένως, διάσταση θεϊκή. Ταυτόχρονα αποτελεί την απόδειξη της εκπλήρωσης του ιδανικού της πόλης, της διάπλασης δηλαδή του τέλειου νέου. Η τελετή της στέψης και ο κώμος του νικητή που συνεχίζεται ως την επάνοδό του στην πατρίδα, θυμίζουν την αποθεωτική στέψη του αρχαίου βασιλιά που ενσάρκωσε τον “ενιαυτό δαίμονα’’ στην τοπική του μορφή. Το στεφάνι της στέψης αντίστοιχα εκφράζει την θρησκευτική και ηθική αξία του εξαγνισμού που μεταδίδεται στον αθλητή δια της νίκης. Η νίκη τον ανυψώνει σε επίπεδα θεϊκού ήρωα και τον μετατρέπει  σε  αντικείμενο λατρείας. Τα επίθετα που του αποδίδονται είναι δηλωτικά  της  θρησκευτικής  αξίας της νίκης και ταυτίζουν αυτήν με την ίδια την ευτυχία. Το νόημα της αγωνιστικής νίκης επομένως είναι η εξύψωση και μιας μορφής θεοποίηση του ήρωα–νικητή στην αρχαιότητα. Η νίκη φαίνεται επομένως πως είναι το ιερό Κέντρο, το κέντρο της λατρείας, η Εστία, η πεμπτουσία των αρχαίων αγώνων. Η έννοια της Νίκης μήπως συμπίπτει, όμως, με αυτήν του «υπείροχον έμμεναι» που κυριαρχεί στον κόσμο ιδεών του Ομήρου; Υπήρχε κάτι πριν το «υπείροχον»; Μήπως οι Ετρούσκοι ή οι Τυρρηνοί, μήπως οι Πρωτοέλληνες, ο Θησέας; Τι υπήρχε, άραγε, πριν το «υπείροχον»;  

Les développements actuels, après la démystification du rêve marxiste qui a eu lieu avec la chute du Mur de Berlin, l’effondrement de l’Empire Soviétique et le réveil des nationalismes régionaux, exigent de la part de la communauté internationale et de ses appareils de décision une analyse précise et attentive du nouveau paysage géopolitique. À mon avis, cette analyse doit se faire selon deux axes: a) Les évènements du XXe siècle qui ont mené à des crises et a des conflits ont souvent abouti à la « création de démons » qui ont été loin de contribuer à l’établissement du progrès et du développement au niveau international. b) D’autre part, ce totémisme politique a conduit les sociétés de la «guerre froide» à l’acceptation de «tabous» politiques qui ont fonctionné comme de facteurs d’équilibre de la terreur et de la suspicion: -équilibre qui a toutefois permis au mécanisme international, économique et politique de tourner dans le cadre d’un économie de plus en plus internationale avec de rythmes connus à l’avance même s’ils n’étaient pas excellents. -équilibre qui a aidé ne serait-ce qu’à l’établissement de conceptions culturelles nationalistes chez des nations comme celles de la mosaïque ethnique de l’URSS, qui, avant l’instauration du système soviétique et de la deconsécration de la métaphysique marxiste, étaient attelées au char de la métaphysique proprement dite. Celle-ci était tout à fait inadéquate comme base culturelle de sociétés qui désirent rattraper les réalisations dues aux progrès technologiques et à l’évolution politique et sociale. Les évaluations et /ou propositions des analystes dans le cas présent sont de trois types: i) Puisqu’ il n’y a pas de démons, il n’y a donc plus de causes des confrontations internationales, de conflits et de crises. Collaborons donc tous pour le bien de tous! ii) Hélas, il n’y plus de démons. Fabrique-on donc de nouveaux pour le bien de tous! iii) L’évolution en spirale d’histoire de la civilisation de l’homme a déjà commencé à parcourir une nouvelle démarche, supérieure, de son hélice: les anciens démons «a la forme bien définie et identifiable» commencent à céder la place à d’autres démons primaires, informes et mêmes non identifiables, qui prendront une forme et un contenu avec la manière dont nous le traiterons. Faisons donc attention à la manière de les traiter. En résume, nous pouvons dire que cela ne vaut pas la peine de partager l’optimisme des analystes du premier groupe ni l’affolement des analystes du deuxième. Il n’est pas possible du point du vue dialectique qu’une phase de l’histoire puisse exister sans les démons. Le problème est d’être en mesure de les évaluer objectivement, de les définir en détail. Alors peut-être découvrirons-nous qu’ils ne sont pas plus méchants envers nous que nous ne le sommes envers eux, et surtout que nous nous sommes mutuellement indispensable. Alors il ne restera plus qu’à collaborer pour affronter les autres démons bien réels qui nous menacent : la famine, la soif, la pollution de l’environnement, le chômage, l’analphabétisme, la drogue, la criminalité.

Στὴν εἰσήγηση αὐτὴν ἐκτίθενται τρία σημεῖα ποὺ ἀνατρέπουν τὴν μέχρι τοῦδε δυτικὴ ἀντίληψη γιὰ τὴν γεωπολιτικὴ σημασία τῆς Τουρκίας ὡς περιφερειακῆς δυνάμεως στὴ Μ. Ἀνατολή. α) Τὸ γεγονὸς ὅτι ἡ Τουρκία εὑρίσκεται σὲ μιὰ πολιτικῶς ὑποσχιζοειδῆ κατάσταση, μιὰ κρίση ταὐτότητος εἰς ὅ,τι ἀφορᾷ τὸν κοσμικὸ ἢ τὸν ἰσλαμικόν της χαρακτῆρα. Γίνεται ἐπίσης μιὰ περιγραφὴ τῶν σημαντικωτέρων κλάδων τοῦ τουρκικοῦ ἰσλαμικοῦ κινήματος. β) Το ὅτι τὸ μειονοτικὸ μωσαϊκὸ τῶν ἐθνοτήτων ποὺ διαβιοῦν στὸ ἔδαφος τῆς συγχρόνου Τουρκίας ἀποτελεῖ ὄχι μόνον κίνδυνο γιὰ τὴν ὑπόσταση τοῦ τουρκικοῦ κράτους ἀλλὰ καὶ οὐσιαστικὸ σημεῖο ἀσκήσεως ἐλέγχου ἐπὶ τῆς χώρας αὐτῆς ἀπὸ δυνάμεις ποὺ ἐπιδιώκουν τὴν συγκράτησή της στὴν σφαῖρα τῆς γεωπολιτικῆς τους ἐπιρροῆς καὶ τὴν χρησιμοποίησή της ὡς στρατηγικοῦ βραχίονος στὴν περιοχὴ τῆς Μέσης καὶ Ἐγγὺς Ἀνατολῆς. Ἡ ἐμφανὴς ὅμως ἀσυμφωνία χειρισμῶν μεταξὺ τῶν ἀνωτέρω μητροπολιτικῶν δυνάμεων καὶ ὁ μεταξύ των διαγκωνισμὸς στὴν περιοχή, δημιουργεῖ καταστάσεις ποὺ θὰ ταλανίζουν ἐσαεὶ τὸν τουρκικὸ λαὸ ἀλλὰ καὶ ὅλες τὶς ἄλλες ἐθνικὲς ὁμάδες ποὺ διαβιοῦν στὸ τουρκικὸ ἔδαφος. γ) Ἐπίσης, τὸ γεγονὸς ὅτι ὁ συνδυασμὸς τῶν ἀνωτέρω δύο στοιχείων, προκαλεῖ μίαν ἀκόμη ἀποσταθεροποιητικὴ συνιστῶσα γιὰ τὴν γεωστρατηγικὴν ἰσορροπία στὴν περιοχή, στὸν βαθμὸ ποὺ αὐτὴ ἐξαρτᾶται ἀπὸ τὸν παράγοντα Τουρκία.

An expression for the interaction energy between two defects in a metallic compound within the framework of the frozen potential approximation is presented. The numerical application to vacancies in Al or TAl (T=Fe, Ni) shows that the electrostatic contribution of the screening charge around each defect can predominate over the one-particle term.

This paper examines the relative status of the various forms of the Perfect in Modern Greek within the theoretical framework of Grammaticalization, arguing that only one of these, namely the ekho+infinitive form, is a genuine perfect periphrasis; it also deals with the implications that such an analysis would have for the explanation of the diachronic evolution of the Perfect.

The tectonic analysis of faults must include the geometric, kinematic, dynamic and temporal analyses. The results of the analysis must be coherent, with the σ2 axis parallel to the intersectionof a conjugate set of faults, whereas the slip lines must be perpendicular to it. Because of rejuvenation phenomena this relation is not always observed. Instead, the slip direction is observed to be oblique or subparallel to the intersection in the case of the activated faults during the earthquakes of 1981 in Kaparelli-Platees and in the case of the main fault set of Andros island in the Cyclades. Three areas are presented with inactive faults, active and inactive faults and active faults from NE Peloponnese. Finally, the generally active fault pattern of southern Greece is given and also a correlation of the fault pattern with the seismicity of the area, pointing out the existence of a relatively aseismic area with NHW-SSE trending faults in between two areas of high seismicity with B-W to ENE-KSW trending faults.
