Ο Χάνς Κρίστιαν Άντερσεν είναι γνωστός ως ένας από τους σημαντικότερους συγγραφείς παραμυθιών. Ωστόσο, υπήρξε και αξιόλογος εκπρόσωπος της ταξιδιωτικής λογοτεχνίας. Το 1841 πραγματοποίησε ένα εν πολλοίς άγνωστο στο ευρύ κοινό ταξίδι στην μεταεπαναστατική Ελλάδα. Τις εντυπώσεις του από το ταξίδι αυτό τις καταγράφει στο βιβλίο «Το παζάρι ενός ποιητή». Με εφαλτήριο το δέος του για τον πολιτισμό των αρχαίων Ελλήνων και την ελληνική φύση καταλαμβάνεται σύντομα από ένα ευδιάκριτο φιλελληνικό πνεύμα, διά του οποίου προσλαμβάνει και καταγράφει διάφορες όψεις της νεοελληνικής πραγματικότητας και του ελληνικού λαϊκού πολιτισμού. Η μελέτη της «λαϊκής ψυχής» υπήρξε βασικός πυλώνας του φιλελληνισμού κατά τον 19ο αιώνα, καθώς στόχος της ήταν να αποδείξει την πολιτισμική συνέχεια, άρα και την φυλετική ενότητα του ελληνικού γένους. Κείμενα όπως «Το παζάρι ενός ποιητή» αποτελούν μέσο γνωριμίας της ευρωπαϊκής κοινής γνώμης με τον ελληνικό λαϊκό πολιτισμό και καταφέρνουν να τονώσουν και να αναγεννήσουν το ευρωπαϊκό ενδιαφέρον για την Ελλάδα.

Η μελέτη, η οποία βασίζεται σε τεκμηριωτικό υλικό που συγκεντρώθηκε από τα αρχειακά κέντρα των Υπουργείων εξωτερικών της Ελλάδας και της Γαλλίας, του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής Αθηνών, αποπειράται να ανασυστήσει την ιστορία της πανεπιστημιακής έδρας γαλλικής φιλολογίας από την πρώτη, χρονολογικά, σχετική θεσμική υλοποίηση του 1933 μέχρι τη δημιουργία πανεπιστημιακών τμημάτων γαλλικών σπουδών, κατά την πρώτη μεταπολεμική δεκαετία. Επιχειρεί επίσης να δείξει πως ο πανεπιστημιακός αυτός θεσμός δεν συνδιαλέγεται μόνο με την ελληνική εκπαιδευτική και πολιτική συγκυρία: η ανάμειξη γαλλικών πολιτιστικών ιδρυμάτων επιβάλλει τη διεύρυνση του πεδίου παρατήρησης και σε εκείνο της πολιτιστικής διπλωματίας προκειμένου να φωτιστούν πληρέστερα όψεις που εν τέλει συνδιαμορφώνουν τη φυσιογνωμία του. Ο προβληματισμός επικεντρώνεται, καταρχάς, στις πολιτικές συνεργασίας των εμπλεκόμενων γαλλικών και ελληνικών εκπαιδευτικών ιδρυμάτων για την προώθηση του ζητήματος ή, αντίθετα, στις στρατηγικές που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν με στόχο την εγκατάλειψη αυτού του θεσμικού εγχειρήματος. Διερευνώνται, επίσης, τα δομικά χαρακτηριστικά σε επίπεδο στόχων, προσανατολισμού και οργάνωσης του θεσμού, τα οποία είναι άμεσα συναρτημένα με τις επιδιώξεις των συμβαλλόμενων μερών. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, ερμηνευτικά σχήματα, όπως το μεταβαλλόμενο από τη συνεργασία στην αντιπαλότητα και από την εξάρτηση στην αυτονόμηση πλέγμα σχέσεων, επιτρέπουν τη βαθύτερη κατανόηση των θεσμικών κατακτήσεων ή/και αντιστάσεων.

COVID-19 pandemic had a profound negative impact on people’s personal and social life. In this chapter, after some conceptual clarifications, we provide insights into the effects of ostracism on people’s well-being as individuals, partners, and group members. Specifically, we explore (a) individual- and personality-based risk factors of ostracism (intrapersonal level); (b) deprivation of social touch, disruption of empathy and social stigmatization in interpersonal relations (interpersonal level); and (c) disruption of social identity, social stigmatization and rise in prejudiced, discriminatory, and xenophobic tendencies within groups (intergroup level). The contribution of this chapter lies in proposing an interplay among intrapersonal, interpersonal, and intergroup dimensions of identity, that is, a multi-level conceptualization of ostracism during the covidian era. By integrating theoretical arguments and research findings, we support the view that personal identity commitment and identification with social groups have similar roots, both based on the individual’s need to formulate meaningful connections to the world and, thus, cope with as well as prevent ostracism. The implications of the interplay between personal and social identity for the measurement of ostracism are also discussed. Next, strategies for tackling ostracism during the pandemic or similar widespread crises are proposed. Finally, avenues for future research are suggested.

Η μελέτη αφορμάται από την προβληματική σχετικά με την έννοια του αγίου ανθρώπου στον Παύλο και στη μεταγενέστερη ανάπτυξη της Ορθόδοξης Χριστιανικής Θεολογίας. Ενώ στον Παύλο η ανθρωπολογική μεταβολή του ανθρώπου σε άγιο εντοπίζεται στο γεγονός του βαπτίσματος, η Ορθόδοξη Θεολογία τοποθετεί αυτή την ανθρωπολογική μεταμόρφωση στην κατάληξη του αγώνα του πιστού κατά των παθών. Το ερώτημα βάσει αυτών των δεδομένων είναι αν υπάρχουν ήδη στα κείμενα του Παύλου, και σε ποιον βαθμό, ίχνη αυτής της Ορθόδοξης αντίληψης. Ως περίπτωση παραδείγματος επελέγη το κείμενο Φιλ 1:12-2:18, το οποίο περιλαμβάνει στο πρώτο μέρος του (1:12-26) μια αφήγηση του Παύλου για τον εαυτό του, όπως φαίνεται από τη συχνή χρήση του α΄ ενικού προσώπου, καθώς και ρημάτων οριστικής έγκλισης. Αντίθετα, στο δεύτερο, παραινετικό μέρος του υπό εξέταση κειμένου (1:27-2:18 εκτός από το 2:6-11, το οποίο αποτελεί έναν παρένθετο χριστολογικό ύμνο) επικρατεί το β΄ πληθυντικό πρόσωπο και ρήματα σε υποτακτική ή προστακτική έγκλιση. Η μελέτη συγκρίνει τα δύο αυτά μέρη σε γραμματικό, συντακτικό, λεξιλογικό και θεολογικό επίπεδο, ώστε να καταλήξει στα εξής συμπεράσματα: Το αφηγηματικό και το παραινετικό τμήμα του υπό μελέτη κειμένου παρουσιάζουν σημαντική εννοιολογική και ακόμη και λεκτική σύγκλιση. Προκύπτει επομένως ότι αυτό που ισχύει ήδη για τον Παύλο (οριστική έγκλιση) καθίσταται πρόταγμα για τους πιστούς των Φιλίππων (προστακτική έγκλιση). Οι Φιλιππήσιοι καλούνται να μιμηθούν τον Παύλο, ο οποίος μιμείται με τη σειρά του τον Χριστό, στην αυτοθυσιαστική του ταπείνωση και στην βάσει αυτής επιδίωξη της ενότητας. Η μελέτη κατακλείεται με τις εξής συμπερασματικές παρατηρήσεις: Καθίστανται σαφείς η ηθική υπεροχή και η πνευματική ωριμότητα του Παύλου έναντι των πιστών των Φιλίππων, οι οποίοι δεν έχουν ακόμη καταφέρει να απαρνηθούν τις ιδιοτελείς επιδιώξεις τους και να έχουν αρραγή μεταξύ τους ενότητα, στηριγμένη στην ταπείνωση και στη μίμηση του αποστόλου. Από την άλλη πλευρά ωστόσο δεν διαφαίνεται στο κείμενο καμία ανθρωπολογική διάσταση μεταξύ Παύλου και πιστών, όσο και αν ηθικά βρίσκονται σε διαφορετικά μεταξύ τους επίπεδα. Διαφοροποιώντας την έννοια του αγίου ανθρώπου από τον εν γένει Χριστιανό και μη βλέποντας την αγιότητα ως τη δεδομένη ανθρωπολογική κατάσταση του βαπτισμένου πιστού, αλλά ως τον τελικό στόχο του, η Ορθόδοξη Θεολογία προσπάθησε να ερμηνεύσει το ιδιαίτερα διαδεδομένο φαινόμενο Χριστιανών κατ' όνομα, οι οποίοι όμως ζούσαν αμαρτωλή ζωή, σε αντιδιαστολή προς τους «αγίους» της εποχής του απ. Παύλου. Αν και κατανοητή η μεταβολή αυτή στην περί αγιότητας του ανθρώπου αντίληψη, δεν συνάδει ουσιαστικά με την παύλεια ανθρωπολογία, η οποία, έστω και αν έχει εν μέρει ουτοπικό χαρακτήρα, είναι καίριας σημασίας για την κατανόηση και τον επαναπροσδιορισμό της χριστιανικής ταυτότητας διαχρονικά.This study explores the concept of the “holy human being” (ἅγιος) in the theology of Paul and its subsequent development within Orthodox Christian theology. While Paul situates the anthropological transformation into holiness in the event of baptism, Orthodox theology locates this transformation in the culmination of the believers' struggle against their passions. Based on this background, the study investigates whether traces of this Orthodox understanding can be identified in Paul’s writings. Philippians 1:12–2:18 serves as a case study. The first section (1:12–26) is largely self-narrative, characterized by Paul’s use of the first-person singular and verbs in the indicative. By contrast, the second section (1:27–2:18, excluding the Christological hymn in 2:6–11) is exhortative, predominantly employing the second-person plural and verbs in the subjunctive or imperative mood. The study compares these two sections on grammatical, syntactical, lexical, and theological levels and concludes that they exhibit significant conceptual and even linguistic convergence. This suggests that what is already true for Paul (indicative mood) becomes a directive for the Philippian believers (imperative mood). The Philippians are called to imitate Paul, who, in turn, imitates Christ in his self-sacrificial humility (2:6-11). The study concludes that Paul’s moral superiority and spiritual maturity are evident compared to the Philippian believers, who have yet to abandon selfish pursuits and achieve unity rooted in humility by imitating Paul. On the other hand, the text does not present a fundamental anthropological distinction between Paul and the believers despite their differing moral levels. Orthodox theology, by not considering "holiness" as an innate anthropological trait of all baptized Christians but viewing it as their final spiritual goal, sought to address the later phenomenon of Christians living sinful lives. While this shift in the understanding of holiness is historically understandable, it does not align with Pauline anthropology. The latter, though partially unrealistic, remains central to understanding and redefining Christian identity across time.

This chapter presents strategies that teachers can use for preventing and dealing with students' behavior problems in the school community. These strategies are based on behavioral, cognitive behavioral, ecosystemic, and humanistic approaches. The basic premise of this chapter is that the effectiveness of prevention and intervention is enhanced when strategies from all these approaches are used by educators. The basic principles of behavioral, cognitive behavioral, ecosystemic, and humanistic models are briefly presented based on which, management strategies are described that teachers can implement to prevent and deal with children's behaviour problems as well as to increase desirable behaviours. These prevention and intervention programs are delivered at the individual, classroom, whole school, and family levels. Specific examples are given for all these strategies. Finally, two case studies or scenarios are presented with the aim of illuminating the effective use of these strategies in real situations within the school community.

This paper investigates case assignment in prepositional phrases in Ancient Greek and presents evidence that it is determined by the function of the PP and not by the preposition. It is shown that most of the prepositional lexical items involve a root and a formative with prepositional categorizing function, providing evidence for a decomposition approach which suggests that the prepositional lexical item is a morphosyntactic formation that lexicalizes a functional structure which is responsible for its semantic and syntactic properties, including case assignment. This functional structure contains, among others, a categorizing p head, relevant to the lexicalization of the structure by means of a preposition, and a pCASE head, which is responsible for the case assigning properties of the structure. It is also argued that these two heads are distinct from each other as suggested by the way prepositions behave in terms of case assignment in prepositional prefixation constructions.

Η μελέτη διερευνά την ερμηνεία του στίχου περί της δωρεάς του Αγίου Πνεύματος στους μαθητές από τον αναστάντα Ιησού μετά την Ανάστασή του στο Ιω. 20:22 από την πατερική γραμματεία του τέταρτου και του πέμπτου αιώνα, εστιάζοντας αντιπροσωπευτικά στις ερμηνείες των Κυρίλλου Ιεροσολύμων, Ιερωνύμου, Ιωάννη Χρυσοστόμου, Αυγουστίνου και Κυρίλλου Αλεξανδρείας. Από τη διερεύνηση αυτή προκύπτουν τα εξής συμπεράσματα: 1) Δεν υπάρχει ουσιαστική διαφοροποίηση μεταξύ δυτικής και ανατολικής, λατινόφωνης και ελληνόφωνης, αντιοχειανής και αλεξανδρινής εξήγησης. Όπως φαίνεται, έχουν επικρατήσει στη χριστιανική εκκλησία της εποχής συγκεκριμένες τάσεις μιας χριστολογικής και πνευματολογικής ερμηνείας του Ιωα 20:22, παρά λίγες επιμέρους διαφοροποιήσεις και παραλλαγές. Το λεγόμενο Filioque εμφανίζεται μόνο στον Αυγουστίνο σε μια πρώιμη μορφή του, διακριτή από την αντίληψη περί «οικονομικού filioque» των ανατολικών Πατέρων της Εκκλησίας. Σχεδόν όλοι οι εξεταζόμενοι στη μελέτη Πατέρες συνδέουν την εμφύσηση του Αγίου Πνεύματος με την ιστορία της δημιουργίας (Γεν 2:7), αλλά διαφοροποιούν το Πνεύμα από την ανθρώπινη ψυχή. Εξάλλου στηρίζονται σε παράλληλα βιβλικά κείμενα και όχι σε άλλους εκκλησιαστικούς συγγραφείς καθιστώντας έτσι, παρά τη δεδομένη μεταξύ τους αλληλεπίδραση, τη Βίβλο καθεαυτήν την κατεξοχήν αναμφισβήτητη θεολογική αυθεντία της εποχής τους. Για την ερμηνεία τους, λόγω ακριβώς του δογματικού ενδιαφέροντός της, αποφεύγουν να χρησιμοποιήσουν τις μεθόδους της αλληγορίας και της τυπολογίας. Τέλος, θεωρούν ότι οι διηγήσεις περί της δωρεάς του Αγίου Πνεύματος στο κατά Ιωάννην Ευαγγέλιο και στις Πράξεις των Αποστόλων αναφέρονται σε δύο διαφορετικά γεγονότα και όχι στο ίδιο γεγονός, αν και βέβαια τονίζουν ότι πρόκειται για το ίδιο Πνεύμα, το οποίο όμως παρέχει στους αποστόλους σε κάθε ένα από τα δύο αυτά περιστατικά διαφορετικά χαρίσματα. Αναδεικνύοντας και υπογραμμίζοντας η μελέτη τα βασικά θεολογικά μοτίβα της ερμηνείας του Ιωα 20:22 στην πατερική παράδοση φωτίζει τις θεολογικές τάσεις και συζητήσεις μιας άκρως σημαντικής για την ιστορία του Χριστιανισμού περιόδου, κατά την οποία τίθενται τα δογματικά θεμέλια της ανάπτυξής του μέχρι και τη νεότερη εποχή.  This study investigates the interpretation of John 20:22, concerning the risen Jesus’ bestowal of the Holy Spirit upon his disciples, as reflected in the patristic literature of the fourth and fifth centuries. It focuses on the representative exegeses of Cyril of Jerusalem, Jerome, John Chrysostom, Augustine of Hippo, and Cyril of Alexandria. The investigation yields the following conclusions: There is no substantial differentiation between Western and Eastern, Latin and Greek, Antiochian and Alexandrian interpretations. Certain trends of Christological and pneumatological exegesis of John 20:22 had already become predominant in the Christian Churches of the time, despite minor variations and differences. The concept of the Filioque appears solely in Augustine, in an early form distinct from the “economic Filioque” perspective of the Eastern Fathers. Nearly all the Church Fathers examined in the study associate Jesus’ breathing of the Holy Spirit with the creation narrative of Genesis 2:7. However, they make a clear distinction between the Holy Spirit and the human soul. The patristic authors base their interpretations on parallel biblical texts rather than on other ecclesiastical writers. Thus, despite the evident interaction among them, the Bible itself emerges as the preeminent and unquestionable theological authority of their era. Due to the doctrinal nature of their interpretations, the Fathers refrain from employing allegory or typology in their analyses. They unanimously consider the Johannine and Lukan accounts of the giving of the Holy Spirit as referring to two distinct events rather than to the same occurrence. However, they emphasize that the same Spirit is involved in both instances, though it imparts different gifts to the apostles in each case. By highlighting the theological motifs of John 20:22 in the patristic tradition, the study sheds light on the theological trends and discussions of a critical period in Christian history, during which the doctrinal foundations for Christianity's development into the modern era were established.

We are presenting a geopolitical analysis of power redistribution in the Geopolitical Complex of the Eastern Mediterranean, as defned by the Greek-Cypriot-Turkish-Israeli-Egyptian pentagon. The factor causing the reallocation of power in the Geopolitical Complex examined isTurkey’s policy in the Eastern Mediterranean, with a focus on the illegal Turkish-Libyan Memorandum of Understanding. Therefore, this analysis covers bilateral relations and tensions between Greece and Turkey andother international poles of power (France, Italy, Germany, the USA, and Russia) and their projection in the Eastern Mediterranean. Under the aforementioned perspective, we examine the converging factors upon which this analysis is focused: (a) the debate concerning the direct or indirect projection of power in the area, (b) the opportunities for cooperation between Greece and France in the defensesector, and (c) the advantages of creating a new Southeastern Mediterranean architecture of security in the context of NATO.

Η μελέτη αντιμετωπίζει το πρόβλημα της ασάφειας στη χρήση του όρου Ιουδαίοι και των υποκατηγοριών του (κυρίως πιστεύοντες Ιουδαίοι, Φαρισαίοι, Ιεροσολυμίτες, άλλοι, κόσμος και όχλος) στα κεφ. 7-8 του κατά Ιωάννην Ευαγγελίου. Τα κεφάλαια αυτά, και πρωτίστως ο στίχος 8:44, περιλαμβάνουν ορισμένους από τους πλέον οξείς αντιιουδαϊκούς χαρακτηρισμούς στην ιστορία του Χριστιανισμού και έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί διαχρονικά προκειμένου να θεμελιώσουν αντιιουδαϊκές θέσεις και συμπεριφορές. Σκοπός της μελέτης είναι η αποσαφήνιση της ταυτότητας των εκάστοτε συνομιλητών του Ιησού στα κεφ. 7-8 και των μεταβαλλόμενων τοποθετήσεών τους απέναντί του. Το θέμα προσεγγίζεται από τη σκοπιά της αφηγηματικής κριτικής. Η μελέτη διαιρείται με βάση την αφηγηματική δομή του κειμένου (7:1-9, 10-44, 45-52; 8:12-59). Συμπερασματικά προκύπτει ότι η εναλλαγή των συνομιλητών του Ιησού και η ενίοτε ασάφειά τους εξυπηρετεί τον στόχο του ευαγγελιστή να τους αφήσει σε κάποιον βαθμό απροσδιόριστους, ώστε τελικά να τους προβάλει συνολικά ως εκπροσώπους του αντίθεου κόσμου. Παρατηρείται επίσης ότι η εχθρότητα όλων των αναφερόμενων στο κείμενο ιουδαϊκών ομάδων, καθώς και των Ιουδαίων συνολικά, έναντι του Ιησού αυξάνεται σταδιακά και κορυφώνεται στις εκ μέρους τους απόπειρες σύλληψης και λιθοβολισμού του, χωρίς βέβαια να αποκλείεται και η ύπαρξη κάποιας ομάδας, η οποία απλώς δεν εκδηλώνει τη διαφωνία της με τις απόπειρες αυτές). Ωστόσο είναι σαφές ότι τα κεφάλαια 7-8 δεν λένε την τελευταία λέξη για την τοποθέτηση των Ιουδαίων και των υποκατηγοριών τους έναντι του Ιησού. Αντίθετα, θεωρούμενο συνολικά το κατά Ιωάννην Ευαγγέλιο, δείχνει ότι η εξέλιξη της στάσης αυτών των ομάδων έναντι του Ιησού, και επομένως η σωτηρία τους, παραμένει ανοικτή υπόθεση, όχι μόνο εντός, αλλά ακόμη και εκτός του κόσμου της αφήγησης. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι η εν προκειμένω αποτυχία των Ιουδαίων να πιστέψουν αληθινά στον Ιησού και η εχθρότητά τους απέναντί του δεν αποτελούν παρά ένα επιμέρους επεισόδιο σε μια συνεχιζόμενη πορεία, η οποία μπορεί τελικά να οδηγήσει πολλούς εξ αυτών στην πίστη. Επομένως, είναι παντελώς εσφαλμένη η θεώρηση του συγκεκριμένου κειμένου ως μιας στατικής και οριστικής καταδίκης των Ιουδαίων από τον ευαγγελιστή.The study addresses the issue of ambiguity in the use of the term "Jews" and its subcategories (mainly "believing Jews," "Pharisees," "Jerusalemites," "others," the "world," and the "crowd") in chapters 7-8 of the Gospel of John. These chapters, particularly verse 8:44, contain some of the most acute anti-Jewish characterizations in the history of Christianity and have been used over time to justify anti-Jewish positions and behaviors. The study aims to clarify the identity of Jesus' interlocutors in chapters 7-8 and their changing attitudes towards him. The topic is approached from a narrative-critical perspective. The study is divided based on the text's narrative structure (7:1-9, 10-44, 45-52; 8:12-59). In conclusion, the alternation of Jesus' interlocutors and their occasional ambiguity serves the evangelist's goal of leaving them undefined to a certain degree, thus presenting them collectively as representatives of the godless world. It is also observed that the hostility of all the Jewish groups mentioned in the text, as well as the "Jews" as a whole, towards Jesus gradually increases and culminates in their attempts to arrest and stone him, although the existence of a silent group that disagrees with these attempts is not excluded. However, it is clear that chapters 7-8 do not provide the final word on the "Jews'" and their subcategories' stance towards Jesus. On the contrary, considering the Gospel of John as a whole, the development of these groups' attitudes towards Jesus, and therefore their salvation, remains open, not only within but even outside the narrative world. This means that the "Jews'" failure to truly believe in Jesus and their hostility towards him is merely a part of an ongoing journey, which may ultimately lead many of them to faith. Therefore, it is entirely unjustified to view this text as a static and definitive condemnation of the Jews by the evangelist.

El objeto del presente trabajo es examinar cómo el nivel lingüístico de los aprendices de una lengua extranjera afecta a las asociaciones léxicas que realizan estos en su lexicón mental. El lexicón mental es un sistema altamente estructurado y organizado de distintas formas en redes interrelacionadas. Entre las palabras se establecen asociaciones de diferentes tipos (p.e. semánticas, fonológicas, enciclopédicas). No obstante, estas asociaciones no son estables, ya que el lexicón mental es un sistema dinámico que crece y se reorganiza cada vez que se almacena una nueva unidad léxica o cada vez que se aprende una nueva información sobre una palabra ya almacenada. Con el fin de examinar dichas asociaciones y su evolución, utilizamos una prueba asociativa, la cual permite la activación del léxico productivo mediante una palabra estímulo, haciendo posible de este modo la observación de cómo se organiza el lexicón mental. En nuestro trabajo sometemos a dos grupos de participantes de diferente nivel lingüístico a la realización de una prueba de disponibilidad léxica. Más específicamente, analizamos las respuestas de un grupo de alumnos griegos de ELE de nivel B1 y otro de nivel C1. Evaluamos aspectos cuantitativos y cualitativos de las respuestas en el centro de interés “Comida y bebida”. Los resultados del estudio indican que el nivel lingüístico en lengua extranjera afecta a la cantidad de las asociaciones léxicas realizadas por los participantes, mientras que no influye de una manera decisiva en el tipo de asociaciones léxicas generadas.

Ideas concerning the role, function, and nature of labor unions and their leadership can be found in 19th century economics literature. Even since this early period, a division between orthodox and non-orthodox approaches toward the study of labor unions can be discerned.  The orthodox framework was formed in the late 19th century with the gradual establishment of Marginalism, and it consolidated itself with the dominance of early neoclassical economics. Orthodox economic theory did not devote much attention to the economic analysis of unions. On the contrary and during the same period, non-orthodox economists such as Sidney and Beatrice Webb and early institutionalists (e.g. Richard Ely), had paid considerable attention to the study of unions, perceiving them as politico-economic organizations and emphasizing their wider role as social institutions (McNulty, 1980). The legacy of those two approaches continued in the 20th century and contemporary analyses of labor unions. The orthodox approach (originating mainly from the work of John Dunlop), generally conceives unions as purely economic units, analogous to firms, which can be studied by applying the standard tools of microeconomic theory. In this framework, the notion of union leadership plays a minimum role. In contrast, the non-orthodox viewpoint (originating mainly from Arthur Ross’ works), embraces a holistic, institutional-political-based attitude to labor unionism (Kaufman, 2002).

Theory and experiment went hand in hand in the work of Lord Rayleigh, in which the quest for rigor was a ubiquitous theme. To Rayleigh’s mind, though, and in contrast to mathematicians, physicists could proceed in their investigations without seeking absolute rigor. In his experimental practice, pursuing rigor involved the application of control strategies, which pervaded his work at various levels. Moreover, experimental control had various aims, such as standardizing measurement units in determining the ohm and validating experimental results in the discovery of argon. In the former case, Rayleigh and his team varied the design of their apparatus to control the experimental conditions. Dealing with errors was the main aim of their control practices and lay at the heart of their methodology. In the latter case, control was present in every step of the discovery process: the detection of discrepancies between the densities of atmospheric and “chemical” nitrogen, the identification of argon as a constituent of the atmosphere, and the subsequent exploration of its properties. The aim of this paper is to investigate and contrast the strategies of control employed in those two cases and to clarify their various purposes.

The long-standing tension between the two North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies, Greece and Turkey, and their recurrent spats has often made them the subject of Western diplomatic and political attention. There are three external actors, the United States, NATO and the EU which have been particularly interested in Greek-Turkish relations and the security situation in the eastern Mediterranean. Of these three parties NATO has had the least significant role to play, while between the United States and the EU the former has the longer period of involvement in this part of the world and today continues to play a major, though arguably, less committed role. This chapter examines the overall US response to the turbulence between its two allies since the 1950s by placing it within the larger context of US foreign policy.

Alan Weinstein remarked that, working in the framework of diffeology, a construction from Noncommutative Differential Geometry might provide the non-trivial representations required for the geometric quantisation of a symplectic structure which is not integral. In this note we show that the construction we gave with P. Antonini does indeed provide non-trivial representations.

Στη μελέτη αυτήν παρουσιάζεται εισαγωγικά η βιολογική λειτουργία των ορμονών σεροτονίνη και ωκυτοκίνη. Η πρώτη ορμόνη προωθεί και ανταμείβει μεταξύ άλλων την άνοδο στην κοινωνική ιεραρχία, ενώ η δεύτερη τους κοινωνικούς και διαπροσωπικούς δεσμούς. Ενώ οι μηχανισμοί αυτοί έχουν αναπτυχθεί βιολογικά για να ευνοούν την επιβίωση, δεν την εγγυώνται, καθώς η προσπάθεια για συνεχή κοινωνική άνοδο μπορεί να δημιουργήσει εχθρούς, ενώ οι δεσμοί εμπιστοσύνης μπορούν να διαρραγούν με διάφορες αφορμές. Στο πρώτο μέρος της μελέτης περιγράφεται η κατάσταση του ιωάννειου κόσμου με έμφαση στη συνεχή πάλη του για αυτοεπιβεβαίωση και δημιουργία δεσμών ως το υπόβαθρο της εν γένει δραστηριότητας του Ιησού. Στο δεύτερο μέρος εξετάζεται το νέο μοντέλο της εξασφάλισης μια αναβαθμισμένης κοινωνικής θέσης και μόνιμων δεσμών αγάπης και εμπιστοσύνης μέσα στην οικογένεια του Θεού, σύμφωνα με τη διδασκαλία και το παράδειγμα του Ιησού. Στο τρίτο μέρος παρουσιάζεται η ιστορία του Σίμωνος Πέτρου ως αφηγηματικού χαρακτήρα, προκειμένου να φανεί η πορεία της πνευματικής μετάβασης και μεταμόρφωσης από την πραγματικότητα του ιωάννειου κόσμου σε αυτήν της οικογένειας του Θεού. Συμπερασματικά, η μελέτη καταλήγει στο ότι το κατά Ιωάννην Ευαγγέλιο καταγράφει τις εντός του κόσμου και της κοινότητας των ακολούθων του Ιησού τάσεις αυτοεπιβεβαίωσης αφενός και δημιουργίας διαπροσωπικών και κοινωνικών δεσμών αφετέρου. Ωστόσο μέσα στον κόσμο οι τάσεις αυτοεπιβεβαίωσης και επικράτησης δημιουργούν συγκρούσεις και καθίστανται καταστροφικές, ενώ αντίστοιχα οι όποιες συμμαχίες και δεσμοί έχουν επιφανειακό και ασταθή χαρακτήρα, καθώς καταρρέουν, όταν δεν εξυπηρετούν συγκεκριμένα συμφέροντα. Από την άλλη πλευρά η αυτοθυσιαστική αγάπη του Ιησού μεταμορφώνει αυτές  τις ανθρώπινες τάσεις και συμπεριφορές. Έτσι, οι ακόλουθοι του Ιησού ανέρχονται όχι εντός κοσμικών δομών, αλλά μέσα στην οικογένεια του Θεού ως τα αναγεννημένα παιδιά του. Στην οικογένεια αυτή δεν υπάρχουν ανταγωνιστικές σχέσεις, αλλά αντίθετα η αυτοθυσιαστική αγάπη προς τους άλλους είναι το κριτήριο και η προϋπόθεση της ανόδου κοντά στον Θεό. Ο αφηγηματικός χαρακτήρας του Πέτρου αποτελεί χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα μαθητή ο οποίος, παρά την αναμφισβήτητη αφοσίωσή του στον Ιησού, διέπεται από το πνεύμα του κόσμου, καθότι προσπαθεί διαρκώς να αυτοεπιβεβαιωθεί αποδεικνύοντας την υπεροχή του έναντι των άλλων μαθητών. Αφού αποτύχει οικτρά, αρνούμενος τον Ιησού, συνειδητοποιεί ότι μόνο διά της εμπιστοσύνης προς αυτόν μπορεί να γίνει αληθινός μαθητής του. Προϋπόθεση γι' αυτή την εμπιστοσύνη είναι η παραμονή του στην αγαπητική κοινωνία της οικογένειας του Θεού.This study begins with an introduction to the biological functions of the hormones serotonin and oxytocin. The former promotes and rewards ascension within social hierarchies, while the latter facilitates social and interpersonal bonding. While these mechanisms have evolved biologically to enhance survival, they do not guarantee it. Efforts to achieve continuous social ascent may create enemies, while bonds of trust can be broken under various circumstances. The first part of the study describes the state of the Johannine "world," emphasizing its constant struggle for self-assertion and the formation of bonds as the backdrop to Jesus’ overall activity. The second part examines the new model proposed by Jesus’ teaching and example for attaining an elevated social position and permanent bonds of love and trust within God’s family. The third part focuses on the narrative character of Simon Peter as a case study, illustrating the process of spiritual transition and transformation from the Johannine world’s reality into that of God’s family. The study concludes that the Gospel of John portrays tendencies for self-assertion and the formation of social and interpersonal bonds both within the world and the community of Jesus’ followers. However, in the world, the drive for self-assertion and dominance generates conflicts and ultimately proves destructive. Similarly, alliances and bonds are superficial and unstable, dissolving when they no longer serve specific self-interests. Conversely, Jesus’ self-sacrificial love transforms these human tendencies and behaviors. His followers ascend not within worldly structures but within God’s family as his reborn children. In this family, there are no competitive relationships; instead, self-sacrificial love toward others becomes the criterion and prerequisite for drawing closer to God.

Cost reduction is a component that contributes to both the profitability and longevity of a corporation, especially in the case of a financial institution, and can be accomplished through greater client retention. Particularly, credit card customers comprise a volatile subset of a bank's client base. As such, banks would like to predict in advance which of those clients are likely to attrite, so as to approach them with proactive marketing campaigns. Credit card attrition is generally a poorly investigated subtopic with a variety of challenges, like highly imbalanced datasets. This article utilizes neural networks to address the challenges of credit card attrition since they have found great application in many classification problems. More particularly, to overcome the shortcomings of traditional back propagation neural networks, we construct a multi-input trigonometrically activated weights and structure determination (MTA-WASD) neural network which incorporates structure trimming as well as other techniques that boost its training speed as well as diminish the danger and the subsequent detrimental effects of overfitting. When applied to three publicly available datasets, the MTA-WASD neural network demonstrated either superior or highly competitive performance across all metrics, compared to some of the best-performing classification models that MATLAB's classification learner app offers.

of teacher design in collaborative settings in the light of the new opportunities that digital resources (DRs) offer. Taking into account the growing research interest into the collective dimension of teachers’ design-work, our aim is to answer what are the forms, conditions, and products of teachers’ collective design-work with DRs as well as what and how the individual teacher learns by participating in collaborative work with DRs. We also aim to answer what theoretical and analytical perspectives are used by researchers to study teachers’ collective design-work with DRs. To answer these questions, we conducted a systematic literature study leading finally to 36 peer-reviewed publications. Our first thematic analysis resulted in two main themes (the process of teacher collaboration, the impact of teacher collaboration on teacher professional learning) and corresponding subthemes. The next step of our analysis focused on: the context, the product, the purpose, and the processes of the design-work; the theoretical and methodological approaches by which it was studied; and the main findings. The final synthesis indicates that (a) teachers’ collaborative design-work has usually positive learning outcomes for individual teachers, (b) the role of DRs in the collaboration depends on their affordances, and (c) the collective-individual interplay has been studied mainly by a focus on the effects of the collaboration on the individual teacher and not the other way around. Areas of further research are also discussed.

 

As a critical reflection to the discourse surrounding the ‘Berlin Republic’ and the demand for a redefinition of the German national identity, the last two decades have seen the emergence of various works by artists labeled as ‘migration background’ that deal with German historical and memory culture. Fatih Akin’s political thriller Aus dem Nichts and Feridun Zaimoglu’s novel German Amok examine migration from a genuinely postmigrant perspective. This broadening of the perspectival focus generates a different understanding of history and society, which through its disillusioning and irritating effect allows a critical examination of social power relations and deficits in norms and values.

Στόχος του άρθρου αυτού είναι να υπογραμμίσει ότι η σημερινή χρήση του πάρκου αντιβαίνει στους ιδεολογικούς και λειτουργικούς στόχους τηςδημιουργίας του, όπως αυτοί καθορίστηκαν από τον Frederick Law Olmsted. Όχι μόνο αλλοιώνεται η ταυτότητά του, αλλά η εκχώρηση αποφασιστικών αρμοδιοτήτων ενός τόσο σημαντικού φυσικού και  ιστορικού μνημείου της πόλης στην ιδιωτική, μη κυβερνητική οργάνωση γνωστή ως Central Park Conservancy τείνει να εμπορευματοποιήσει τη χρήση του, γεγονός το οποίο οδηγεί στην τουριστικοποίησή του και στην παραγωγή πολιτικής, κοινωνικής και οικονομικής υπεραξίας. Μέσα από τη μελέτη λογοτεχνικών και κινηματογραφικών αναπαραστάσεων και άλλων καλλιτεχνικών αφηγήσεων, διαφαίνεται ανάγλυφα η σύνδεση ανάμεσα στη νοηματοδότηση και ερμηνεία του πάρκου και τους τρόπους διαχείρισης, εκμετάλλευσης και ελέγχου του. Ωστόσο, επειδή ο γεωγραφικός χώρος δεν είναι στατικός και κανένας τόπος δεν διεκδικεί μια και μοναδική διαχρονική ταυτότητα, ο χώρος του Σέντραλ Παρκ γίνεται πεδίο συγκρουόμενων απόψεων σχετικά με την παρούσα και τη μελλοντική του λειτουργία.

The COVID-19 pandemic really went viral (pun intended) and dominated the media and public discourse, often overshadowing coverage of the equally urgent climate crisis. Despite their distinct features, both crises share important characteristics, such as global impact, economic repercussions, and associations with biodiversity loss, which disproportionately affect marginalized communities. Based on the bibliometric analysis, a significant body of literature exists on the impact of climate change on virus transmission and the environmental consequences of the pandemic. This work focuses on articles that explore the COVID-19 crisis as a learning experiment for the climate crisis, suggesting that in both cases, mitigation policies are less costly than adaptation policies, a collective global response should be agreed upon through international agreements, support for vulnerable communities is crucial, and effective communication to policymakers and the public is paramount.

The main purpose of this section is to explore the design of and design with digital resources (DRs) for mathematics teaching and learning. Design of DRs involves teachers’ engagement in the process where DRs are the product of design. Design with DRs refers to cases where DRs facilitate the design-work offering an environment for teacher collaboration (e.g., communication platform) or an environment for designing tasks and lessons. The chapters of this section address both forms of design.

Im ersten Viertel des 21. Jahrhunderts ist in der griechischen Literatur und Kunst im Allgemeinen eine starke Hinwendung zum Werk Franz Kafkas festzustellen, die sich auch im griechischen Kino bemerkbar macht. Auf der Grundlage der Theorien von Marcuse, Adorno, Foucault und Deleuze & Guattari setzt sich die vorliegende Studie zum Ziel zu beweisen, dass der Hauptgrund, weshalb Kafka für die zeitgenössische griechische Kunst absolut relevant ist, die Tatsache ist, dass er in erster Linie ein politischer Schriftsteller war, der versuchte, den komplexen Charakter der modernen condition humaine, das Leben unter den absurden Mechanismen einer repressiven Macht, aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln zu beleuchten. Nach einem Überblick über griechische Filme, die von Mitte der 1950er Jahre bis heute von Kafkas Werk beeinflusst zu sein scheinen, wird der Versuch unternommen, den preisgekrönten Film The Lobster (2015) von Giorgos Lanthimos als besonders repräsentativ zu analysieren. Die vergleichende Untersuchung dieses Films mit Kafkas Texten wie Der Prozess, Das Urteil und Die Verwandlung zielt darauf ab, auf „intertextuelle“ Bezüge hinzuweisen sowie Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten, sowohl ästhetisch als auch thematisch, innerhalb eines offenen dynamischen Dialogs aufzuzeigen.

El presente estudio pretende demostrar que la prueba de disponibilidad léxica puede servir como una herramienta útil para indicar la competencia ortográfica y las posibles dificultades que afrontan los aprendices de español como lengua extranjera en su esfuerzo por aprender el aspecto formal de las palabras españolas. En este estudio en concreto sometemos a un grupo de estudiantes griegos de español como lengua extranjera de nivel A2 a la realización de una prueba de disponibilidad léxica. Tras la localización y la clasificación de los errores ortográficos de las respuestas en el centro de interés “Comida y bebida”, los analizamos tanto de manera cuantitativa como cualitativa. Los resultados indican que una prueba de disponibilidad léxica puede ser un indicador de la competencia ortográfica de los alumnos en la lengua extranjera, dado que nos permite conocer la tipología de los errores cometidos y las áreas más problemáticas para los participantes. En este sentido, las pruebas de disponibilidad léxica pueden servir como ayuda para profesores de español, aportándoles la información necesaria para planificar su clase y adaptarla a las necesidades de sus alumnos.

Summary Mixed-phase clouds are ubiquitous in the Arctic and play a critical role in Earth's energy budget at the surface and top-of-the-atmosphere. These clouds typically occupy the lower and mid-level troposphere and are composed of purely supercooled liquid droplets or mixtures of supercooled liquid water droplets and ice crystals. Here, we review progress in our understanding of the factors that control the formation and dissipation of Arctic mixed-phase clouds, including the thermodynamic structure of the lower troposphere, warm and moist air intrusions into the Arctic, large-scale subsidence, and aerosol particles. We then provide a brief survey of numerous Arctic field campaigns that targeted local cloud-controlling factors and follow this with specific examples of how the Arctic Cloud Observations Using airborne measurements during polar Day (ACLOUD)/ Physical feedback of Arctic PBL, Sea ice, Cloud And AerosoL (PASCAL) and Airborne measurements of radiative and turbulent FLUXes of energy and momentum in the Arctic boundary layer (AFLUX) field campaigns that took place in the vicinity of Svalbard in 2019 were able to advance our understanding on this topic to demonstrate the value of field campaigns. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of the outlook of future research in the study of Arctic cloud-controlling factors and provide several recommendations for the observational and modeling community to advance our understanding of the role of Arctic mixed-phase clouds in a rapidly changing climate.

Die Französische Revolution wurde als Epochenwende in der europäischen Geschichte gefeiert. Doch bald stellte sich heraus, dass die Revolution keine Institutionalisierung einer neuen, humaneren Gesellschaft darstellte, sondern einen bloßen Herrschaftsabtausch. In Der Auftrag führt Heiner Müller ein „Gespräch mit den Toten”.  Das Stück thematisiert das Verhältnis von Individuum und Geschichte. Seine Figuren sind zwischen den Polen „Verrat“ und Erfüllung des historischen „Auftrags“ angesiedelt. Die Revolution wird als gescheitert deklariert. Der Versuch, die Geschichte revolutionär zu verändern, beseitigte nicht die alte, gewalttätige Ordnung, sondern ließ sie unter einer Maske wieder entstehen. Dieses kulturphilosophische Erklärungsmodell für das Scheitern der Revolution mündet in eine Fundamentalkritik an der europäisch-westlichen Zivilisation, in eine Nekrologie auf das bürgerliche, aber auch das sozialistische Revolutionsmodell. Müller ist jedoch kein Geschichtspessimist. Revolution ist zwingende Aufgabe jeder Generation, aber ihr Ort wird außergeschichtlich, in fernster Zukunft und im „ausgeschlossenen Anderen“ situiert. In Marat/Sade führt Peter Weiss einen ähnlichen Dialog mit den Toten. De Sade und Marat führen eine Art Totengespräch miteinander, aber auch mit dem Autor und dem Zuschauer. Im Sinne eines Spiels im Spiel vergleicht Weiss die historische Situation 1793, 1808 und 1964. Weiss’ de Sade ist eine Nietzschische Figur, während Marat eine idealistische Figur darstellt, die auf soziale Veränderung abzielt.  Das Stück thematisiert die Extremen „Revolte“ und „Bekenntnis zur Verlorenheit“ als die beiden (nicht lebbaren) Alternativen, zwischen denen das moderne Individuum zu wählen hat. 

In this paper, I explore the role of knowledge in the RE curriculum. Based on research I attempt to answer the question regarding the knowledge that constitutes RE as a subject, using philosophical, theological, and educational (derived from psychology and neurosciences) argumentation. I discuss the differences between the Greek ideas of paideia (αγωγή/παιδεία) and education (εκπαίδευση)from which the English word education is conceptually beholden. The discussion relies on Biesta’s distinction between ‘cultivation humanity’ and ‘educating the human’. Above all, the key point is that Dewey’s theory of knowing works hand in hand with substantive knowledge and its transformative power in individual’s life where the other is more than significant. RE’s what of education is as important as the how of education. Content and process are perceived here as an educational experience (thinking, reflection, and action) which provides, within the curriculum context the ‘language game’ of the religion(s) and worldviews facilitating students’ knowledge processes and therefore communication with self and others and their cosmopolitanism. In practice, experiential learning applies within the classroom the RE’s content in ‘events with meaning’ from which contributions to knowledge-based teaching are made possible.

Workplace mobbing, bullying and sexual harassment are not new phenomena. There were always there. Nonetheless, the recent few years more studies have highlighted their significance for the well-being of the employees and the workplace. First and foremost, it is apparent to clarify the differences between mobbing, bullying and sexual harassment. In the first part of this paper, we are going to focus on workplace mobbing and bullying and in the second part on sexual harassment. The term workplace bullying is usually encountered more often than mobbing. The differences between the two, mainly represent the differences between two schools of thought: a) the British School, where the term workplace bullying prevails and b) the Scandinavian countries and Germany, where the term mobbing is more commonly used. Workplace bullying includes mobbing, that is the moral and emotional violation of another person, but it also expands to include the physical and sexual violation that derives from abuse of power. Workplace bullying refers to direct repeated aggressive behavior towards a person. This behavior results in the victim suffering psychological, physical, financial and/or sexual harassment. Mobbing is a more passive aggressive form of moral and emotional harassment that offends the dignity of an individual and may cause him/her emotional damage. Mobbing, or else, moral, and emotional harassment, has several consequences for the person exposed to this experience but furthermore for the workplace as well.

This paper is about Pecyllus, a magistrate in 3rd c. AD Oxyrhynchus, whose dossier consists of several private and official documents as well as letters. After a brief description of Pecyllus’ social and financial situation, the paper focuses on his private letters, analysing how Pecyllus adapted the layout, palaeography and linguistic style of each of his letters according to the message, the addressee and situation. It argues that ancient letter writers were able to adapt the external appearance of their writings according to their relationship to the addressee and in order to increase the persuasiveness of their letters.

This chapter critically presents and discusses the Ecumenical Patriarch's 2014 lecture on ‘Religion and Freedom’. The first part of the chapter argues that the Ecumenical Patriarch departs from previous dismissive views of Orthodox thinkers and church leaders about human rights and the location of religious freedom within it, by counter-proposing a personalist interpretation of libertarian freedom, compatible with the theological anthropology of the Orthodox Church. The Ecumenical Patriarch's view was given official expression at the Holy and Great Council of 2016. The second part of the chapter shows that religious freedom uncovers deep-rooted antinomies in the historical identity of the Orthodox Church as a religious community. The chapter concludes by arguing that the Orthodox Church has the intellectual resources to solve these antinomies through a process of critical self-reflection.

Auf der Grundlage aktueller Erkenntnisse der Identitäts- und Erinnerungsforschung soll in dieser Studie die Rolle von Erinnerung und Identität im dramatischen Spätwerk Thomas Bernhards am Beispiel des Stücks Vor dem Ruhestand diskutiert werden. In Vor dem Ruhestand tritt Bernhard in einen provokanten Dialog mit den Erinnerungen seines Publikums. Er untersucht die deutsche Erinnerungskultur und entdeckt das Fortbestehen des nationalsozialistischen Gedankenguts in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Auf groteske oder tragikomische Weise thematisiert das Stück die fehlende Vergangenheitsbewältigung und die Amnesie großer Teile der Bevölkerung sowie die identitätsstiftende Rolle von verzerrten und selektiven Bildern der Vergangenheit, die von Generation zu Generation transportiert werden. Bernhards Auseinandersetzung mit den Erinnerungspathologien der "deutschen Seele" hat einen eminent politischen Tenor, dennoch geht es ihm nicht um eine Veränderung der Gesellschaft, um das Aufzeigen von Alternativen. Es geht ihm um die Wahrheit, um die Aufdeckung der Wahrheit als Schock, als Akt des Widerstands und als mögliche Quelle der Hoffnung, aber auch als conditio sine qua non der Vergangenheitsbewältigung und damit der Subjektwerdung des Menschen.

Στο κεφάλαιο παρουσιάζεται η έρευνα που έγινε στο πλαίσιο της συγκέντρωσης δεδομένων σχετικά με την επιμόρφωση των Συντονιστών Εκπαιδευτικού Έργου (ΣΕΕ) Νηπιαγωγών και Εκπαιδευτικών Αγγλικής Γλώσσας κατά την εφαρμογή του Προγράμματος «Εισαγωγή της Αγγλικής γλώσσας στο Νηπιαγωγείο» (ΕΑΝ). Για τη συγκεκριμένη επιμόρφωση υπεύθυνη ήταν η ομάδα του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών (ΕΚΠΑ). Πιο συγκεκριμένα, εστιάζουμε στην παρουσίασητων απόψεων και των στάσεων των ΣΕΕ όπως αυτές προέκυψαν μέσα από τη διενέργεια δύο ομάδων εστίασης (focus groups). Το κεφάλαιο κλείνει με τη συζήτηση των δεδομένων αυτών, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στα συμπεράσματα που προκύπτουν σε σχέση με την αξιολόγηση της επιμόρφωσής των ΣΕΕ στο πλαίσιο του ΕΑΝ, αλλά και στον ευρύτερο αντίκτυπο της συγκεκριμένης επιμόρφωσης για τον σχεδιασμό αντίστοιχων προγραμμάτων επιμόρφωσης στο μέλλον.

Κατά το πρώτο τέταρτο του 21ου αιώνα παρατηρείται μια πολύ έντονη στροφή της ελληνικής λογοτεχνίας και τέχνης εν γένει προς το έργο του Franz Kafka. Βασιζόμενη σε θεωρίες των Marcuse, Adorno, Foucault και Deleuze & Guattari η παρούσα μελέτη θέτει ως στόχο της να αποδείξει ότι ο βασικός λόγος για τον οποίο ο Kafka είναι απολύτως επίκαιρος για τη σύγχρονη ελληνική τέχνη είναι το γεγονός ότι υπήρξε πρωτίστως ένας πολιτικός συγγραφέας, ο οποίος επιχείρησε να φωτίσει από διάφορες πλευρές τον πολυσύνθετο χαρακτήρα και τους παράλογους μηχανισμούς της εξουσίας. Μέσα από ένα πραγματικά ευρύ φάσμα έργων στα οποία είναι εμφανής η επίδραση του Kafka επιλέχθηκαν το αφήγημα Ο Φλογοκρύπτης (2003) του Αριστείδη Αντονά και η ταινία Αστακός (2015) του Γιώργου Λάνθιμου ως ιδιαίτερα αντιπροσωπευτικά. Η συγκριτολογική μελέτη των εν λόγω έργων με κείμενα του Kafka όπως η Δίκη, η Κρίση και η Μεταμόρφωση αποσκοπεί στην αναγνώριση καφκικών διακειμένων καθώς και στην ανάδειξη συνεχειών και ασυνεχειών, τόσο αισθητικών όσο και θεματικών, μέσα σε έναν «ανοιχτό» δυναμικό διάλογο.

The article investigates the impact of the issuance of Tier 1 and Tier 2 regulatory capital by Greek banks for the period 2002-2020 on the return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), leverage ratios (SLR) and liquidity and funding ratios (NSFR), by taking also into account the changes in the macroeconomic environment with variables such as GDP and unemployment. In this context, we perform data analysis on 14 systemic and non-systemic Greek banks and we find that capital ratios of banking institutions affect profitability, asset quality and earnings, liquidity and leverage. Bank size, loan-to-deposit ratio and NPLs ratio are important determinants of banks’ profitability. Finally, unemployment is an important exogenous determinant of profitability ratios.

Purpose - The purpose of this study is twofold: To provide a general overview of the existing literature circulating the Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) in the European Banking System and to provide evidence of the future of European NPL developments, from the prism of the recent Covid-19 pandemic and the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) factors, placing the focus on the Greek banking sector. Design/methodology/approach - The research methodology implemented is a critical overview of the existing literature regarding NPLs, comprising of officially published papers. Due to the fact that both the Covid-19 pandemic & and the ESG factors are very recent, the papers included are mainly of theoretical nature. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the NPL literature, placing the focus on the implications that the recent worldwide developments will have on NPL flows. Findings - The findings showed that Covid -19 is expected to negative impact the European NPLs. Moreover, the alterations due to the implementation of ESG factors will cause major effects to the European banking system, which are expected to withhold the upcoming the NPL level increase. Originality/value - This paper offers the first attempt, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, by analyzing the existing literature regarding Covid-19 & ESG, expected to have a profound impact on the NPLs stocks. It also provides a general overview of the expected impact of the two prementioned factors in the European NPLs, driven by the relative shortage of relevant research, while offering useful insights which contribute to a deeper understanding.

Resumen: Federico Gamboa en su novela Santa, mediante una crítica sutil del sistema político positivista, retrata varios aspectos de la sociedad mexicana durante el gobierno de Porfirio Díaz. En aquella época, con el apoyo del Porfiriato y de las inversiones extranjeras, México conoce un período de prosperidad económica y de florecimiento tecnológico que atrae a inmigrantes europeos y norteamericanos. El autor mexicano, a través de la vida trágica de la protagonista en la capital mexicana, presenta el mosaico de la sociedad mexicana, cuya parte importante son los inmigrantes. En el presente estudio se analiza el perfil y la posición del inmigrante en el ambiente histórico social del Porfiriato con el objetivo de revelar tanto la mentalidad y la conducta de los mexicanos hacia los inmigrantes, como la de los inmigrantes hacia los mexicanos. In the present conference we analyze the profile and the position of the immigrant in the social environment of Porfirio Diaz time, in order to reveal the mentality and the behavior of both parties: the immigrants and the Mexicans. Au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, dans un contexte de décolonisation progressive, Louise Weiss, reporter de renommée, écrivaine et femme politique, s’engage activement dans la défense de l’empire colonial français déjà assailli impitoyablement. Chargée de maintes missions politiques et culturelles, elle se lance dans un long voyage (1946-1968) à destination de tous les points chauds du globe : Japon, Indochine, Chine, Syrie, Liban, Égypte, Sénégal, Éthiopie, Djibouti, Madagascar, Tibet et Cachemire, entre autres. Tentative d’intervention sur le cours de la politique internationale autant que recherche sur « l’aspiration générale de l’humanité », le voyage « weissien », pratique et écritures, est à la fois acte cognitif et politique. Sous ce rapport, le récit viatique de la journaliste, vecteur de ses prises de positions politiques, sociales et idéologiques au regard des nouveaux enjeux géopolitiques et culturels qui émergent dans un monde en ébullition, revêt un caractère autant instructif que propagandiste. Sur un autre plan, il dévoile l’inquiétude d’une Européenne devant la déchéance morale de la civilisation occidentale.

Paris in War: urban space mutations, through the prism of gender, during the Great War A city on the sidelines that records the echoes of, an often, distant conflict, Paris sees its physiognomy going through an alteration during the First World War. The mass exodoi of September 1914 and May 1918, the material disasters caused by the air raids of the Gothas, and the constant ‘hammerings’ of “Fat Bertha” from land between Mars and August 1918[1], the return of the wounded, all inscribe themselves on the urban landscape of the capital marking it in an unprecedented manner. But what changes the cityscape more drastically is the predominance of a feminization of the area which manifests itself with the geographical reorganization of the professional territory. This reconfiguration breaks up boundaries and partitions and renders the traditional space and gender dichotomies and polarizations obsolete. In turn, this restructuring imposes on figures of urban authority a new approach to public space, with a view to enforce new rules and frameworks on the multifaceted and ongoing evolutions. The current work, that stems from the issue of the ‘city in crisis’, proposes a discovery, through the Parisian example of 1914-1918, of the complicated nature-inherent with a gendered perspective-of a global vision that unites war, space and gender visibility. This is about demonstrating how the interaction of these two tools for the evaluation of mutations-the crisis and gender-functions as a cadre of transversal comprehension and interpretation of the urban dynamics and tensions that could potentially enrich and renew the history of cities. Therefore, the scope of the current project cannot be but multiple: to discover the innovation and the gendered professional geography (exercise of functions and professions that have traditionally and exclusively been reserved for males); to examine the interventional policies (recommendations, laws, ministerial circulars and work realized by feminist and charity associations) that have to do, in part, with regulating, organizing and finally normalizing this new spatial reality with multiple repercussions, and, on the other hand, to guarantee its temporary character that is associated with the anomaly of the moment; lastly, it interrogates a-pro-birth, hygienic and political-discourse according to which the construction of the peaceful city rests on the reestablishment of gender separated and dedicated places.

Refugee children have never been so numerous in Europe and especially in Greece, which is a major country of entry and hosting of refugees. These children are either accompanied or unaccompanied, and some have no relatives. According to the United Nations’ 1989 Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC), “all CRC rights are to be granted to all persons under 18 years of age (Art. 1) without discrimination of any kind (Art. 2).” Refugee children, as all children, hold “the right to education” (Art.28), which aims to achieve “the preparation of the child for responsible life in a free society, in the spirit of understanding, peace, tolerance, equality of sexes, and friendship among all peoples, ethnic, national, and religious groups and persons of indigenous origin” (Art.29, 1d). Greek law, moreover, addresses that they all should have access to a full range of educational services, including school, university, and vocational training programs. Within this context, we argue for synergy between peace education, democratic citizenship, and social pedagogy and its potential to enable all children in schools, refugee children included, to be educated. This chapter focuses on a current initiative in 18 Northern Greek schools in which there are reception classes with the aim of the project being that 150 schools providing secondary education that offer reception classes would have taken part by the end of the school year 2020–2021. The program is titled “School for All—inclusion of refugee children in Greek schools” and is organized and run by the Wergeland Center and the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs that aim to support all school members with the ultimate goal of creating a democratic and inclusive school environment. The use of the Council of Europe’s ‘Whole school approach' and the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (2018) are proposed to be used in practice. The first results that show reducing conflict are obvious, while it seems that a synergy between peace education, democratic citizenship, and social pedagogy can improve social cohesion within communities so as to increase resilience against conflict. Finally, the chapter reflects on the relationship between peacemaking and faith traditions, especially Greek Orthodox and Islamic traditions, as well as the value of inter-faith dialogue while aiming for inclusion.

Quantum chemistry is a firmly established branch within theoretical chemistry. However, in the late 1920s and early 1930s when the first foundational papers and books appeared, mostly written by physicists as well as by chemists or chemical physicists, the disciplinary identity of the emerging field was a contentious issue: Was it physics or was it chemistry? This question was tied to the problem of reductionism and received different answers, which led to different ways of practicing quantum chemistry and eventually stabilized its identity as an in-between/ boundary discipline. During its subsequent development the question of disciplinary identity continued to be central, as quantum chemistry established connections to other disciplines and was deeply shaped by computing technology. In this chapter we discuss the historical development of quantum chemistry, integrating several strands, conceptual, institutional, methodological, and epistemological.

Nikolaos-Ioannis Koskinas wirft in seinem Beitrag einen komparatistischen Blick auf ein griechisches und ein deutschsprachiges Theaterstück – Fräulein Unglück (Δεσποινίς Δυστυχία, 2018) von Tsimaras Tzanatos und Die Verfassung der Strände (2012) von dem österreichischen Dramatiker Stephan Lack. Beide Werke stellen den maritimen Raum ins Zentrum und setzen sich kritisch mit anthropogenen Umweltveränderungen aus-einander. Während Lack bei der Behandlung der Problematik Mensch-Umwelt eine anthropozentrische Perspektive einnimmt, wird das Meer in dem Stück von Tzanatos zum eigentlichen Protagonisten und die menschlichen Akteure treten zugunsten einer dezentrierten Perspektive eher in den Hintergrund, die die Vielschichtigkeit der weit über den Menschen hinausreichenden Natur widerspiegeln soll.

The chapter is on how social issues influence teachers’ use of digital resources in mathematics classrooms. The study is on an experienced, digitally competent, Danish teacher, Sofia, and one question is how her use of digital resources relates to her shifting professional identities. To address the question, a framework called Patterns of Participation, PoP, is used, one that draws on the notions of practice and figured worlds from social practice theory and of self and interaction from symbolic interactionism. Another question is whether PoP is helpful for understanding how Sofia contributes to classroom interaction when using digital resources. Sofia’s case was previously analysed with another framework, Structuring Features of Classroom Practice, which is developed to study teachers’ expertise and development in relation to digital resources. The PoP perspective supplements the previous and primarily descriptive account by providing explanations for how digital resources are used in Sofia’s classrooms, including a focus on procedures and a paucity of attention to conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning. These explanations relate to Sofia’s identities, understood as her professional experiences of being, becoming and belonging. The PoP analysis, then, offers contextual interpretations and explanations of teachers' acts as related to broader social enterprises beyond classroom interactions.

Athens emerges as a paradox in travel literature; it is both a site of timeless monuments and a city in constant metamorphosis. From the late seventeenth to the twenty-first century, a great number of travelogues have revealed the changing identity of Athens and the ways in which its images were circulated and interpreted through the centuries. Classical imagery became the symbol of Athens through its first detailed descriptions by early travelers, while eighteenth- and nineteenth-century scholars, writers, and artists negotiated impulses to idealize, admire, or even satirize the city Athens in their secular pilgrimages. When Athens became the capital of the new nation after the GreekWar of Independence, its symbolic significance increased, suggesting not only the continuity with antiquity but also the divided position of Greece between past and present, East and West, the ideal and the real. Following its transformation into a modern metropolis, Athens continues to challenge travel writers to capture its ambiguity and explore its mythologies and traumas.

Romans 6,1-14 is central to Pauline thought, both in the letter to the Romans and in the Apostle’s theology as a whole, and this is the reason for its multifaceted history of interpretation, influence, and reception. While this text has many interpretative and hermeneutical dimensions, in this essay we will select an exegetical approach, with emphasis on the detailed examination of its structure, flow, terminology, and theo- logical content. Due to its particular theme, we will mainly focus on the interplay between the terms and theological ideas relating to the concepts of death, life, and resurrection, while also linking christology, ethics, and soteriology to each other.

The chapter is on how to analyse classroom situations and students’ evolving conceptualisation of function as covariation at upper secondary level in authentic modelling situations involving the use of digital tools. To address this aim we take a networking perspective to develop a framework by combining Connected Working Spaces and Abstraction in Context. We privilege authentic modelling tasks utilising the potential of different models and the use of digital environments offering integrated algebraic and geometrical representations of function. Another question is how the combination of the two frameworks can help to make sense of students’ evolutions in the path from physical context to algebra. The combined analyses based on the two frameworks allow a deeper look at students’ cognitive evolution as they experience functions in a plurality of settings: physical context, geometry, measures, algebra. Connected Working Spaces allows distinguishing these settings and their connections focusing on instrumental, semiotic and discursive dimensions and their coordination in students’ work. Abstraction in Context offers concepts and expected strategies and an account of knowledge construction within and between these settings allowing to make sense of students’ progress.

If “the past is a foreign country”, then Greece’s classical past could be described – and it has been – as an ideal, as well as idyllic land, colonized by the West. This paper employs post-colonial theory combined with discussions of trauma as a historical agent in order to investigate ways in which contemporary Greek museums and archaeological sites strive to attract the colonial gaze by reclaiming ownership of the nation’s (neo)-classical past; at the same time, however, this exercise may be seen as an effort to alleviate the pains of modernity as experienced by a people who has never overcome the trauma of its separation from its famed antiquity. As a result, Greek archaeological spaces – both museums and sites – can be described as “sites of trauma”, as the placescapes where the unlived experiences of an imagined past become revived. A number of examples are discussed, including the Benaki and Acropolis Museums, as well as several clusters of antiquities preserved “in situ”, mostly within the urban grid or incorporated in buildings and other structures, such as Athenian metro stations. Such cases of incidental archaeology, the paper contends, are devised in order to suture, in the psychoanalytical sense of the term, Greek national imaginary onto the very sites where the nation experienced the trauma of its separation from its past.

El presente trabajo pretende demostrar que la distancia tipológica entre las lenguas extranjeras (LE) que conoce un estudiante y la LE que quiere aprender es un factor que determina el aprendizaje del léxico de esta última. Más concretamente, diversos estudios han mostrado que, cuando las lenguas en cuestión pertenecen a la misma familia, se hace más fácil el aprendizaje del léxico en la LE que se está aprendiendo. Esto sucede porque los estudiantes que conocen otras LE de la misma rama lingüística tienden a transferir vocabulario a la LE que están  estudiando, por lo que logran mejores resultados que los que no poseen tales conocimientos. Para comprobarlo, se requieren informantes cuya lengua materna no sea románica. Por eso, sometemos a dos grupos de estudiantes griegos del mismo nivel en español (B2), pero que conocen diferentes LE, a una prueba de disponibilidad léxica con el fin de medir su competencia en vocabulario. Más específicamente, analizamos las respuestas de un grupo de aprendices griegos de español que ya conoce otra LE que no es románica (en este caso inglés), en comparación con las de otro que ya conoce una LE románica (aquí, francés o italiano) además de una no románica (inglés). Asimismo, analizamos aspectos cuantitativos y cualitativos de las respuestas en seis centros de interés. Los resultados reflejan la relación positiva entre el conocimiento de otras LE románicas y la cantidad y la variedad de respuestas arrojadas.

In this paper, we discuss spectral properties of Laplacians associated with an arbitrary smooth distribution on a compact manifold. First, we give a survey of results on generalized smooth distributions on manifolds, Riemannian structures and associated Laplacians. Then, under the assumption that the singular foliation generated by the distribution is regular, we prove that the Laplacian associated with the distribution defines an unbounded multiplier on the foliation C*-algebra. To this end, we give the construction of a parametrix.

The chapter focuses on the attempts of a group of mathematics teacher educators (MTEs) to support teachers in exploiting workplace situations in their mathematics teaching. We report on MTEs’ professional learning in the context of a European-funded project which brought together 18 partners from 13 countries. In Greece, 11 MTEs (academic researchers, teachers and mentors) with different research and teacher education experiences worked with thirteen groups of practising teachers who collaborated to plan, enact and reflect on lessons aligned to the aims of the project. The project provided substantial opportunities for challenging MTEs’ professional knowledge and teacher education practice. The analysis of the discussions during a series of meetings, where design and reflection on professional development activities took place, allowed for identifying and describing MTEs’ concerns and emerging tensions. Using the construct of boundary crossing we traced shifts in MTEs’ movements across different practices indicating an interplay of research, teacher education and mathematics teaching.

In this chapter several psychoanalytic views on the origins of beneficial solitude, its developmental course during the first years of life, and its implications for later development are discussed, evaluated, and organized around three dimensions: the solitary self, the ability to be alone, and the necessity of being alone, as well as the companionable nature of solitude. These views belong to different psychoanalytic models, such as the Freudian drive/structure and the object relations model. Conclusions are drawn and future directions are described, concerning the paradox of solitude, which is argued to be evident from the beginning of life.

Minimizing portfolio insurance (PI) costs is an investment strategy of great importance. In this chapter, by converting the classical minimum-cost PI (MCPI) problem to a multi-period MCPI (MPMCPI) problem, we define and investigate the MPMCPI under transaction costs (MPMCPITC) problem as a nonlinear programming (NLP) problem. The problem of MCPI gets more genuine in this way. Given the fact that such NLP problems are widely handled by intelligent algorithms, we are introducing a well-tuned approach that can solve the challenging MPMCPITC problem. In our portfolios’ applications, we use real-world data and, along with some of the best memetic meta-heuristic and commercial methods, we provide a solution to the MPMCPITC problem, and we compare their solutions to each other.

he testimony of the French diplomat Félix de Beaujour in the late 18th century regarding the Turkish name of the celebrated Incantadas triggered a series of creative interpretations of the phrase sureth maleh. Besides the issue of the meaning of this name, the relation of the city’s Muslim community with the particular antiquities and their stories remains relatively unknown and understudied. Using as starting point the work of the poet Ahmet Meşhûrî (1783-1857), this study attempts a preliminary reading of 19th century Ottoman literary and historiographical sources about Thessaloniki. It aims to map the broader conceptual framework within which the perception and the way the Muslim community related to remnants of the past and to this particular monument can be placed. This corpus of texts is historically situated at the threshold of Ottoman modernity, which, among other factors, is defined by the construction of a primary archaeological conscience by the Ottoman state, but also of the conceptualization of the city’s heritage. The aim of this critical read- ing is to highlight the contradictions and ambiguities of this process.

This chapter first summarizes the fundamentals of classical electrodynamics in continuous media, placing emphasis on the optical response of gyrotropic materials. It, subsequently, develops in a concise but rigorous manner the scattering- and transfer-matrix methods for general stratified photonic media, based on a versatile six-vector formulation of Maxwell equations. Applications are reported for periodic and defect one-dimensional (1D) magnetophotonic structures in different configurations. A consistent interpretation of some remarkable phenomena, such as occurrence of photonic gaps and localized defect modes, enhanced magnetooptical effects, non-reciprocal optical response, etc., is provided through a thorough analysis of relevant dispersion diagrams in conjunction with transmission/reflection spectra. Finally, the concept of a dual optomagnonic cavity, formed in judiciously designed stratified magnetophotonic structures, for strong photon–magnon interaction is introduced. Methods for its theoretical description, namely the Green’s function-based perturbation expansion, the quasi-static adiabatic approximation, and a fully dynamic time-Floquet approach, are developed, and their accuracy and limits of validity are assessed. Proof-of-concept demonstrations are presented for enhanced interaction of light, trapped in optical defect modes, with perpendicular standing spin waves, in a dielectric magnetic film sandwiched between two dielectric Bragg mirrors.

Η UNCLOSΙΙΙ, παρέχει ένα επίσημο νομικό πλαίσιο για τους Ωκεανούς και οι χώρες που την έχουν υπογράψει δεσμεύονται από αυτό. Η ενδεδειγμένη από το διεθνές δίκαιο λύση μιας διαφοράς και τα όρια που τίθενται από αυτό, επιδρούν στην ανακατανομή της ισχύος στο γεωπολιτικώς αναλυόμενο Σύμπλοκο/Σύστημα. Συνεπώς, δεν θα πρέπει να παραλειφθεί το γεγονός ότι η δικανική κρίση επί συγκεκριμένης διακρατικής διαφοράς παραμένει ένα πολύ σημαντικό στοιχείο για την ενίσχυση της εγκυρότητας του γεωπολιτικού υποδείγματος τάσεων ανακατανομής της ισχύος. Στον Αρκτικό Ωκεανό τα παράκτια κράτη προβάλουν αμυντική ισχύ. Αξιοσημείωτο είναι το γεγονός ότι στα πλαίσια της «Expedition Arktika 2007», η Ρωσία πραγματοποίησε την πρώτη κάθοδο στον πυθμένα του Αρκτικού Ωκεανού. Η αποστολή τοποθέτησε σημαία από τιτάνιο στο βυθό του Αρκτικού ωκεανού, 4 χλμ. κάτω από το Βόρειο Πόλο, ακολούθησαν έντονες αντιδράσεις και έγινε πρώτη αναφορά στο ζήτημα της υφαλοκρηπίδας στην περιοχή.Συνεπώς, η παρούσα μελέτη περιλαμβάνει το νομικό μέρος, στο οποίο αναλύονται οι διατάξεις της UNCLOS σχετικά με την οριοθέτηση της υφαλοκρηπίδας και ειδικότερα, την Επιτροπή για τα Όρια της Υφαλοκρηπίδας, η σχετική νομολογία και η διαδικασία οριοθέτησης μέχρι και τις σημερινές εξελίξεις. Κατόπιν, η νομική ανάλυση θα τοποθετηθεί μέσα στο πλαίσιο της συστημικής γεωπολιτικής ανάλυσης, με προσδοκώμενο στόχο την κατασκευή γεωπολιτικού υποδείγματος τάσεων ανακατανομής της ισχύος.

Η συμβολή στον Τόμο αναφέρεται στο επίκαιρο και πολύπλοκο βιοηθικό θέμα της ευθανασίας και συγκεκριμένα στη διερεύνηση από θρησκειολογική σκοπιά της  επιλογής του ασθενούς να τερματίσει τη ζωή του, επιζητώντας ιατρική βοήθεια.

Εξετάζεται η πολιτική και στρατηγική της Αθήνας προς την Τουρκία, μετά τα τέλη της μεταψυχροπολεμικής δεκαετίας και μέχρι το 2019, θέτοντας στο επίκεντρο του προβληματισμού την κατανόηση της σημασίας μιας εσωτερικής παραμέτρου, της συναίνεσης, η οποία είναι μάλλον αγνοημένη στο πλαίσιο της μελέτης των ελληνοτουρκικών σχέσεων. Συγκεκριμένα διαπιστώνεται ότι, ενώ επί μία εικοσαετία έχει υπάρξει σταθερή πολιτική συναίνεση όσον αφορά την πολιτική βελτίωσης των ελληνοτουρκικών σχέσεων, δεν έχει υπάρξει συναίνεση όσον αφορά την αναγκαιότητα υποστήριξης αυτής της πολιτικής από μια στρατηγική η οποία δύναται να οδηγήσει σε συνεννόηση με την Τουρκία όσον αφορά την κύρια διμερή διαφορά, δηλαδή την οριοθέτηση της υφαλοκρηπίδας αλλά και τη συνολικότερη οριοθέτηση των θαλασσίων ζωνών. Παράλληλα, επιδιώκεται να αναδειχθεί ότι η διαιώνιση μιας μονολιθικής και απλουστευτικής ‘εικόνας’ για τις ελληνοτουρκικές σχέσεις και την Τουρκία αποτελεί παράγοντα που έχει συμβάλει αποφασιστικά στην αδυναμία οικοδόμησης μιας τέτοιας συναίνεσης.

Abstract CHRISTOS KARAKOLIS: The Preexistence of Jesus in Mark’s Gospel from an Old Testament Perspective Despite the fact that the Gospel of Mark does not clearly refer to the pre-existence of Jesus Christ, there are significant indications that it is both implied and presupposed. Among the various theories relevant to this issue one can discern the interpretation of Mark 1:2-3 as a passage referring to a heavenly dialogue between God and His Son prior to the beginning of John the Baptist’s preaching in the world, the preaching that will prepare the course of the Son of God in the world. Following the interpretation of Mark 1:1-3 a translational deficit is highlighted that comes from the non-clarification of the identity of these two heavenly discussants. Although, some translations highlight the fact that in v.2 the conversing subject is indeed God, there is no translation that names the other conversant. This is, indeed, a necessary aspect that should be presented in a dynamic translation so that the reader will be able to un- derstand from the onset the Christological teaching of the Gospel of Mark.

The study attempts to trace the route followed by the Byzantine Empire, on both thepolitical and the constitutional plane, from the seventh to the eleventh century, whichultimately led, at the end of the period in question, to Alexios I issuing a chrysobull thatgranted a woman, namely his mother Anna Dalassene, full rights to rule in his name,while he left the capital to face the Norman invasion.In order for the phenomenon of women exercising power in Byzantium to be understood,the study is prefaced by a relatively brief reference to women –every single oneof them an Augusta– who exercised power as part of their constitutional role, from Martina,widow of Heraclius, to Eudokia Makrembolitissa, widow of Constantine X Doukas.The main part of the paper focuses on the case of the ‘purple-born’ sisters Zoe and Theodora,since their reign and the way contemporary historians treated the sisters’ rise tothe throne and how the two of them exercised power illustrate the changes that hadtransformed the institution of co-rulership/regency, as well as ‘hereditary’ successionand how it impacted on the collective mentality of the Byzantines, even when it pavedthe way for a woman to find herself alone at the helm of the state.Through a comparison of the narratives of Michael Psellos, John Skylitzes and MichaelAttaleiates, the study proposes a new view of the ‘reign’ of Zoe Porhpyrogenita andbrings to life a personage that was far more sensible and active than the one we usuallycome across in modern historiography.

Η συγγραφή του άρθρου για τον Τόμο έγινε την εποχή της συζήτησης για τα κριτήρια  και την προτεραιότητα στον εμβολιασμό για τη νόσο COVID-19, ένα σχεδόν μήνα πριν τον πρώτο εμβολιασμό στην Ελλάδα (Δεκέμβριος 2020). Η μελέτη του άρθρου θα πρέπει να να λάβει υπόψη αυτό το χρονικό σημείο, καθώς οι εξελίξεις σχετικά με την απροθυμία μέρους του πληθυσμού στον εμβολιασμό δεν επιβεβαίωσαν την αρχική άποψη ότι αυτός θα γινόταν μαζικά και συνεπώς θα έπρεπε να μπουν κριτήρια για την προτεραιότητα της χορήγησης εμβολίου.

This paper addresses the issue of the relationship holding between abstract and morphological case by examining differential case marking in Asia Mi- nor Greek. Asia Minor Greek dialects have nominative–accusative case systems with overt case exponents; significantly, in these dialects definiteness affects the case marking of the argument either by forcing it to appear in a default case or by marking the relevant definiteness specification by means of a certain (mor- phologically overt) case. I argue that these phenomena do not derive from functional factors, such as the typicality of subject/object, distinctiveness or iconicity, and I present evidence that the relevant abstract Case is always licensed on DP-arguments in these dialects, even in differential case marking situations, and that the surface morphological case is conditioned by morphological factors. Based on this evidence, I claim that differential case marking in such systems is morphological in nature and derives from postsyntactic impoverishment rules at Morphological Structure that affect the feature constitution of the case terminal node resulting in its differentiating exponence and the non-isomorphism between abstract and morphological case.

From the onset of the so-called “Greek crisis” (a sovereign-debt default in late 2009 and the subsequent, and ongoing, attempts on behalf of successive Greek governments at securing adequate bailout aid from the EU and the IMF), a new breed of biopolitics seems to have been in place. Classical antiquity has always played a crucial part in the forging of modern Greek social and cultural identities; in the framework of the “Greek crisis”, however, classical heritage and its visual output has been used both as an emancipatory tool against the country’s debtors as well as a disciplinary device on behalf of its critics. In this paper, a number of earlier and more recent Athenian graffiti will be discussed, directly or indirectly incorporating themes from Greek art in order to express their makers’ sentiments – as well as the frustrations of their public at large. Contrasting unauthorized examples of Athenian street art with some centrally-sponsored recent examples also employing classicizing imageries, the paper will explore the ways in which classical heritage finds itself entangled with the neoliberal biopolitics at work in Greece since 2009.

Greek exhibits dialectal and diachronic variation in the cliticization pattern of weak pronouns. In Standard Modern Greek, clitics are strictly preverbal with finite non- imperative verb forms, whereas in the southeastern dialects, as well as in Byzantine and Medieval Greek, clitics seem to obey a second position requirement, since they are preverbal when a function word precedes the verb and postverbal otherwise. A comparison with the adverbal Romance cliticization system and the second position cliticization system of Slavic languages reveals that Greek clitics are neither C- nor v*-related elements and cliticization involves clitic movement to the T-layer. We further argue that the attested variation results from the ways PF (Phonetic Form) processes the syntactic output of this movement. Finally, we show that the two systems are diachronically related to each other by means of a prosodic reanalysis that resulted in the evolution of the non-second position system of Standard Modern Greek from the second position system of Medieval Greek.

In the current study, the challenges, the priorities and the systemic opportunitiesregarding Greece’s strategic behavior and its overall policy initiatives in the Aegean in the post-Cold War era are described and analyzed. In accordance with the Dardanelles Strait, the Aegean Sea represents an integral part of a trade passage of great significance for the regional balance of power, as well as for the planet-level effects on the balance of power among the Great Powers.Hence, the strategic behavior of the littoral states - Greece and Turkey - owns distinctive value for the geopolitics of the Greater Middle East, especially in the aftermath of the end of the bipolar order of the international system. This is examined in the light of the questions above: What are the static geopolitical aspects determining the balance of power in the Aegean Sea and what are the new challenges of the post-Cold War system?What are the political-strategic initiatives taken by Greece and what is the level of effectiveness within the framework of national interest implementation?The crux of the matter relates to the great geopolitical significance of the trade sea passage of Dardanelles-Aegean and the position of the intervening actors on the climax of power not permitting them to act as the sole geopolitical factors. This is implemented by the super-systemic actors and of course, the dominating naval powers, as it was the case of the U.S. in the post-war era. Nevertheless, the strategy of small and middle powers may give answers to such challenges when leadership capacity and strategic plans will exist in an active way vis-à-vis the inter-state dilemmas, especially when referring to Greece owning - according to the International Law of Seas - the dominant role in the Aegean Sea.For instance, the plan and implementation of patron-client relations could contribute productively towards this aim via the interconnection of interests and the cultivation of a situation of mutual commitment between the dominating naval power and Athens. On the contrary, the failure of Greece to move towards this choice deals with the overall failure of Greece’s strategy in the Aegean Sea in the post-Cold era, referring to deterrence credibility, managing security dilemmas and last but not least, balancing the Turkish threat.

En 1880 fut votée en France la loi relative à la création par l’État de l’enseignement secondaire de jeunes filles. Se posa dès lors la question du sexe du personnel qui allait se charger de l’enseignement dans les nouveaux établissements féminins. Dans son rapport de 1880 à la Chambre, Camille Sée, promoteur de l’œuvre, suggérait : « À mesure qu’il se présentera des femmes capables de donner l’enseignement, on devra les préférer et cela pour deux raisons : toutes les carrières sont fermées à la femme […] ; […] nous trouvons chez elle des qualités que nous chercherons en vain chez l’homme ». Par cette proposition le député républicain demandait, en substance, l’ouverture d’une nouvelle carrière intellectuelle pour les femmes. Son intervention impliquait, en même temps, néanmoins, la suppression d’un monopole masculin : le métier de professeur, étroitement associé au savoir et, subséquemment, à la raison et à l’abstraction, était, jusque-là, réservé « par nature » aux hommes. L’invention du « professeur femme » par la Troisième République se fit dans le cadre d’une entreprise de large envergure visant à la laïcisation de l’enseignement. Concrètement, ce nouveau corps féminin devait être investi de la mission d’arracher les jeunes bourgeoises, futures épouses et mères, à l’influence de l’Église. Sous ce rapport, des républicains, soucieux de ne point nuire au succès d’une œuvre si importante à leurs yeux pour la stabilité du régime même, s’employèrent, d’une part, à faire intégrer cette nouvelle figure de professionnelle à la norme féminine en la dotant des qualités de chasteté, de dévouement et d’abnégation caractérisant la religieuse qu’elle était appelée à remplacer dans le domaine de l’éducation des filles ; à lui procurer, d’autre part, une formation spécifique, adéquate à ses fonctions dans les nouveaux lycées féminins. Le but était, tout d’abord, de préparer les futures professeures à leurs responsabilités morales ; de leur donner, ensuite, accès à un savoir supérieur, certes, mais ayant tout de même un genre. Pour répondre à ces impératifs, les républicains fondèrent en 1881 à Sèvres une École normale supérieure, pendant féminin de celle qui fonctionnait pour les jeunes hommes, depuis le début du XIXe siècle, rue d’Ulm. Le présent traavail se propose de reconstituer – à travers l’étude de textes administratifs, de la presse spécialisée et associative de l’époque et de témoignages autobiographiques – la première grande étape de l’histoire fascinante de ce temple du savoir féminin sous la Troisième République.  L’accent est mis en particulier sur l’évolution des finalités d’une formation destinée à des femmes, sur les mutations du genre dans les programmes d’études et sur l’organisation des concours. Enfin, sont examinées les avancées vers l’assimilation avec la formation des professeurs hommes. The present work proposes to reconstruct the first major stage in the fascinating history of the École Normale Supérieure for young girls which took place in Sèvres itself. Particular emphasis is placed on the evolution of the aims of training for women, gender changes in curricula and in the organization of national competitions for professors. Finally, the progress towards assimilation with the training of male professors is examined.  

El presente trabajo pretende investigar el uso de los extranjerismos como estrategia de comunicación en la producción escrita de aprendices griegos de español. Según la teorías, el uso de las estrategias de comunicación basadas en la lengua materna y en los conocimientos de otras LE tienden a disminuir a medida que avanza el nivel lingüístico de los aprendices de LE. Además, se ha demostrado que uno de los factores que regula dicho proceso es la distancia lingüística entre la LM, la lengua que está aprendiendo el alumno y las otras LE que conoce. En este estudio en concreto, utilizando la metodología del Análisis de Errores analizamos los extranjerismos de la producción escrita de 3 grupos de aprendices griegos de español de diferente nivel lingüístico en español (B1, B2, C1), que conocen diferentes LE. Los resultados del análisis cuantitativo muestran que el uso de los extranjerismos tiende a disminuir a medida que avanza el nivel lingüístico en español. Mientras que los resultados del análisis cualitativo indican que los aprendices griegos a la hora de emplear la estrategia de los extranjerismos no se basan en su lengua materna sino más bien en las otras LE que conocen.

Mezirow was introduced to Gould’s ideas in the mid-1970s, when the latter was practicing psychiatry at UCLA Outpatient and Community Psychiatry Center. At that time, Mezirow was in the early stages developing his theory of transformation and became particularly interested in the work that Gould was carrying out with psychodynamic groups in psychiatric settings. In 1980, Mezirow was granted a Teacher’s College sabbatical and was invited by Gould to spend some months as a counsellor in his laboratory. Gould and Mezirow had distinct routes and professional origins that are important to bear in mind in any type of comparison or analogue that one would like to draw. Gould was a psychiatrist and an expert in adult developmental psychology. He was not involved in educational theory. At the time he met Mezirow, Gould was focusing his research interests on the developmental stages of adult life through group observation methods and analyses that included life narratives of psychiatrists, treatment staff, and patients with mental health problems. These studies formed the basis of Gould’s theory of individual change and perhaps his most significant theoretical contribution on developmental psychology and adult theory of change. Later, Gould (1990, 1995, 1996) developed a computer-assisted self-help Therapeutic Learning Program (TLP) focused on the treatment of eating disorders and the anxiety that is associated with them. The program was accompanied in 2008 by the publication of the self-help manual Shrink Yourself (Gould, 2008), that was widely accepted in the United States, where eating disorders seem to be a major concern. Gould’s theory on adult developmental stages and subsequent transformations exerted an important influence on Mezirow’s concept of perspective transformation. Therefore, the relationship between Gould and Mezirow deserves attention in a volume dedicated to Transformation Theory.

According to Piaget, the attainment of formal operational thought (between the ages of 12 and 15 years) is the final stage of cognitive development, preparing the adolescent to efficiently adapt to the adult world. Piaget regarded formal thinking as propositional, abstract, hypothetico-deductive, combinatory, and reflective, allowing for the conception of both the possible and the real. This entry discusses the fundamental mechanisms that lead to the acquisition of formal thought, along with its specific manifestations. Finally, it presents an overview of the criticism of the Piagetian theoretical standpoint.

A plethora of scholarly works have been published on male Western travelers in the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea regions, however the accounts of female travel writers drawing attention to experiences hidden from history could also be a welcome addition or an alternative discourse with a gender perspective. Motivated by a cross-examination of the original accounts of 240 Western women travelers in Ottoman territories in the 17th to 19th centuries, showing that over 6000 women travelled and experienced the Orient (Kamberidou 2017, 2016, 2015a), this paper continues the research, examining women’s contributions in times of conflict. As early as the 17th century, women have been going from one corner of the world to the other witnessing historic events, war and conflict, religious persecutions, pillaging and the removal or destruction of antiquities, and writing about it. The firsthand accounts of 252 European and American women travelers of the 17th to early 20th centuries in Asia Minor, Cyprus, Syria, Egypt, Greece and other Ottoman occupied territories confirm that thousands of women travelled and witnessed historic events. Women from Great Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria and America explored, visited, resided as permanent residents, worked or served as volunteers, missionaries, educators, nurses, artists, governesses, ladies in waiting and servants of the western or eastern elite in different regions of the Ottoman Empire. This paper begins with a brief discussion on women travelers, subsequently focusing on 19th Century accounts regarding women’s contributions in times of conflict, exclusively from archival sources: the narratives of women volunteers, nurses, care givers and morale builders during the Crimean War (1853-1856), when the colonial experience encouraged female engagement. The accounts of English, French and German women who cared for the soldiers in the military hospitals of Constantinople and its environs reveal that women played key roles in social care, public health and hospital management, showing initiative and innovation in crisis management. The female accounts describe the British military and naval hospitals; the nurses duties and hardships (1,500 patients per 3 women: two lady volunteers and one nurse); the hundreds of women who followed their husbands to war; the demoralizing barrack system; the degrading social status and abuse of the English soldier’s wife and babies; the elevated status and protection enjoyed by the French soldier’s wife; the French military system. The female narratives argue that the French soldiers, as opposed to the English, are educated, industrious, productive and creative, adding to the general good. They spotlight the superiority of the French soldiers as regards their manners, morals, courtesy, organizational skills, patriotism and especially their respect and treatment of women. Der Zusammenbruch des NS-Regimes signalisierte für die westdeutsche Kunst eine deutliche Distanzierung von Politik. „Der Stellvertreter“ führt einen Wendepunkt herbei und verwandelt das Theater wieder in ein Politikum. Hochhuth richtet den Blick auf die verdrängte Vergangenheit, in dem er am Beispiel des Schweigens der katholischen Kirche während des Holocaust die Frage der individuellen Verantwortung bzw. Schuld untersucht. Auschwitz wird erstmals auf die Bühne gebracht und das Stück löst eine Repolitisierungswelle aus, so dass es mit Recht als Vorläufer des Dokumentartheaters gilt. Auch „Vor dem Ruhestand“ ist politisches Theater par excellence in dem Sinne, dass es Partei ergreift, irritiert, die bestehende Ordnung in Frage stellt. Illusionslos entdeckt Bernhard hinter der Fassade eines bürgerlich-demokratischen Staates das Fortbestehen der nationalsozialistischen Ideologie, nicht nur in Extremfällen, sondern auch in sozialen Strukturen und Gedankenmuster der sozialen Elite. Im Gegensatz zu Hochhuth, der immer noch fest an die Macht des bürgerlichen Individuums glaubt, dient Faschismus Bernhard als Musterbeispiel für die verfallenden bürgerlichen politischen Systeme.

The present paper aims to investigate the characteristics of the kingdom of God and the ethical presuppositions for entering it. The study is limited to the witness of the synoptic gospels. The approach to the issue at hand is a synchronic one based on the method of reader-response criticism. Concretely, the gospels are read through the lens of an assumed ancient reader of the synoptic gospels who is well-versed in Greek literature and compares the concept of the kingdom of God with the one of Athenian democracy according to Pericles’s Epitaph in Thucydides.From an ethical point of view, the kingdom of God exceeds by far even the ideal democracy. Contrary to the latter, the kingdom of God is entirely peaceful, treats all its citizens as equals, invites all human beings to enter it but leaves them free to decide for themselves whether or not they wish to. The only fight its prospective citizens have to give is against demonic powers and their own negative inclinations. Differently from Pericles’s Epitaph, in God’s kingdom, active love towards all, enemies included, is the quintessence of ethics. To receive God’s kingdom, human beings have to love God more than anything else and their neighbor like themselves. They also have to be forgiving, self-denying, and self-sacrificing without expecting to be rewarded in the present world. On their way to the kingdom of God, they belong to those mourning, crying, and being persecuted. Earthly honor does not matter at all; the sinners, the poor, and the outliers are the first to enter the kingdom. In sum, the ethical standards for belonging to God’s kingdom are much higher than those of the citizens of the Athenian democracy. Most importantly, though, the ethics of God’s kingdom is founded on faith in Jesus Christ, the true Son of God, whose earthly presence inaugurates his and his Father’s kingdom.

H Ελλάδα (ως κράτος, ως πολιτεία και ως κοινωνία) διέρχεται μια πολυσχιδή και πολυσήμαντη κρίση τα τελευταία 10 χρόνια. Στη διάρκεια αυτής της περιόδου (2007-2018) έχουν πραγματοποιηθεί και εκπαιδευτικές μεταρρυθμίσεις, μεγαλύτερης, ή μικρότερης εμβέλειας, υπό διαφορετικές κυβερνήσεις. Εάν στα πλαίσια μιας «λειτουργικής» θεώρησης, η οποία, αφενός, ερμηνεύει τον τρόπο διασύνδεσης των δομικών στοιχείων του κοινωνικού, ενώ, αφετέρου, κριτικά, αναστοχάζεται επί της επίτευξης -ή μη- αυτής της διασύνδεσης (ενώ, αντιθέτως, οι συγκρουσιακές θεωρήσεις αναφέρονται στις επιπτώσεις των επιλογών -με έμφαση σε όσες κατασκευάζουν ανισότητες, πειθαρχίες, αποκλεισμούς, κ.τ.λ.- κατά την κοινωνική θέσμιση) θεωρήσουμε ότι ένα από τα ζητούμενα μιας εκπαιδευτικής μεταρρύθμισης είναι η προσαρμογή και διασύνδεση της εκπαίδευσης με την οικονομία και τις κοινωνικές ανάγκες (όπως, επί παραδείγματι, φαίνεται μέσα από τις ανακοινώσεις εργοδοτικών και άλλων κοινωνικών φορέων), μέσω της παρεχόμενης σχολικής γνώσης, με την πρότασή μας επιχειρούμε να διερευνήσουμε τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η πολιτική ηγεσία (και οι πολιτικά κυρίαρχοι φορείς δράσης) διερμήνευσε και αντιμετώπισε αυτές τις ανάγκες κυρίως ως προς το επίπεδο της παρεχόμενης σχολικής γνώσης, καθώς φαίνεται ότι αυτή αποτελεί έναν από τους βασικούς πυρήνες διαμόρφωσης της κοινωνίας (βλ. Apple 1982, 1986, Bernstein 1991, 1996, Jackson 1992, κ.α.). Βασικός στόχος, συνεπώς, της ανακοίνωσης είναι η διερεύνηση των αιτιών της διαφαινόμενης ασυνέχειας μεταξύ εκπαιδευτικής πολιτικής και κοινωνικο-οικονομικής πραγματικότητας, ως προς τις επιλογές στο επίπεδο της σχολικής γνώσης (είτε πρόκειται για περιόδους κρίσεων, είτε για κρίσεις που προκαλούνται από τις επιλογές στην εκπαίδευση). Η βασική μεθοδολογική προσέγγιση θα είναι η ιστορικοσυγκριτική, καθώς θα εξεταστούν τα ιστορικά τεκμήρια καθέτως, για να φανεί το επίπεδο στο οποίο η κρίση γίνεται αντιληπτή και οριζοντίως για να φανεί η χρονική συνέχεια, ή ασυνέχεια στις επιλογές. Ως συμπέρασμα μπορεί κανείς να θεωρήσει τον προεξάρχοντα ρόλο του πολιτικού πεδίου και την κατίσχυσή του έναντι όλων των άλλων κοινωνικών πεδίων.

Nonalcoholic beverages such as juices and juice beverages, soft drinks, energy drinks, milk, and soy beverages provide a variety of health benefits. Many of them contain water-soluble nutrients, which consist of great resources of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. The consumption of these products comprises a significant part of the daily diet as from freshly squeezed juice to processed fortified beverages. One of the most important nutrients of these beverages are vitamins either fat-soluble (A, D) or water-soluble (B-complex, C) that are essential for human life and for normal body function. Nowadays, the food industry is interested in nutritionally rich foods and beverages with vitamins in order to replace the losses during storage and processing or to enable a nutritional label claim on the product. At the same time, consumers choose fresh, fortified beverages enhancing their diet and their health. This chapter is an effort to classify the vitamins in fresh and processed nonalcoholic beverages and their nutritional importance. Several analytical methodologies for their determination in different food matrices (fruits, vegetables, and their products), mainly chromatographic methods, are presented. Because of their instability, it is necessary to focus on the extraction procedure that will not cause their degradation.

In these days, the agro-food economy is focused on the consumer demands regarding safety, quality, and security of food. Traceability of wine can be defined as a method through which anybody in the wine supply chain can be able to verify the origin and composition of wines and its conditions of storage. Traceability ensures the registration on specific documents of all manipulations of basic materials, ingredients, and final products. They are created to allow a rapid identification of the product history. The wine supply chain requires traceability from grape production to processing and wine distribution. Authenticity of wine has been extensively examined as wine is an easily adulterated product because it has high alcohol content and low pH and also is available worldwide. Responsible and continuous controls are required to maintain the quality of wine. Usually volatile compounds are used to characterize varieties, whereas minerals are used for geographical differentiation. Amino acids as well as phenolic compounds evaluation are used for both. The growth of advanced techniques for wines authentication is a challenge, which currently is given a special focus. Wine adulteration for both variety and origin has been very extensive. Therefore, apart from novel experimental techniques (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma MS, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared and DNA, and among others), it is also used as multivariate analysis comprising principal component analysis, discriminant analysis, canonical analysis, and cluster analysis.

Taking as a point of departure Lord Byron’s reflections on the meaning of the ruined Parthenon, this essay traverses the long legacy of ruin-thinking in the Anglo-American imagination, and argues for its relevance to the present day. Referencing earlier and recent strands in the rich scholarship on the trope of the ruin, the authors contextualize the essays of the volume; particular emphasis is laid on the volume’s especial focus on the ruin as metaphor and as a historical materiality, as these are probed in individual chapters that discuss ruin and ruination across British and American literature, continental theory and philosophy.

El presente trabajo pretende demostrar que las pruebas de disponibilidadléxica pueden servir como pruebas de diagnóstico, yque por ello son de gran ayuda a la hora de decidir qué palabrasenseñar e incluir en una clase de ELE. Diagnosticar el conocimientoléxico es una tarea muy compleja, dado que conocer unapalabra se compone de muchas dimensiones distintas. A pesar dela crítica que ha recibido la metodología de las pruebas de la disponibilidadléxica, pensamos que podría ser una herramienta útilpara identificar las posibles lagunas en el conocimiento de losaprendices de ELE. En este estudio en concreto sometemos a ungrupo de estudiantes griegos de ELE de nivel B1 a la realizaciónde una prueba de disponibilidad léxica. Analizamos aspectos cuantitativosy cualitativos de las respuestas en el centro de interés“Comidas y bebidas” y las comparamos con las “Nociones específicas”del Plan Curricular del Instituto Cervantes. Los resultadosindican que dicha comparación nos permite localizar las carenciasléxicas en el área temática analizada. En este sentido, las pruebasde disponibilidad léxica pueden servir como pruebas de diagnóstico,y podríamos basarnos en sus resultados para planificar nuestraclase antes de empezar a trabajar en el aula un área temáticaconcreta.

El presente trabajo pretende investigar la influencia del conocimiento de varias lenguas extranjeras en la evocación del léxico disponible de aprendices griegos de español. A pesar de que existe la creencia de la existencia de una relación positiva entre el conocimiento de lenguas extranjeras y la disponibilidad léxica, en la investigación encontramos resultados contradictorios. Por una parte, algunas investigaciones han dado prueba de los beneficios lingüísticos del multilingüismo, por otra, hay estudios en psicolingüística que han mostrado que los hablantes multilingües necesitan más tiempo para activar y recuperar las palabras que los monolingües. En este estudio en concreto, sometemos a tres grupos de estudiantes del mismo nivel en español (B2) pero que conocen diferentes lenguas extranjeras a una prueba de disponibilidad léxica. Específicamente, analizamos las respuestas de un grupo de aprendices griegos de español que conocen una lengua extranjera, aparte de la lengua materna y el español, otro que conoce dos lenguas extranjeras, y un grupo que conoce tres lenguas extranjeras y más. Analizamos aspectos cuantitativos y cualitativos de las respuestas en el centro de interés ¨Acciones diarias¨. Los resultados muestran por un lado la relación positiva entre el conocimiento de lenguas extranjeras y la cantidad de respuestas evocadas y por otro la influencia del número de lenguas extranjeras conocidas en el uso de las estrategias de evocación empleadas.   

The aim of this paper is to present and suggest the Most Significant Change as aneffective evaluation methodology of Theatre in Education (TiE) programmes. It is agiven that TiE, as other forms of performative and participatory educational projects,is hard to be assessed and evaluated. It becomes harder due to the lack of adequateresearch in the field and thus the lack of initiatives, data and experience. This paperpresents the “Most Significant Change” (Davies & Dart, 2005) evaluation method asadjusted by the researchers, which was implemented after the TiE programme “StonKosmo tou” (In his world) funded by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation. This isthe first presentation and analysis of a wider study that took place during the schoolyear 2017-2018, where 38 schools, 2185 students and 58 teachers were researchedafter the application of the programme. This paper argues that narratives and storiesmay well serve as an internal process of evaluation of TiE and other educationalparticipatory programmes. It attempts to suggest specific steps of using a well-knownevaluation tool and launch a new approach on the evaluation and assessment of such educational interventions.

RESUMEN: En la novela Cajambre Armando Romero retrata el ambiente socio-cultural del territorio selvático del río Cajambre y reflexiona sobre el modo de vida de sus habitantes. Los personajes femeninos de su obra son complejos e interesantes. La difunta Ruperta, una pobre trabajadora afrocolombiana, es un personaje lleno de misterio, cuya vida amorosa y acción revolucionaria se revela durante el desarrollo de la trama. Por otro lado, otros personajes femeninos como Mar, la joven estudiante de ingeniería forestal, se interesa por las costumbres de la región y el medio ambiente, y Elodia, mujer dinámica y fuerte, se caracteriza por su labor social. El presente trabajo enfoca en el papel determinante del entorno físico y social en la vida de estos personajes para subrayar tanto la explotación de la mujer afrocolombiana como la de la naturaleza. The Cypriot Greek koine displays structural innovations, arguably as a result of prolonged contact with Standard Greek (SG), the ‘H’ variety in the diglossic context of the Greek Cypriot speech community. Periphrastic perfect forms are among such innovations. As regards the Past Perfect, in Standard Greek it has the principal reading of past in the past, as well as a remote past use; in contrast, the Cypriot Greek Past Perfect is largely interchangeable with the Aorist (Simple Perfective Past) and it may be deployed for pragmatic purposes, e.g. to mark an important point in a narrative, possibly due to its relative formality. In recent work it was claimed that this innovation is specific to Cypriot Greek. This paper revisits this hypothesis on the basis of the observation that Standard Greek also seems to display partly similar patterns. Using naturalistic data and data from a grammaticality judgement task, we explore (a) whether such variation is sociolinguistically conditioned and (b) what the semantics and pragmatics of the innovative Past Perfect are in each variety.

This chapter provides a state-of-the-art discussion of the ways in which transformative learning could be fostered in teacher education. It focuses on programmes which aim at raising English language teachers’ awareness of the implications of the current role of English as a lingua franca (ELF), namely as an international contact language. After presenting the challenges which the ELF phenomenon poses nowadays, the transformative model for ELF-aware teacher education put forward by Sifakis is discussed, with reference to its relevance for Mezirow’s transformation theory. The transformative experiences of Kordia during her participation in an ELF-aware teacher education programme are afterwards presented, illustrating the phases of transformation she went through in her attempt to integrate ELF in her teaching practices.

Στο κεφάλαιο αυτό παρουσιάζουμε τους συσχετισμούς ανάμεσα στη Θεωρία Μετασχηματισμού του Mezirow και την εποικοδομητική θεωρία του Robert Kegan. Με βάση την κριτική συζήτηση των επιχειρημάτων που ανέπτυξαν οι δύο θεωρητικοί σχετικά με τις διεργασίες μετασχηματισμού των ενηλίκων, υποστηρίζουμε ότι οι απόψεις τους για τη φύση της μετασχηματίζουσας μάθησης συμπίπτουν σε μεγάλο βαθμό και ότι οι θεωρίες τους, μολονότι διατυπώθηκαν μέσα σε διακριτά επιστημονικά πλαίσια, θα μπορούσαν πραγματικά να αλληλο-εμπλουτιστούν. Με την ολοκλήρωση αυτού του κεφαλαίου ο αναγνώστης θα έχει αποκτήσει μια πλήρη εικόνα όχι μόνο των βασικών αρχών που διέπουν τις θεωρίες του Mezirow και του Kegan, αλλά και, ιδιαιτέρως, του τρόπου με τον οποίο μπορούν να συνδυαστούν και δοκιμαστούν στην πράξη, ώστε να επιτευχθεί μεγαλύτερη αυτοδυναμία των εκπαιδευομένων. Για τον σκοπό αυτόν παρουσιάζουμε το περίγραμμα μιας πρότασης για την εκπαίδευση των εκπαιδευτικών αγγλικής γλώσσας, το οποίο αναφέρεται τους τρόπους ενσωμάτωσης της μετασχηματίζουσας μάθησης στις μεθοδολογικές πρακτικές της διδασκαλίας της Αγγλικής ως διεθνούς γλώσσας επικοινωνίας (lingua franca).

This chapter reports on the work of Working Group 4 and focuses on the integration of digital resources into mathematics teaching and learning practices.There are five central sections, focusing on, instrumental genesis, instrumental orchestration, the documentational approach to didactics, digital resources andteacher education, and the design of learning environments with the use of digital resources. A range of constructs and theoretical approaches are covered in these five sections, and the opening section comments on construct validity and issues in “networking” theoretical frameworks. The chapter can be viewed as a literature review which surveys past and present (at the time of writing) scholarship with an eye to possible future research. The chapter is extensive in several dimensions: a large range of digital resources and applications are considered; the subjects using digital resources are not just teachers but also students, student teachers and student teacher educators. Issues raised in the sections include individual and collective use of resources, the adaptation of these resources for specific learning goals and to prepare (pre- and in-service) teachers for the use of digital resources.

In this article I discuss the nature and function of scientific concepts, what ittakes to possess them, how they can be represented, and how they can be studiedby examining the uses of the scientific terms associated with them. I then examinethe epistemological issues that arise when considering conceptual change.Furthermore, I draw a distinction between concepts referring to manifest entities(accessible to observation) and concepts referring to hidden entities (temporarilyor permanently unobservable). I argue that the function of scientific concepts isdifferent in the two cases. In the former case, their function is primarily classificatory;whereas in the latter case, their function is primarily explanatory. Finally,I suggest that the epistemological problems generated by the evolution of scientificconcepts are more severe in the latter case than in the former.

Το παρόν άρθρο αναφέρεται στη διαχείριση επίμαχων ζητημάτων στο σχολείο καιεστιάζει στη θρησκευτική ετερότητα στον σύγχρονο κόσμο, και ιδιαίτερα στην ευρωπαϊκή κοινωνία, και κυρίως στην καταλλαγή μεταξύ των ανθρώπων που ακολουθούν διαφορετικές θρησκείες ή καμία θρησκεία. Με βάση τις βασικές αρχές της βιωματικής μάθησης, αναπτύσσεται θεωρητικά και πρακτικά ένα εργαστήριο εκπαίδευσης εκπαιδευτικών που συνδυάζει το θέατρο και τη διδασκαλία-διαχείριση επίμαχων ζητημάτων. Η εκπαίδευση στοχεύει στον αναστοχασμό των συμμετεχόντων, ώστε να κατανοούν την ανάγκη του θρησκευτικού γραμματισμού αξιοποιώντας τη θεατροπαιδαγωγική ως μέθοδο, που βοηθά στην έρευνα-δράση για ένα σχολείο ανθρώπινο που εκπαιδεύει ανθρώπους και πολίτες.

Jugate portraits on coinage and jewellery of the Hellenistic periodJugate representations of divine or royal couples appear often on coins and sealsin Graeco-Roman art. Putting an emphasis on dynastic integrity and continuity –derived from the model of their divine predecessors– the kings of the Hellenisticperiod (and particularly so the Ptolemies of Egypt) are shown next to their consortsas guarantors for the production of lawful heirs. As their divine model –devised,evidently, by themselves in anticipation of the symbolism they wished to put forward–they most commonly used Sarapis and Isis, a couple known to us from coins, sealsand other such portable media, as well as a remote counterpart in the face of Zeusand Dione, a divine couple known from the coins and seals of Epirus.The emblematic value of coins or jewels employed as seals, such as engravedgemstones and signet rings, stresses the symbolism of the jugate scheme, renderingthe image into an agent for Hellenistic kingship ideology. The type’s adoption byRoman Imperial couples strengthened its ideological content and guaranteed itssurvival well into modernity.

Πρόκειται για το κείμενο της ανακοίνωσης στο Ε΄ Συνέδριο της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Γενικής και Συγκριτικής Γραμματολογίας με τίτλο «Η ποιητική του τοπίου», που διοργανώθηκε σε συνεργασία με το Ινστιτούτο Νεοελληνικών Ερευνών του Εθνικού Ιδρύματος Ερευνών και πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Ερευνών από τις 19 έως τις 22 Ιανουαρίου 2012. Η ανακοίνωση διερευνά τη λειτουργία του μοτίβου του ορυχείου στο πρώτο διήγημα του Βιζυηνού Αι συνέπειαι της παλαιάς ιστορίας (1884). Εντοπίζεται η προέλευσή του από τις αφηγήσεις του γερμανικού ρομαντισμού, όπου το τοπίο, φυσικό ή αρχιτεκτονικό, αντικατοπτρίζει τα εντός της ψυχής συμβαίνοντα, ενώ ο υπό την γη αόρατος χώρος αποκτά ιδιαίτερη σημασία. Το ορυχείο, η κατάβαση στα έγκατα της γης, γίνεται στον ρομαντισμό ένα προσφιλές μοτίβο, όπου η κατάδυση ισοδυναμεί με προσέγγιση ενός μυστηριώδους και μαγικού ακόμα χώρου, παραπέμποντας στον ψυχισμό του ήρωα και οδηγώντας στην αποκάλυψη του μυστικού της καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας.  Μεταξύ των πολλών σχετικών αφηγήσεων και παραλλαγών του μοτίβου στον γερμανικό ρομαντισμό και νεορομαντισμό ιδιαίτερη θέση κατέχουν οι ιστορίες που πλέκονται γύρω από ένα ασυνήθιστο πραγματικό περιστατικό που συνέβη το 1670 στο ορυχείο του Φαλούν, στη Σουηδία. Στην ανακοίνωση αναδεικνύεται η διακειμενική σχέση του κειμένου του Βιζυηνού κυρίως με μία από τις αφηγήσεις αυτές, με την σύντομη αφήγηση του Γιόχαν Πέτερ Χέμπελ Ανέλπιστη αντάμωση [Unverhofftes Wiedersehen, 1810] συγκεκριμένα. Η ανάδειξη αυτής της σχέσης συμβάλλει στην ερμηνεία του διηγήματος του Βιζυηνού, αφού βοηθά στον εντοπισμό και στην κατανόηση της βασικής αντινομίας που διέπει και οργανώνει το αφήγημα. Στον Χέμπελ διαπιστώνουμε ότι υπάρχει μια μυθικών διαστάσεων αντινομία, το σχήμα «ζωή → θάνατος» αντιστρέφεται και γίνεται «θάνατος → ζωή», εφόσον υποδηλώνεται, από τη σκοπιά της γυναικείας μορφής του αφηγήματος, η εσχατολογική υπόσχεση του χριστιανισμού. Με παρόμοιο τρόπο ο αφηγητής του διηγήματος του Βιζυηνού αναστοχάζεται, ως φοιτητής της νέας  επιστήμης της ψυχολογίας στα τέλη του 19ου αιώνα, πάνω στις υπό διερεύνηση ιδιότητες της ψυχής του ανθρώπου, που διαφεύγουν της δυνατότητας περιγραφής και αποσαφήνισης με τα μέσα του επιστημονικού λόγου. Η σχέση «σώματος/ύλης» και «ψυχής» θεματοποιείται τόσο στο επίπεδο του ανώνυμου αφηγητή, όσο και στο επίπεδο των μορφών της Κλάρας και του Πασχάλη. Η αρχική επιδίωξη του επιστημονικού λόγου του αφηγητή να καταλήξει σε ασφαλές συμπέρασμα σχετικά με την κυριαρχία της «ύλης» πάνω στην «ψυχή» ανατρέπεται, αφού στο τέλος αναγνωρίζει την κυριαρχία της «ψυχής» πάνω στην «ύλη» μέσω της δυνατότητας υπέρβασης που διαθέτει ο άνθρωπος. Η ανακοίνωση στοχεύει παράλληλα στην ανάδειξη της λειτουργίας των λοιπών διακειμενικών αναφορών του διηγήματος σε λογοτεχνικά κείμενα του Γιόχαν Βόλφγκανγκ φον Γκαίτε.  

RESUMEN: La novela El siglo de las luces de Alejo Carpentier es una obra en la que la historia juega un papel importante. En dicha obra el autor empieza de la Revolución Francesa y sus ideales de libertad y justicia social con el propósito de inspirar a los pueblos latinoamericanos que sufren bajo gobiernos opresivos-dictatoriales. En el presente estudio se trata un análisis profundo de la relación entre historia, memoria y literatura. Palabras clave: Literatura cubana, real maravilloso, novela histórica, revolución. ABSTRACT: History plays an important role in Alejo Carpentier’s novel El siglo de las luces. In this work the author presents the French Revolution and its ideals of freedom and social justice in order to inspire the Spanish American people suffering under oppressive dictatorial governments. In the 1973 November 17 the (Greek) Polytechnic University students did revolt. Comparing to other students’ revolts across Europe and elsewhere this rebellion was delayed due to the military junta outburst in Greece in 1967 (which, apparently, restricted and restrained any political movements). Apart from the literature that either emphasizes on the political and ideological meanings of this uprising or on the negation of it, it seems interesting to search for its imprint in social attitude, given the 2010-2018 Greek multi-crisis and the many riots outburst, whereas the 62% "NO" in the "2015 bailout referendum"can be considered as a milestone of this social attitudeand of the crisis as well. This presentation aims to search the connections between (a) the "myth" behind the youth (and people’s) resistance, which can be briefly mentioned as "resistance culture" along with the educational myths that cultivated this culture, and (b) the "anti-...(anything)" movement and the following riots which devastated institutions and cities across Greece, particularly during this period of multi-crisis.An historiographical and genealogical method will be used in order to reveal the roots of the societal attitude towards this "resistance culture". The Press and other Media as well as the school history curriculum could be considered as the historical data to proof these connections. The highly ideologized perception of the past (which includes the "1973 November 17 th " students’ uprising) on behalf of certain political parties (or groups) and the social legitimization of this perception through school is expected to be emerged as a conclusion.

This paper aims to analyze the structure and quality of prospective mathematics teachers’ (PMTs)’ argumentation when identifying and interpreting critical incidents from their initial field experiences. We use Toulmin’s model and recent elaborations of it to analyze the discussions that took place at the university where PMTs reflected on their recent classroom experiences. Our aim is to identify the structure of the argumentation and characterize the emerging warrants, backings, and rebuttals. Results indicate different argumentation structures and types of warrants, backings, and rebuttals in the process of PMTs’ interpretations of students’ mathematical activity. We discuss these findings from the perspective of noticing to identify shifts at the level of PMTs’ interpretations.

This work describes the derivation of the tectonic stress from the inversion of focal mechanisms of double-couple earthquakes. The presented material is based, in large part, on several review papers, lecture notes and practices on the matter, developed by the authors during the last years.

In this chapter, we will provide a review of the major aspects related to teacherawareness, with special reference to non- native teachers’ awareness of English as an International Lingua Franca (ELF), and will then provide an account of a hands on practical approach aimed at introducing teachers in Expanding Circle countries (Kachru, 1985 ) to the challenges and implications of teaching a global language, thus transforming them into ELF- aware teachers who will be ready to convey such awareness among their students. We will focus on non- native English- speaking teachers’ (NNESTs’) awareness of the global properties of ELF. In order to support our suggestions in the light of a new model of transformative teacher education (Sifakis, 2007, 2014), we provide evidence from an on- going project on ELF- aware language teaching, and we report NNESTs’ perspectives on what they consider to be an ELF- aware lesson, as well as teachers’ observations of how successful they were in raising their students’ awareness towards ELF (Bayyurt and Sifakis, 2015a , 2015b; Sifakis, 2014 ; Sifakis and Bayyurt, 2015).

The chapter focuses on the challenges and opportunities raised by the growing awareness of the role that English as a lingua franca (ELF) can play in Expanding Circle contexts, namely, contexts where English does not have a historical or statutory role of any kind. The context under review is Greece, where English is taught as a foreign language (EFL). I present an account of the English language teaching, learning and use situation in Greece and reflect on the impact ELF can have for domains like language instruction, materials design, selection and evaluation and teacher education. I argue that ELF research can inform EFL contexts in a number of ways: It can be used to empower non-native speakers of English by broadening their perspective of communicating on a global scale in the 21st century. It can also be used as a means of teacher development. The essential element that underpins this perspective is that, for Expanding Circle contexts like the Greek one, English is not a foreign language (in the way that other major languages like French and German are), but a language with which learners have some degree of familiarity.

This paper is concerned with the Greeks’ unfavorable perceptions of the ‘Turk’ among and suggests that they are part of a psychological barrier which constitutes one of the major factors underlining Greek-Turkish relations. It examines how these perceptions have been set by Greek historiography and complemented by popular to this day works of literature from a previous period. It maintains that despite the rapprochement between Greece and Turkey, they cannot be expected to sharply change because they are part of the deeply ingrained in the Greek psyche national schema. However, in the light of findings of empirical research, it also argues that the picture is more complicated because a less-stereotypical image of the Turk has been accepted by more Greeks than in the recent past.

Στην παρούσα μελέτη επιχειρείται μια ανίχνευση, με την οπτική της Ψυχολογίας, των πολλών και ποικίλων όψεων της μοναξιάς, αυτού του ουσιώδους βιώματος της ανθρώπινης ύπαρξης, στον ελληνικό πολιτισμό, με έμφαση στην παραδοσιακή ελληνική κοινωνία. Μετά τις εννοιολογικές αποσαφηνίσεις, παρουσιάζονται όψεις της επώδυνης και της ευεργετικής μοναξιάς, όπως αυτές εκδηλώνονταν στον ελληνικό λαϊκό βίο και διατυπώνονται σκέψεις σχετικά με τη σημασία της μοναξιάς για τη νεοελληνική αυτοσυνείδηση. In this essay, we attempt to trace the many faces of loneliness, which is an essential experience of human existence, in the Greek culture, especially in the traditional Greek society, from the viewpoint of Psychology. Following some conceptual clarifications and references to the Greek language, we describe facets of painful aloneness (i.e., loneliness) and beneficial aloneness (i.e., solitude), as exhibited in life within the traditional Greek context. Finally, some thoughts on the significance of loneliness for the neo-hellenic identity are expressed.

This paper uses rich ethnographic material deriving from fieldwork carried out by the author in Tarpon Springs, a small city in Florida boasting a significant Greek community with a background in sponge diving and the sponge trade. I look at the performance of the Epiphany ritual in this city, where about fifty Greek Orthodox American male adolescents aged 16-18 dive in the waters of Spring Bayou to retrieve the Cross cast by the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America every year on 6 January, in a reenactment of Christ’s Baptism in the Jordan. I analyse the ritual both historically and synchronically in order to show how it functions as a framework for the communal initiation of Greek Orthodox American adolescents into their roles as responsible members of their parishes and communities. When sponge diving was widely practised in Tarpon Springs, such adolescents used to dive for the Cross to secure good weather and calm seas for the sponge-boats. Today they continue to bring the blessing of the Church in symbolic terms to their community, which they do by diving for the Cross, by conducting a procession, in which the Cross is borne aloft, and by singing hymns in the Sponge Docks and in the Greek area of the city.

Ο εκπαιδευτικός, που αναστοχάζεται τα σχέδια του, την εφαρμογή τους και τα αποτελέσματά της στη μάθηση και τη ζωή των προσώπων της σχολικής κοινότητας, οδηγείται στην αναζήτηση τρόπων ολοκληρωμένης και αυτόνομης αυτό-εκπαίδευσης στην υπηρεσία της αυτό-ανάπτυξης και αυτό-κατανόησης με σκοπό την αλλαγή. Η λύση σε ένα υπάρχον σύστημα και σε ένα πολιτιστικά κατασκευασμένο πλαίσιο φαίνεται να είναι η σύζευξη έρευνας και δράσης. Η ανακοίνωση στηρίζεται στην εμπειρία έρευνας-δράσης σε γυμνάσιο των Αχαρνών, που διαρκεί από το 2012.

Egocentrism is a central concept in the developmental psychology literature with important implications for adaptation and mental health. Despite its negative moral connotation, it is not related to egoism. Genetic epistemologist Jean Piaget introduced egocentrism (or centration) and described it as a normal phenomenon during the course of human development. Egocentrism is defined as a heightened focus on one’s self and it takes several forms in ontogeny. During adolescence, egocentrism is regarded to be associated with pubertal changes and important developmental tasks, such as the acquisition of new mental capacities, the process of separation from parents, and the formation of individuality. Research has shown that egocentrism may be at the root of a wide variety of typical adolescent behaviors and disturbances. In this entry we will briefly describe the two main theoretical models for the interpretation of adolescent egocentrism, namely the cognitive model and the psychodynamic “New Look” model. References to research evidence concerning the two models will also be made. Finally, conclusions about current understanding of adolescent egocentrism will be drawn.

Aspect is more or less universally recognized as the defining TMA category of the Greek verbal system. There is a consensus on this in both the philological tradition and the linguistic literature on aspect. It is moreover almost universally accepted that diachronically the Greek verbal system has been extremely conservative, remaining practically unchanged down to the present day.This paper largely accepts the former assumption, but not the latter, which has been increasingly challenged in the last few years. It is argued here that, while there has been little change morphologically, the system has been altered in a fundamental way. More specifically, it takes up the analysis proposed in Moser (2008 and 2009), according to which the history of the Greek verb indicates that the system of three (and later two) stems shifts from the expression of Aktionsart (actionality/lexical aspect) to the expression of (grammatical) aspect, and develops it further, taking a fresh look at the data from a different point of view and in the light of recent studies.

El objeto del presente trabajo es comparar la disponibilidad léxica de un grupo de aprendientes griegos de español de nivel C1 con la disponibilidad léxica de estudiantes españoles para detectar las diferencias o las similitudes entre los hablantes extranjeros y nativos de español. Para ello, se han analizado diferentes aspectos cuantitativos y cualitativos de la disponibilidad léxica de los dos grupos en cuestión  siguiendo las pautas metodológicas en las que se basan los estudios de disponibilidad léxica. Se ha recogido léxico de tres campos semánticos  (comida y bebida, la casa, profesiones y oficios) y los datos se han analizado con el objetivo de encontrar el número de palabras producidas, el promedio de las palabras producidas por participante, el número de vocablos (palabras diferentes), el promedio de los vocablos producidos por participante, el índice de cohesión y las palabras más comunes de cada campo semántico.

Resumen: El presente trabajo se centra en la enseñanza del léxico del español como lengua extranjera. En concreto, se explican las razones por las cuales el tratamiento léxico debe formar parte de la enseñanza de ELE y debe ser programado, organizado y sistemático. Asimismo, se exponen diferentes perspectivas metodológicas de su presentación en el aula. Finalmente, se ofrecen algunas propuestas de tipo didáctico que pueden servir de apoyo y orientación a los docentes implicados en la enseñanza del léxico a aprendientes griegos de español.  

There is little morphological evidence for little v as a verbalizing head in the literature. Greek, however, exhibits systematic verbalizing morphology and provides us with a strong case study for a robust morphophonological manifestation of the verbalizing v head. Evidence comes from the second-conjugation verbs (e.g., aɣap-ó ‘I love’, ster-ó ‘I deprive’), which display certain distinct morphophonological properties: (a) they take a vocalic extension in certain forms (e.g., aɣáp-i-s-a ‘I loved’) and (b) they exhibit post-root stress, unlike other verb forms (e.g., miní-o ‘I sue’, pal-év-o ‘I fight’). Following Spyropoulos et al. (2015), we argue that both characteristics reflect the morphophonological effects of the exponence of a verbalizing head v by means of an empty vocalic element  V. Furthermore, we provide evidence that a set of verbalizers, almost exclusively identified with a number of derivational suffixes (e.g., -ev, -iz, -(i)az, -on, -ar and -en), are also exponents of this verbalizing v head which is distinct from Voice, is not correlated with agentivity, transitivity and inner aspect / Aktionsart, and, more importantly, do not follow the second conjugation pattern. We propose that the abstract vocalic slot and the verbal derivational suffixes compete for the same morphosyntactic position and that they are both exponents of the verbalizing head v. 

The aftermath of the Second World War is characterized by an intense intellectual activity that influences all academic fields: literature, art, philosophy…Greece, a small, devastated country, just emerging out of a long, bitter Civil War, contributes to that intellectual movement with whatever meager means possible. However, this intellectual progress is closely observed and followed by the majority of Greek scholars of the time. The Greek intelligentsia, submerged to a great extent in the French language and culture, is clearly affiliated with France which has, after all, been for centuries the hotbed of ideological currents that have drastically shaped the face of modern culture. Consequently, the lack of original creation on the part of Greece is successfully substituted by a great number of works translated from the French language. Amongst the great writers presented to the Greek readership Simone De Beauvoir holds a prominent position. De Beauvoir has enjoyed special recognition from the very start, not being overshadowed to the least by her equally brilliant partner Jean-Paul Sartre, who was one of the most eminent philosophers of his time. The current study intends, on a first level, to depict the various landmarks of the reception awaiting Simone De Beauvoir’s work in Greece. Moving on, our analysis will focus on her basic philosophic essay: The Second Sex. This work is of special interest since it has been repeatedly translated and published in Greece. It is surprising to observe that even this year a new edition of this particular book has come out. A detailed juxtaposition between the prototype and the various Greek translations will help us to observe any omissions, additions or even alterations. Bearing in mind certain vital criteria—the translators’ personalities, their target groups throughout time and the sociopolitical milieu these translations took place in—we will attempt to shed light to the underlying importance of this phenomenon. This is a research that, based on material drawn from the press, the publishing houses and the national archives, highlights the great influence this great thinker had on Greece’s ideological progress.La période qui suit la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale est marquée, dans lemonde occidental, par une intense fermentation intellectuelle qui touche tous les domaines de l’esprit : la littérature, l’art, la philosophie... La Grèce, petit pays qui sort ruiné d’une longue guerre civile de quatre ans, apporte une faible contribution à ce mouvement qu’elle suit, tout de même, avec un vif intérêt. L’intelligentsia grecque, formée pour la plupart dans la langue et la culture françaises, est particulièrement tournée vers la France, foyer, depuis des siècles, de courants idéologiques qui ont façonné la physionomie de la civilisation contemporaine. Aussi, le manque d’une création originale est-il compensé par un foisonnement d’oeuvres traduites du français. Parmi les grands auteurs présentés au public grec, Simone de Beauvoir tient une place éminente. Bien que compagne de Jean-Paul Sartre, l’un des plus célèbres esprits de son époque, cette femme de lettres jouit, de prime abord, d’une reconnaissance tout à fait remarquable. Cette étude fait état de la réception de l’oeuvre de Simone de Beauvoir en Grèce et notamment de l’accueil réservé au Deuxième Sexe entre 1949 – année de la parution de la première traduction de cet ouvrage - et 2009 – année de la publication de sa dernière version grecque. Dans une première partie l’analyse porte sur la diffusion de l’oeuvre de la philosophe et distingue deux temps forts : 1949, fin de la guerre civile sanglante amorcée au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et 1974, année de la restauration de la République en Grèce après la chute de la junte. Ces moments de rupture avec le passé coïncident avec la parution d'une nouvelle traduction du Deuxième Sexe ce qui est significatif de sa modernité. La deuxième partie de ce travail est consacrée à l’examen des diverses traductions de cette oeuvre importante de Simone de Beauvoir : celle, fragmentaire, de 1949, presque simultanée à la publication du premier volume en France ; celle de 1958, raccourcie dans un effort de rendre l’oeuvre plus accessible au public grec ; celle de 1979, intégrale mais prenant appui non pas sur le texte français mais sur la traduction américaine ; celle, enfin, de 2009, qui est d’ailleurs la plus fidèle à l’original. Inséparables des questions de réception, ces textes accompagnés de notes et d’avant-propos font surgir des questionnements sur la complexité des transferts culturels. En somme, à l’appui de documents puisés dans la presse, chez les éditeurs, aux Archives Nationales, la recherche révèle l’impact important de la pensée beauvoirienne sur l’évolution des idées dans notre pays. H περίοδος που ακολουθεί το τέλος του Δευτέρου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου σημαδεύεται, στον δυτικό κόσμο από μια έντονη πνευματική ζύμωση που αγγίζει όλους τους τομείς του πνεύματος: τη λογοτεχνία, την τέχνη, τη φιλοσοφία… Η Ελλάδα, μικρή χώρα, που εξέρχεται ρημαγμένη από ένα μακροχρόνιο εμφύλιο πόλεμο, συνεισφέρει με τα πενιχρά της μέσα σε αυτή την κίνηση την οποία ωστόσο παρακολουθεί με ζωηρό ενδιαφέρον. Η ελληνική ιντελλιγγέντσια, διαποτισμένη σε μεγάλο βαθμό με τη γαλλική γλώσσα και κουλτούρα, είναι στραμμένη προς τη Γαλλία, η οποία από εδώ και αιώνες υπήρξε η εστία ιδεολογικών ρευμάτων που διαμόρφωσαν τη φυσιογνωμία του σύγχρονου πολιτισμού. Επομένως, η έλλειψη πρωτότυπης δημιουργίας αντισταθμίζεται από ένα μεγάλο αριθμό έργων μεταφρασμένων από τα γαλλικά.  Ανάμεσα στους μεγάλους συγγραφείς που παρουσιάζονται στο ελληνικό κοινό, η Σιμόν ντε Μπωβουάρ κατέχει μια εξέχουσα θέση.  Αν και σύντροφος του Ζαν-Πωλ Σαρτρ, ενός από τα επιφανέστερα πνεύματα της εποχής, η γυναίκα αυτή των γραμμάτων απολαμβάνει ευθύς εξαρχής μία ιδιαίτερη αναγνώριση. Η παρούσα μελέτη προτίθεται, σε ένα πρώτο επίπεδο, να σκιαγραφήσει τους διάφορους σταθμούς της πρόσληψης του έργου της Σιμόν ντε Μπωβουάρ στην Ελλάδα. Στη συνέχεια, η ανάλυσή μας θα επικεντρωθεί στο βασικό φιλοσοφικό της δοκίμιο: Το Δεύτερο φύλο. Το έργο αυτό παρουσιάζει εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον διότι γνώρισε επανειλημμένες μεταφράσεις και εκδόσεις στην Ελλάδα. Ακόμα και εφέτος κυκλοφόρησε μια νέα μετάφραση. Μία λεπτομερής αντιπαραβολή ανάμεσα στο πρωτότυπο και στις διάφορες ελληνικές μεταφράσεις θα μας οδηγήσει στο να εντοπίσουμε τις παραλείψεις, τις προσθήκες και τις αλλοιώσεις.  Ξεκινώντας από ορισμένα κριτήρια – την προσωπικότητα των μεταφραστών και μεταφραστριών, το εκάστοτε κοινό τους και τις ιστορικές στιγμές όπου πραγματοποιήθηκαν αυτές οι μεταφράσεις – θα προσπαθήσουμε να φωτίσουμε την βαθύτερη σημασία αυτού του φαινομένου. Πρόκειται για μία έρευνα η οποία, στηριζόμενη σε υλικό που έχει αντληθεί από τον τύπο, από τους εκδοτικούς οίκους από τα εθνικά αρχεία, αναδεικνύει την μεγάλη επιρροή της στοχάστριας αυτής στην κίνηση των ιδεών στη χώρα.

This chapter describes how novice and experienced mathematics teachers integrate authentic workplace contexts into mathematics teaching. This goal is inspired by the European MaSciL project and introduced to the teachers in the context of a masters programme in mathematics education. Under an Activity Theory perspective, we use the notions of activity system and boundary crossing to study the process of teachers’ professional learning. In particular, we analyse teachers’ boundary crossings between two activity systems: mathematics teaching and workplace. Results indicate that collaborative task design and reflection made teachers combine elements from the workplace into mathematics teaching. Different ways of linking reality and mathematics teaching were identified in the modelling process in which the students were asked to be engaged.

Malgré quarante années d’une recherche féconde autant que chaotique, l’histoire de la participation féminine à la Résistance française vue d’en bas recèle encore ses zones d’ombre. Le présent travail se propose d’en apporter un éclairage particulier sur un aspect spécifique mais non moins important pour appréhender la diversité de la contribution de femmes en guerre : sa composante universitaire. Intimement liée aux notions de devoir et de transgression, d’héroïsme et de modestie, de transmission et de mémoire, la mobilisation des professeures de l’enseignement secondaire contre l’ennemi, abordée ici par le biais des récits chargés de véhiculer son souvenir, est notamment intéressante par les paradoxes qu’elle engendre et la dimension supplémentaire qu’elle comporte : la « résistance de l’esprit ». L’ambition du propos est multiple : montrer, tout d’abord, à travers l’approche genrée d’un cas particulier et la spécificité d’une situation professionnelle, la complexité de l’histoire de l’engagement et du sacrifice féminin en temps de guerre et, par là même, suggérer une clé de lecture complémentaire du phénomène résistant ; ouvrir, ensuite, un questionnement sur les enjeux de mémoire au moyen d’un fonds mémoriel enrichi et diversifié au fil des ans ; dégager, enfin, des figures héroïques toutes auréolées du sacrifice accompli et tenter de saisir la complexité identitaire des professeures patriotes. L’histoire de la mémoire rejoint ainsi dans ce propos celle des représentations.

Through the eyes of western women of the 18th and 19th centuries, this paper discusses the Ottoman slavery institution and 'the real position of women in the religious system of Islam' (Garnett 1895: 61).  Focusing on primary sources, first-hand accounts of European women travel writers, authors and journalists in Ottoman territories and principally in Asia Minor (Turkey), this article confirms that all the harem inmates were women of different nations and races: Islamized slaves, liberated slaves and descendants of slaves. Western women, in their intimate contacts with the harem inmates—free and slave—discuss the Ottoman dynasty’s reproductive politics, forced abortion, marriage, divorce, veiling or Muslim women’s attire,  slave rights and social mobility, including requirements for slave liberation. This researcher concludes that the Multiethnic-Multiracial Harem Slavery Institution was the collective segregation, confinement or enslavement of the female gender in one specific space (household/harem), as one collective identity since all the women—slave and free—shared or legally belonged to one man or master: sultan, grand vizier, vizier, pacha, etc. Keywords: slavery, sexual slavery, social mobility, polygyny, eunuchs, children’s harem, seraglio, marriage, divorce, veiling  

This study investigates developmental patterns in the ability of Greek foreign language learners to make offers. Drawing data from role-plays and retrospective verbal reports it attempts to explore the initial offer strategies and the degree of insistence that learners of three different proficiency levels (lower intermediate, intermediate and advanced) employ when performing offers in different social situations. The results suggest that, although there is a great deal of grammatical and pragma-linguistic development in regard to both initial offer strategies and syntactic modification devices, this does not guarantee concomitant levels of socio-pragmatic development (cf. Bardovi-Harlig 1999).

Abstract Spectroscopic methods such as absorption spectroscopy in ultraviolet (UV), visible (Vis), near-infrared (NIR), or mid-infrared (MIR) or their combinations have been used for nondestructive, fast, real-time, off/online monitoring of olive oil quality parameters, and for detection and determination of olive oil adulterants as well as geographic origin. These methods have also been used in the industrial sector to analyze the quality of olive fruit with respect to oil content, moisture, color, and fatty acid content. This chapter considers several applications of UV-Vis-NIR or/and MIR spectroscopy in off/on-line monitoring of olive oil functional compounds and oxidation status in combination with appropriately used spectral preprocessing and data analysis (chemometrics). The UV-Vis-NIR and MIR spectroscopic methods have the advantages of minimal or no sample preparation and the ability of a very simple and rapid simultaneous analysis of several constituents. They constitute one of the most promising and useful on/in-line detection methods for olive oil quality control.

Developments in ELF research in the past several years have raised implications for many different domains surrounding the use, teaching and learning of English involving non-native speakers. What this research has offered is a fresh way of looking at English-medium communications that include non-native users, raising serious implications about the nature of the very notion of ‘English’ (Jenkins et al., 2011; Seidlhofer, 2011, p. 105; Widdowson, 1997). In this chapter, we focus on implications of ELF research for teacher education. As ELT situations around the world abound, we put forward the notion of ELF-aware teacher learning and development (our term) and suggest ways in which it can impact teacher development through appropriate teacher education. To that end, we present a framework for teacher education programmes aiming to raise teachers’ ELF awareness.

Earthquake hazards comprise any natural phenomenon associated withearthquakes. Earthquakes are known as the shaking of the Earth’s surface,producing significant impacts on both physical and urban environments withsevere socioeconomic aspects. Most of the earthquakes are generated at theboundaries of the lithospheric plates, which float over the mantle’s asthenosphere, converging or diverging. Friction caused by the plates interaction builds up stresses that, when released, produce ground faulting that radiates through the lithosphere producing complex seismic waves, which, in turn, can affect the near built environment. Although earthquakes mainly control the morphology of the Earth’s surface,they would unlikely be considered of major significance in the absence of theireffects on the anthropogenic environment, primary and secondary. Primaryearthquake hazards at a site regard the ground shaking due to the passage of theseismic waves (dynamic deformation) and/or the ground displacements (staticdeformation) in the vicinity of the causative fault. Secondary earthquake hazardsare the after-earthquake effects caused by the primary ones and may often bemore catastrophic. Such hazards are ground failures, fire, landslides, rock andsnow avalanches, liquefaction, flooding, tsunamis and seiche that have beenfrequently reported to follow the occurrence of strong earthquakes. The measureof earthquake hazards at a site mainly depends on the size and type of the seismic rupture, its distance from the site and the geological structure between the source and the site’s surface that may impact the seismic energy. Given that earthquake prediction is still infeasible, the major task in seismologicalresearch is the understanding of earthquake phenomena and their consequences on  the natural and anthropogenic environment, with the purpose of mitigating themby providing valid and timely information, to be used for effective earthquakeplanning and decision-making processes. Primary and secondary effects arerelated with vulnerability, which is defined as a set of prevailing or consequentialphysical and sociopolitical conditions that affect a community’s ability to mitigate,prepare for, or respond to an earthquake hazard (ADCP, 2003). Earthquakehazards, structural vulnerabilities and exposed values, when combined, yield aregion’s exposure to seismic risk.

Γίνεται σήμερα λόγος για την αλλαγή στο μάθημα των Θρησκευτικών στην Ελλάδα. Η συζήτηση για το θέμα έχει ξεκινήσει από τη δεκαετία του 1990 και η αλλαγή έχει γίνει από τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2016 με τη δημοσίευση σε ΦΕΚ των Προγράμματα Σπουδών Δημοτικού-Γυμνασίου και Λυκείου(στο εξής ΠΣ) και με την εφαρμογή τους ή μη εφαρμογή τους τησχολική αυτή χρονιά. Γνωρίζουμε, βέβαια όλοι και όλες ότι με την προσωπική αντίδραση του Αρχιεπισκόπου της Εκκλησίας της Ελλάδας κ. Ιερώνυμου (Κουκουνάρας Λιάγκης, 2016), της οποίας το χρονικό αδυνατούμε εδώ να αναλύσουμε, διενεργήθηκε διάλογος μεταξύ Πολιτείας και Εκκλησίας τους προηγούμενους μήνες και μετά από αναθεώρηση, θα προκύψουν νέες δημοσιεύσεις σε ΦΕΚ των δύο ΠΣ και θα ισχύσουν τη σχολική χρονιά 2017-18. Παράλληλα γνωρίζουμε ότι ομάδες εμπειρογνωμόνωντων δύο ΠΣ και εκπαιδευτικών της τάξης από την Πρωτοβάθμια και Δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση εργάσθηκαν αμισθί και συνέθεσαν Φακέλους Μαθητή με διδακτικό υλικό, για κάθε τάξη Δημοτικού, Γυμνασίου και Λυκείου, σύμφωνα με τις παιδαγωγικές και διδακτικές αρχές των νέων ΠΣ και αυτοί θα δοθούν στους μαθητές και μαθήτριες τη νέα σχολική χρονιά.Τέλος, από τον διάλογο Πολιτείας και Εκκλησίας προέκυψε ρητή διαβεβαίωση της Πολιτείας ότι με την αλλαγή των ΠΣ υφίσταται το εκπαιδευτικό, παιδαγωγικό και πολιτικό περιβάλλον όχι μόνο για τη διατήρηση της υποχρεωτικότητας του μαθήματος, αλλά και για τη συμπερίληψή του στα βασικά και υποχρεωτικά μαθήματα του νέου Λυκείου, που θα ισχύσει τα επόμενα χρόνια.

Resumen: En la novela Aluvión de fuego de Óscar Cerruto se tocan varios aspectos de la sociedad boliviana relacionados con la guerra del Chaco. Se realiza una crítica aguda del sistema político que fue la causa de una guerra absurda y de las injusticias que sufren las capas más desfavorecidas de la población boliviana. El entorno físico juega un papel importante, ya que, aparte de ser el casus belli de la guerra, define la vida y la mentalidad de los personajes, especialmente de los indígenas y los mineros. A través del recorrido del joven protagonista, un rico burgués, por el vasto territorio boliviano se revela una sociedad en crisis debida a la falta de comunicación que caracteriza la clase dominante y los indios. Cerruto cuestiona la situación política y social, mientras que expresa la necesidad de la formación de una conciencia nacional en el pueblo boliviano. Abstract: The Oscar Cerruto´s novel, Aluvión de fuego, presents various aspects of the Bolivian society related to the Chaco War; it condemns the political situation, which is responsible for the absurd war and the injustices the lower social classes suffered. The natural environment setting of the novel is of special importance, because it is the casus belli and defines the life and the whole mentality of the characters, especially of the Indians and miners. The young protagonist´s tour of the vast Bolivian territory, who is a rich bourgeois, shows a society in crisis because of the lack of communication between the ruling class and the Indians. Cerruto questions the political and social situation and expresses the need to form a national consciousness in the Bolivian people.

In this paper, we revisit the discovery of argon by Lord Rayleigh and William Ramsay. We argue that to understand historically how argon was detected, conceptualized, and accommodated into chemical knowledge we need to take into account the philosophical insight that scientific discovery is often an extended process. One of argon’s most intriguing properties was that it did not react with other elements. Reactivity, however, had been a constitutive property of elements. Thus, the discovery of argon could not have been accepted by chemists without a reconceptualization of ‘element’. Furthermore, there were difficulties with the accommodation of argon in the Periodic table, because argon appeared to undermine the conception of matter that underlay the Periodic table. The discovery of argon was complete only after those conceptual difficulties had been removed. This is why it has to be understood as an extended process, rather than as an event. Furthermore, we will suggest that some of the factors that complicated the discovery of argon were related to the legitimization of physical techniques of investigation in chemistry and the emergence of physical chemistry.

The Voices of Six Inspirational Greek Women in Sport: What inspired them to take that leap; the Obstacles they faced; how they moved forward and Tips for Success.  Many inspirational and outstanding women have made a difference in the lives of girls and women in sport, physical education (PE) and physical activity in Greece, despite their invisibility in the mainstream media, the life stories of which would need volumes. They succeeded in making a difference while respecting and celebrating diversity with regard to gender, ethnicity, culture, disability, age and sexual orientation. Beginning with a brief discussion on the underrepresentation of women’s sports and the female athlete in the Greek media, this chapter shares the contributions of some inspiring and motivating Greek women in sport whose achievements have been excluded from the country’s mainstream media. It is through six in-depth interviews and follow-up meetings that we learn how these pioneers influenced the lives of sporting girls and women by daring to disregard social barriers and spread awareness. RESUMEN: Óscar Cerruto, en su novela Aluvión de fuego revela aspectos históricos y sociales de su país relacionados con la guerra de Chaco. Mediante un acercamiento histórico-cultural, se estudia el conflicto entre los representantes del poder y la población india y su impacto en la formación de la identidad boliviana. El objeto del presente trabajo es examinar si el nivel lingüístico en lengua extranjera afecta la disponibilidad léxica de aprendientes griegos de español. Para ello, se han analizado diferentes aspectos cuantitativos y cualitativos de la disponibilidad léxica de dos grupos de aprendientes griegos que tienen un nivel lingüístico diferente (B1 y C1) en español siguiendo las pautas metodológicas en las que se basan los estudios de disponibilidad léxica. Se ha recogido léxico de tres campos semánticos  (comida y bebida, la casa, profesiones y oficios) y los datos se han analizado con el objetivo de encontrar el número de palabras producidas, el promedio de las palabras producidas por participante, el número de vocablos (palabras diferentes), el promedio de los vocablos producidos por participante, el índice de cohesión y las palabras más comunes de cada campo semántico. Los resultados del estudio han indicado que el nivel lingüístico en lengua extranjera afecta la disponibilidad léxica de los dos grupos de aprendientes griegos de español en todos los campos semánticos analizados. La explicación se basa en el desarrollo y la organización del lexicón mental en lengua extranjera.

The aim of this paper is to show that the knowledge of the history of Greek after the New Testament and the knowledge of its outcome, i.e. Modern Greek, can provide the tools for a better understanding of some of the linguistic problems presented by New Testament Greek. The testing ground for this claim will be aspect and its relationship to Aktionsart and tense. The paper starts with a brief overview of the Modern Greek verbal system in comparison to the Classical Greek verb, continues with a brief discussion of a theoretical approach to tense and aspect and its application to Modern Greek, and proceeds retrospectively, examining the situation in Early, Classical and New Testament Greek in the light of the Modern Greek data .

«Έγραψα μόνη μου την Εφημερίδα μου από την πρώτη ως την όγδοην σελίδα. Φυσικά υπό διάφορα ψευδώνυμα. Δεν είχα ούτε μία συνεργάτιδα. Είχα φέρει ένα Ιταλικόν ασήμαντον περιοδικό, καθώς και το Γαλλικόν του Léon Richer των Γυναικείων Δικαιωμάτων. Από αυτό είχα μεταφράσει μίαν μελέτη δια μίαν δημοσιογράφον Αμερικανίδα. […] Είναι 6 Μαρτίου του 1887. Το φύλλον είναι έτοιμον.»  Αν και η ιδρύτρια της Εφημερίδος των Κυριών - λαμβάνοντας υπόψη της τον εθνικιστικό λόγο της εποχής της - είχε επισταμένως φροντίσει, μέσα από κείμενα και δημόσιες παρεμβάσεις, να τονίσει και να αποδείξει την «ελληνικότητα» και την εθνική αποστολή του αγώνα της υπέρ των δικαιωμάτων των γυναικών προτείνοντας μια εναλλακτική νομιμοποιητική αφήγηση καθαρή από όποιες επείσακτες συνδηλώσεις, η μαρτυρία της αυτή γραμμένη στα 1915 είναι δηλωτική του ρόλου που έπαιξαν τα δυτικά πρότυπα της γυναικείας αμφισβήτησης τόσο στη συγκρότηση μιας φεμινιστικής συνείδησης στην Ελλάδα όσο και στην οργάνωση της εγχώριας συλλογικής γυναικείας κίνησης. Την αμφίθυμη και εν πολλοίς "αποσιωπημένη" αυτή σχέση του ελληνικού και του δυτικού φεμινιστικού κινήματος κατά τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες του 19ου αιώνα φιλοδοξεί να αναδείξει η παρούσα ανακοίνωση. Με επίκεντρο τον διάλογο που αναπτύσσεται προνομιακά με τη γαλλική γυναικεία κίνηση - πιο οικεία λόγω και της έντονης επιρροής του γαλλικού πολιτισμού στον ελληνικό χώρο εκείνη την περίοδο -, επιχειρείται μια πρώτη καταγραφή των πρωτοβουλιών και ενεργειών της Καλλιρόης Παρρέν και των συνεργατριών της (συστηματική παρακολούθηση των ξένων γυναικείων επιτευγμάτων και κατακτήσεων, συνεπής παρουσία στις διεθνείς συναντήσεις, επαφές με τα μέλη παλαιών και νέων φεμινιστικών δικτύων) με στόχο την ένταξη τους σε μια ευρύτερη οργάνωση, μια παγκόσμια «γυναικεία αδελφότητα» στο πλαίσιο της οποίας όμως η ελληνική συμμετοχή, σε ρόλο διαμεσολάβησης μεταξύ Δύσης και Ανατολής, φεμινισμού και ελληνισμού, φιλοδοξεί να διατηρήσει την ιδιαιτερότητά της.

Τα επιτραπέζια παιχνίδια μπορούν να αποκτήσουν εκπαιδευτικό χαρακτήρα στο πλαίσιο των μαθημάτων του σχολείου, με σημαντικά μαθησιακά αποτελέσματα. Κατά βάση συνεργάζονται σε ομάδες μαθητές με διαφορετικό επίπεδο γνώσεων, διαφορετικά κίνητρα και ικανότητες, διαφορετικό πολιτισμικό κεφάλαιο και οικονομικοκοινωνικό υπόβαθρο, για να κατανοήσουν και να μάθουν μέσω της επικοινωνίας, που αναπτύσσεται στο πλαίσιο ενός παιχνιδιού. Στην έρευνα που παρουσιάζεται στο παρόν μελετάται η διαδικασία του παιχνιδιού στην τάξη, η λειτουργία των ομάδων, η επικοινωνία των μελών τους, καθώς και η επίτευξη των προσδοκώμενων αποτελεσμάτων του μαθήματος που διδάσκεται μέσω του παιχνιδιού. Έγινε προσαρμογή ενός επιτραπέζιου παιχνιδιού (φιδάκι) στο εκπαιδευτικό περιβάλλον της Θρησκευτικής Εκπαίδευσης (μάθημα Θρησκευτικών) στο Γυμνάσιο με σκοπό την κατανόηση και μάθηση (γνώσεις και δεξιότητες). Μελετήθηκε η εφαρμογή του σε τμήμα της Β ́, στο 1ο Γυμνάσιο Αχαρνών, τη σχολική χρονιά 2013-14 μέσω παρατήρησης, ημερολογίων, ερωτηματολογίων και κριτηρίων αξιολόγησης. Η ανάλυση των αποτελεσμάτων, αφήνει πολλά περιθώρια να συμπεράνει κανείς την υψηλή παιδαγωγική-μετασχηματιστική αξία του επιτραπέζιου παιχνιδιού στη διδασκαλία.

Στο άρθρο αυτό γίνεται πρώτα λόγος για τη Θρησκευτική Εκπαίδευση στον ευρωπαϊκό χώρο, με ταυτόχρονες αναφορές στις διεθνείς συμβάσεις και συστάσεις του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης. Παράλληλα καταγράφεται και το ελληνικό νομοθετικό πλαίσιο, που διέπει τα θέματα της παροχής ΘΕ, της ανάπτυξης της θρησκευτικής συνείδησης σε σχέση με τη θρησκευτική ελευθερία, καθώς και το επίκαιρο ζήτημα των απαλλαγών από το μάθημα. Καταγράφονται, ακόμα, τα επιχειρήματα που σχετίζονται με την υποχρεωτική ή μη παρουσία της ΘΕ στον δημόσιο χώρο και διερευνάται το θέμα της αναγκαιότητάς της από παιδαγωγικής, κοινωνικής και πολιτισμικής πλευράς. Γίνεται, τέλος, αναφορά στον ιδιαίτερο χαρακτήρα (επιστημονικό –παιδαγωγικό) που έχουν τα νέα Προγράμματα Σπουδών της ΘΕ (2011, 2014, 2015), τα οποία φαίνεται να αποτελούν πρόταση που μπορεί να οδηγήσει, με τις λιγότερες κατά το δυνατό αντιδράσεις ή ασυμφωνίες, σε ένα ασφαλές μέλλον για την υποχρεωτική ΘΕ στην Ελλάδα με παιδαγωγικούς όρους.
